While Alexandra was handing out the last few cupcakes from her bake sale, she spotted him.
He was the new kid and ever since he arrived to this city, Alexandra couldn’t stop looking at him. He was a magnificent creature, white, blond hair with shining blue eyes. He had a fair complexion with the kindest smile you’d ever see, at least that was what Alexandra was thinking when she was interrupted by a stubborn, red-headed kid who was demanding a “chocolate-spice-it-all-up" cupcake, when she sighed and complied.
Later while Alexandra was doom-scrolling on TikTok on the same park bench after her shift, she was unwarily being sneaked up on until the imposter let out a big “BOO!!”
“AHH!!!”
Alexandra fell off her chair and was bewildered when she was given a tight hug, she looked up shocked to see her cousin Cassilera staring back at her.
“It’s been SOO long since I’ve seen you, cos” Cassilera said back, grinning.
Cassilera had definitely changed from the last time she had seen her, though Alexandra. Before, Cassilera was more a soft and quiet and wore pink frocks with a dignified manner and was always reprimanding her for every small little thing. As Alexandra was observing her disco-colored khaki pants with a t-shirt that looked like it came from a drugstore, she looked up and stared at Cassilera’s hair.
“Why, its GREEN!” yelped Alexandra.
“Of course, so much has changed, I had to beg my parents...”
As Cassilera continued yadding on, Alexandra stole a look back at her crush, who was chatting gayly with his group of friends.
Apparently, Cassilera noticed and looked back at him, shuddering.
“Why, his name is Jason cous, you should stay away from him. I’ve heard worse about him” she said.
“First of all, my name isn’t cous and second, wha..” started Alexandra when Cassilera recieved a test message on her phone.
“That’ll be my mom cous, see you later.” said Cassilera.
But as she walked back, she stopped, and looked back at Alexandra.
“Remember what I said.”
A few weeks later, Alexandra was ready. Outfit, check. Flowers, check. Finalized speech, unsure, but checked for now. Alexandra had kept her cousin’s words in mind and had been keenly observing Jason for a while and since he wasn’t being supicious, she decided it was time to let her show her heart to him. She had managed to start an abrupt conversation with him, and she wanted to hear his laugh again, and see his smile. As she walked into her classroom, she spotted Jason walking down a deserted outdoor corridor. She picked up the flowers, and just as she was about to speak her heart out, she stared back.
Jason. With another girl. Smooching down the hallway. Not with her. Jason looked up and was shocked to see her standing there.
Unable to think further, she dropped the flowers, and walked back in a daze, not looking back, and ignoring Jason’s pleading calls. The flowers stayed, wilting.
