I don’t really vibe with this pup anymore so I am adopting him back out!

To enter to win this pup, write or draw how they arrived at your kennel (were they happy, sad, scared, etc.) No min or max for this.

Will end in 2 weeks on the 15th.

Name: WH Clouded Night Sky // “Truce”
Gender: DMAB
Name Meaning (optional): His grey merle patches against his black base color reminds me of how clouds look at night. And then I thought of how the Warriors universe uses clouds/lack of clouds to determine if there’s a truce for the Gathering!
Prompt: The truck rolled to a gentle halt, gravel crunching delicately beneath the tires. A door opened and closed, and then it was footsteps shifting the gravel. Another door was swung open, beaming light into the shaded backseat of the vehicle, where a lanky black and tan dog stood politely for the stranger to attach a lead to their collar.

Now the pair was walking towards a large building - some sort of upscaled version of a barn. As they entered, the young canine heard the barks of many dogs. Food, friend, play, hungry, excited, bark, bark, bark! For the first time since the beginning of his journey to this place, he pinned his ears back against his skull and lapped at his own nose. It wasn’t loud, per say, but the sheer number of unique voices gave him an anxiety-fueled vision of a wave of angry, charging dogs with gleaming yellowed teeth. “Stranger, stranger, stranger!” They seemed to snap. The collie suddenly felt very overwhelmed and more alone than ever.

“Stranger.”

He nearly jumped out of his skin at the sudden voice, though it spoke softly. Spinning around, hackles raised in fright, he turned to face the speaker. She peered at him with misty silver eyes, seeming to emerge from the shadows to stand just a few feet from him. Her coat was smooth, dappled in greys and warm browns. She was striking, he thought, even in his waning fear. It was the gentleness in her strange, stormy eyes that convinced his hackles to finally lower, and his guard dropped significantly.

“Lady,” he dipped his nose to her in polite greeting. She smiled faintly, amused by his manners.

“Gentleman,” she said, barely keeping the amusement from her voice, “Are you alright?”

“Ah, I… yes, ma’am. Simply a moment of nerves.” He mumbled sheepishly.

“Ah,” she echoed, “It’s a frightening thing to be a stranger in a new place. But, I assure you of your safety. They may be many in number, but the pack is a family above all. In time, you will see. There is no need to fear.”

“Are you its matriarch?” He queried.

“No,” she laughed kindly, “But I have been here for many seasons. My mother lived her entire life with this place as her home, just as I have. We have no leader, though the youngsters will tell you otherwise.” Her eyes rolled fondly. Suddenly, she jumped to her paws - the newcomer hadn’t even noticed that they had both sat down to chat - and shook out her coat, as if to shake off any remaining wariness. He found himself comforted by her presence, despite just meeting her.

“Well, the human won’t stand here all day and let us gossip! I would love to introduce you to the others, but you can back off for as long as you need if you feel overwhelmed.”

“I- thank you, ma’am.” He was, again, pleasantly surprised by the warmth in her voice. The barking of the other dogs sounded further away now, almost like faraway music.

“Mourn,” she corrected with a wink, ushering the newcomer with her tail. “What do they call you, stranger?”

“Truce.” He smiled fondly and fell into step beside her. “They call me Truce.”

(Summary: Truce is confident as he approaches his new home, but becomes anxious at the noise of the other dogs. Another collie, Mourn, talks him through it and assures him of his place in the pack she calls a family. Truce is rather taken with her and they introduce themselves to each other before heading towards the rest of the pack.)

Aaaa if anything sounds weird it’s because I just started writing and went with whatever came to mind! Got strangely attached to Truce while writing this… but good luck everyone!

Name: FFC's Nevermore // Raven
Gender: Male
Name Meaning (optional): The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe
Prompt:

Bored, Raven sighed through his nose and laid his chin on the edge of the window. He usually enjoyed trying to squeeze his muzzle out of the tiny open space his owners left for him, but he could swear they'd been driving for days now, and that idea had lost its novelty. Now, there was nothing left to do but watch as the trees sped by, which made him feel a little sick. Every once in a while, the car would stop and he'd jolt his head up, thinking they had finally gotten to their destination, only for his heart to sink a moment or two later when the car jumped back into motion. Gradually, he even ran out of thoughts - a new feeling for him. Though he wasn't particularly as energetic as other collies, his mind never stopped running. He watched as his eyelids fluttered and his mind drifted off into sleep.

