The new owners had an old toy from a dog they’d had previously. The dog had passed away, and they just couldn’t bring their selves to get rid of the toy. The toy, a stuffed dinosaur, did the trick. Bellaa came right out of her sadness after that. They don’t know this, but she’d had a dinosaur toy from her first owners. The owners hadn’t sent the toy with her…That’s why the next family couldn’t get her to perk up. It’s luckily that this couple had a dinosaur stuffed animal, and Bellaa is very happy now.

Toucan's owner credits him finally perking up due to the other animals on the ranch. When he first arrived, they tried all kinds of things from giving him space to doing training, but they rarely got much of a response. That is, until he started bonding with the other animals. See, Toucan's new owner owns a ranch that has a plethora of rescue animals. From dogs to cat to horses to other critters, there's something in almost every size, color, and personality. At first the owner thought Toucan would be drawn to one of the quieter old dogs, that he just needed someone subtle to console him. That was partially correct, he did end up becoming close with Condor who often helps other dogs work through their issues, but only after he ran into Brisket first. With Brisket, it was literally "ran into". Brisket is all go, no stop and is known for accidentally running into others. When he ran into Toucan though it was the first time Brisket was the one knocked over! As he peered up at the giant dog, his tail started wagging furiously as he quickly apologized. While he can be a bit overwhelming, Brisket is pure friendly energy given dog form. Some say he's "too much" but he ended up being exactly what Toucan needed. He was so relentlessly cheerful and interactive that Toucan's walls started crumbling. It wasn't long before their owner started to see a big change in Toucan's behavior. From tail wags to more interactions, it was clear Brisket was helping the new dog.

Sad dogs are hard to deal with.

It wasn't like we could just ask July why he was sad. Of course, we could hypothesize. Rehomed once, placed in a shelter, then rehomed back to us. I wasn't an expert, but it didn't take one to figure that such impernance would dampen any creature's mood. We tried almost everything to get him out of this depressive rut. Long walks, peanut butter, new toys, introducing him to friends' dogs, and more I'm too tired to list.

I really have my earbuds to thank for disconnecing in the middle of cleaning to giving us some insight on how to help our little (big) guy.

My playlist, simply labelled Absolute Bops, had been blasting right in my ear when walking a corner yanked the cord out of the phone. 'Hit the road, Jack, and don't you come back no more, no more, no mor eno more!'The lyrics of Ray Charles' 'Hit the Road Jack' filled the room. I grumble in dissastifaction as my cleaning groove is completly thrown off, fumbling in my pocket for the phone to plug my earbuds back in.I pause upon hearing a series of thump, thump, thumps. That wasn't the door. No one else was home. That left. . .

I looked over at July, who was looking over at me intently with perked ears, with a my jaw agape. His tail was wagging. I look down at the phone playign in my hand. No way. Does he have musical preference? I paused the song. His tail went still. Unpause. Wag. Pause. Stop. We stare at each other for a few moments.

Instead of cleaning, I spent the next hour flipping through old-timey songs to see what July enjoyed. The guy loved Ray Charles, but didn't seem to care for Nat King Cole. Aretha Franklin was a great one, too. Thus, came the creation of July's Playlist. No, it wasn't a permanent method to help his depression. But when I play this music, he just seems a little more alive than before. It wasn't a permanent solution. I couldn't play these songs all hours of the day.

But he's happier. It's a start.

Prompt: It was hard at first but the solution to Chief's never ending blues was simple. Lambs. Introduced to the lambs on the farm, it was almost like magic. He perked up right away and seemed to be curious yet cautious while ever so carefully sniffing at the small animals despite he's big size. Looking away for just a few moments, Chief's new owner turned back to see him protectively curled around the young lambs, occasionally giving them gentle licks. Seems like the big teddy bear just needed to have a job to do and it seems he has taken quiet the liking to keeping a watchful eye over the young lambs as they played, allowing their mothers to have a short break from their energetic babies.
