Skua's relationship with his son, Malahide, is basically that of a semi-estranged father and his son; they're friendly enough to each other, but struggle to break through the barrier of awkwardness between them. They both desperately want to have a closer relationship, but it was extremely difficult to keep in contact when they lived on different properties; the only time they saw each other was during trials. Now that Skua's been brought into WH's kennels and program, he and his son both hope to find some way to break the ice and make up for lost time.

Halcyon was an easy baby. He didn't give his mother grief, listened to all of her wishes, minded his manners, and behaved as best as a wiggly little thing could. It was easy, though; Melise commanded his full attention and subservience through just how gentle and loving she was. Halcyon couldn't stand a moment away from her, always looking to make her proud, to give her reason to praise him, to smile. He was branded a momma's boy, and wore that with pride. The other puppies in his litter were a little more independent, taking after their father. Halcyon was just as gentle, just as sweet, just as kind as his mother was.

He often wonders how she fares these days. He's grown into such a legend and grown old, himself. Seen his own puppies and helped raise them. He wishes he could lean on her, visit her like he did in his youth. Would she be proud? Would she love his children? Would she still have room in her heart for him, even after all this time?

He has to believe she would, otherwise his heart would be broken. Melise will always be his number one, his most important, his most beloved.

Prompt: Rhea always knew her father growing up because her owner had trained and raised him, so it wasn't uncommon for him to be at the house or to stay for a few days, or even compete while Rhea hung out at the trial.

Her mom on the other hand?

Obviously she knew her growing up but since then, she'd only seen her maybe twice? Her owner showed her pictures sometimes, and she even hung out with her siblings, but she didn't see her mom much. She wasn't sure if maybe her mom's humans lived far away, or didn't have time for them to meet up. She hopes someday to run into her at a dog show to show her how awesome she's been doing on her agility work. Wherever her mom is, she just hopes she's proud!

Akari had been through a lot of challenges herself growing up, and wanted to make sure that her daughter never had to experience the same things she did. As Yuna grew older, she became even closer to her mother and gained a deeper understanding of her actions and intentions.

Child Collie: Rainbow Ridge's Short End of the Stick "Shorty"
Prompt: Venus certainly lives up to her name when it comes to her pups. She's an incredibly attentive and loving mother who keeps a watchful eye on her babies. Shorty just so happened to be one of her pups who needed extra attention from her, as he was a curious and adventurous child. While his siblings stayed close to Venus, Shorty was more interested in finding ways out of their nest to see the outside world...despite the fact he'd only just opened his eyes. There were countless times where Venus had to snatch Shorty by the scruff and drag him back to nestle with his siblings.

As the litter got older, Shorty continued to try to venture off on his own to explore the house. Venus was doggedly determined to keep him in her sight at all times, and Shorty's attempts at escape got more and more relentless. Eventually, once Venus decided that the pups were old enough, Shorty was finally allowed to explore. His curiosity got him into quite a few bad spots, but Venus was always there to help him out. Like the one time Shorty learned that cats don't like when you chew on their tails; Venus licked the resulting scratch on his nose and snuggled him until his whining stopped. To this day, Shorty still often finds himself in a pickle, but now he gets comforted by his human owner rather than his mother.

Prompt: Bastien was born to silence and darkness, but was still happy to settle into the warmth. He grew up slowly compared to the siblings and was often left behind in their games. Struggling to find them when they move too far away for him to feel or smell. What he does remember from puppyhood is the constant presence of something warm and big that smelled of worry and affection. The scent was familiar to little Bastien and he'd seek it out when the siblings had all scrambled away together in the garden. Even without the ability to learn language Bastien knew this as his father in the same way he recognized his mother from birth. He loved the hovering guardian that kept him safe and played with him when his siblings were too rough.

Bastien grew up where he was born for much longer than the rest of the siblings. One by one, their smells faded from the home and new smaller siblings would appear. All the same the smell that never changed was his father always by his side, making sure to nudge him to the food bowl if it got moved and teaching him to stand by the backdoor and press on some object affixed to the floor. Bastien had no idea what it did but the floor would shortly vibrate with the approaching steps of a human. Gentle hands would attach a leash and take him outside for a walk, if his father was with him Bastien would be allowed to go outside offleash. Those were his favourite times because his father wasn't afraid to play more rough with him. They could chase and wrestle around the place until they collapsed from exhaustion. Bastien was able to keep up as his father stayed close enough that his fur would brush against his son alerting him to where he was.

Bastien loved his father but one day he was gone, this happened once in a while, but this time was long enough for the scent to fade. It made him sad to not have someone to play with anymore, or the fluffy warmth of his fur to curl into at night. Bastien was still young when things changed and it changed even more when he was brought in the car and left at a new house. It was hard to get used to the new space but the humans adored him and made sure he could find things. He even had a small friend that would play with him, he didn't know her name (or even his own for that matter) but he knew she smelled like friendship. He still missed his father but at least he wasn't completely alone in this new place, and maybe he'd get to visit him again someday.

Her and her brother’s names were even given to her in a dream, one where she was walking in the snow, and the stars spoke to her. The world was hers, yes, but she should know that the world would only give her the right things at the right time. Alaska would sigh, but she knew that was her mom’s way of loving her. Trying to tell her everything she knew about the world, even if it turned out to be wrong.

When Alaska left home to follow her star, Lumi understood. She knew that she was born to travel, that it was in her stars. Alaska understood that Lumi would never give up her whole star thing, and left her to believe that. Still, she’d find herself looking up at night, wondering if her mom saw these same stars too. She missed her stories, and her voice that calmed her. When she landed at the kennel, she was exhausted; over a month of travel with minimal food and water did a number on her. As Galileo led her to the house, her collar quietly jingling as she trodded, she couldn’t help but see that his pelt looked something like the stars she wished her mom saw too.