BANG

He jolted awake, eyes wide and ears pricked - relieved to discover that the source of the sound was his owner stepping out of the car and closing the door. His tail involuntarily wagged as he sat up and panted at his door, eager to stretch his legs outside of the vehicle. As long as the car ride was, it felt like even more time had passed while he was waiting for his release. His owner was speaking to another human, and they were passing papers back and forth. He hoped they could hear him whining with excitement and would let him out soon.

Finally, he saw both of them walking back towards the car. As soon as he was able to, he hopped out onto the gravel, shook out his coat, and did a giant stretch. After his first priorities had been taken care of, it was time to get a nice big sniff on this new person. After a thorough inspection, he decided that they smelled alright, and was glad to be the recipient of some scratches behind the ears.

The new human grabbed his leash, and as a whole, the group traveled a small distance into a large building. Stepping in, he started a bit - he could smell other dogs, and hear them as they trotted up to edges of their kennel to get a good look at him. Slightly nervous, he lowered his head a bit, and his ears hugged the sides of his head. Not so excited now, he walked a little slower, and a little closer to the ground.

While the humans were involved in conversation, he got a better look at the other two dogs that were present. They were collies, just like him! From the looks of it, one male and one female. The girl seemed a bit anxious and excitable, but the male, while not unhappy, seemed more comfortable to just observe for now. Raven had never been a very social dog, but he figured as long as they let him have his personal space, he would be fine having these collies as friends.

He was so distracted that he hadn't realized that his owner had been coming and going in and out of this large building, and with every trip, they were bringing more things - his bed, his favorite toys, his treats - what was going on here? Some pressure on his leash told him they were walking again. Another kennel opened. He braced himself for a dog he hadn't noticed yet to run out and greet him, but thankfully, it seemed to be empty. His owner walked into the kennel space and started to set up his things. Not yet ready to settle down again, but thankful to have some of his comfort items, he nestled himself into his bed and watched the humans as they finished up their conversation. His owner knelt down beside him, stroked his back, and kissed his forehead. They seemed a little sad. He wagged his tail a bit in an attempt to comfort them, and grabbed one of his toys. "We don't have to be sad, we can have fun! Playing will make you happy!" He thought. He was confused as his owner stood up again, backed away, and swore to visit him soon. "Oh!" he thought. "I must be staying here for a while." His heart dropped.

The new human replaced his owner on the inside of the kennel. They knelt down, but kept their distance. This was a bit of a relief. There was a lot going on right now, and he wasn't too sure he wanted to put on a happy face anymore. He sank back a little more into the cushion of his familiar bed. Even if everything around was new and scary, he'd been sleeping in this same bed for as long as he could remember.

"Hi, Raven." The new person cooed. "I'm going to let you settle down for a bit, and I'll be back in a while to check up on you. Tomorrow, I'll show you around your new home."

Name: Kodiak "Koda"
Gender: Male
Name Meaning (optional): Named after my favorite brother bear character
Prompt: Koda arrived rather skiddish and uneasy. He wasn't sure what was going on, and he was a bit nervous to meet his new friends. After all, he had never met them before! Making new friends could be so scary.

When he arrived, though, he was met with nothing but smiles and wagging tails. Oh, how much relief he felt! He loved his new kennel so much that he even made his new bed his own with a few stuffies he had brought from home. He was still nervous - it takes time for a dog to settle in, after all - but he was confident that now he would fit in perfectly. Given enough time, of course.
Lights on!

Name: Chase That High | "Thrill"
Gender: Female
Name Meaning (optional):
Prompt: When Thrill was first introduced to the kennel, she was nervous and startled at how empty the space was. Her nails clicked on the wooden floorboards until it gave way to soft carpet. For now, the kennels were small in size but personal, here she could root herself and find stability. The scent of freshly washed cloth wafted around the room and water was ample, she grounded herself. Yes, she thought, this will do. What better place to carve a space for myself than a new beginning? With that she felt her fears slowly shift from churning anxiety to wary but calmed nerves. With a great heaving sigh, Thrill dropped her stress at the door and flopped down to rest.
