Snowdust
Snow’s welcome into the clan was an interesting one. It was close to winter and she came limping into the barrier and was spotted by one of the patrol teams. She was soaked wet and freezing and looked absolutely pitiful. There wasn’t much I could do to treat her besides just simply warming her up in my den. I wasn’t the affectionate type but I did what I had to to help this poor little thing survive. I remember wrapping her up in my fur and holding her close, coming to an understanding on just why Bluefoot’s parents so badly wanted children of their own…There was something nice about having something so small, fragile and weak depend on you for survival.


Once she got herself all healed up and feeling better she joined right in with the warriors and took an apprenticeship under Tansy. Tansy would come to my den and tell me that the poor thing kept getting distracted and was a pain in the butt to keep an eye on during training. That was kids for you, I remember when that was us..

After some time Snow expressed to me that they wanted to stop training as a warrior and take an apprenticeship under me. I was a little confused because It seemed like they really enjoyed being out and about with the patrol team.

“You’ll never be permitted to leave the barrier again. You know that, right?”


TenderHeart
Tender was pretty old when they arrived at the barrier. They claimed they were travelling with their partner and the two of them got separated in the woods. We sent a patrol out to look for them but there were never any good leads. It seemed to be a pretty common thing that most cats had a memory of doing or seeing something..that never really happened. It couldn’t just be a coincidence that every time we went out looking for those they swore were with them we found nothing ... .could it?

GiggleBranch
I don't like Giggle. She acts like she knows it all and frankly if she knew so much about the flora that grows in this area why doesn’t she just take over the medicine cat den? I had to pour my blood,sweat and tears into learning what all these strange herbs and flowers did…and she just shows up and magically knows?? I ask her how she found out these things and she just says she knew…like okay, sure. Don’t tell me then, that's fine. Thankfully for whatever reason she refused to be a medicine cat and wanted to stick close to the tree.

Probably for the best because I’d be useless at this compared to her.

The Hunt
“Do you hear that?” Squirrelpuddle would say quietly, her ears perked up as she scanned the clearing in the trees.

Squirrelpuddle and RadishPounce both ducked down, ready to pounce as the silently crept towards the clearing, both of them ready to strike at any moment.

A soft flapping of wings could be heard before scrapping and digging at the ground. The two glanced at one another for a moment before backing up into the brush behind them, their voices descending into a low whisper.

“That's a Phoenix, Radish. We shouldn’t”

“We’ve taken one before, if we catch it off guard we’ll be fine.” Her ear twitched as the predator grew closer, the sounds of the Phoenix Falcon digging around in the brush a few yards away.

“Yeah but we had backup then.”

“Yeah and we didn’t need it, c’mon. Get your head in the game.”

RadishPounce started inching closer once more, intent on capturing the predator off guard and getting away with some grand spoils. Squirrelpuddle steeled herself and followed suit, there was no way she would let her sister approach this thing alone.

no longer did the evergreens appear a honey gold in oblique shafts of sunlight, but a muted greige as a gossamer sheet of autumn fog formed halos of pallid vapor as if blanched by the turning of seasons. once dewey green vaults of young leaves had collapsed in on itself, succumbing to the entity of time as they wither and wilt and fall into the arms of the wind.

☆ Explore writing:

Autumn leaves crunched merrily beneath the patrol's paws as they made their way towards a massive oak tree. Goosefeather's whiskers twitched in anticipation at the scent of prey - squirrels were one of her favorite foods, and this tree was full of them. She could also scent a few chipmunks rummaging around for fallen acorns, but they were smaller and harder to spot beneath the blanket of leaves. Meanwhile, Flamesight was scouting out the tree itself, squinting up into the branches with her one good eye.

"Hey, Goosie - you know how to climb trees, right?"

"Kind of?" Goosefeather looked almost embarrassed by the question. "I mean, I've climbed them before, but I've never actually come back down by myself. The Twoleg kits would always cause a fuss whenever I did, and their elders would always climb up after me and carry me down before I could find my own way back down." As if on cue, the charm on the leather collar around their throat jingled as she sighed, and the sound made them wince.

Flamesight snorted. "Typical Twolegs. Always meddling in catty affairs. That's still a yes to my question, though - getting down is the easy part. What's hard is not falling while you're up there." The elder cat sized up the tree once more, then turned to her companion with a teasing glint in her eye. "You feeling brave enough to go up, or are you gonna stick to the ground today?"

Goosefeather blanched. "I, uh- I think I'll stay on the ground this time, thanks."

"Suit yourself, softpaw. More squirrels for me!" Flamesight dropped into a crouch, then sprang at the tree trunk and sank her claws in deep. Picking her way around the knotholes, the tabby scrabbled her way up the tree in what Goosefeather thought was a rather racoon-like manner before disappearing into the canopy of orange high above.
