Name: Delia
Scarf: your choice but something funky!!
Prompt: Delia always thought the saying “when you know, you know” was a myth, a fairytale. How could anyone be instinctively certain about anything? Delia was not one hundred percent sure of what she had for dinner three days ago. When people spoke about how they just had a “feeling” that their life partner was who they wanted to spend eternity with, Delia would often shake her head in disbelief. Her friends told her that “they just had a feeling” when they put on the wedding dress that would end up being their dress. Therefore, you can imagine Delia’s innermost feelings when she found the bag — her bag.
The aged satchel sat on the dusty floor of a thrift store. It looked like it had long been forgotten, overlooked, and ignored. The black leather was starting to peel, a sign of neglect, but the surface of the bag was rich. Flecks of amber were scattered about, and the bag was quite soft from years of being used by multiple owners. The bag’s skin was dotted with cracks and small crevices. Delia traced her fingers over these delicate lines, finding herself wondering about what adventures this bag has been on, and all of the places that the bag has seen. The buckles were a bit dull, but nothing that Delia could not attempt to fix. The leather seemed to fold naturally into Delia’s hands, almost like a cat cuddling up to their favorite person. The bag’s strap was weathered in a few areas. Delia could practically trace the imprints of prior owner’s fingers on the handle. Sturdy and strong, reliable, and dependable. They do not make bags like this anymore. She felt confident in the fact that her letters would have a comfortable place to call home before the letters were inevitably sent on their journey. However, for a short while at least, her letters would be warmly caressed by this bag. When she knew, she knew. This bag was always meant to be hers.
