Near the end of last year their humans brought home a tinier human. Originally Leira wasn't sure what to think of them but as she got bigger, Leira fell in love.

She's starting to walk now and yes, the free Cheerios are a plus, but Leira just wants to hear her giggle.

So this year she wants to make sure she helps the little one out. She wants to help her stand up more and be safe and protect her from scary things like the vaccuum and thunder storms.

2. Show her stuffie all her favorite places.

At Christmas this year she got a brand new stuffie!! It's a lil polar bear and she named him Puffy. Puffy hasn't gotten to see all the cool stuff in life yet so she decided to make it one of her goals this year!

Like Puffy deserves to see the cool fluff behind the dryer, and that one sunny spot on the rug that's so cozy. Also her favorite tree in the yard that the squirrels are always in.

She’s hoping this new outlet will allowing her to become more relaxed and not over stressing on the smallest of promblrns.

1. Get over his fear of fireworks so he can enjoy their beauty
Sleet really thought he could do it, he had been mentally preparing for it all over the year, getting more calm around loud sounds. But as New Years eve came, he realized he was very very wrong. He sat by the window, the sky lighting up with colorful fireworks, or to him exploding colorful stars. He flinched at every noise, shaking and trembling hard. His owner walked over and slipped a odd contraption over his ears. She had put headphones on him, special for dogs which instantly plunged the world into silence around him. As darkness came, he sat their, basking in the wonderful display outside, loving all the pretty colors he could see and thankful for the weird noise killer device his owner put on him.

2. Visit a national park and walk all the trails there
Sleet had seen national parks on tv, and they were stunning. He would often bark at the tv or whine at it when he saw one, trying to communicate he wanted to go there! A few months into the year, he heard his owners talking about going to one, and he was beyond excited. One of the main things he was excited to do there was walk the long trails and see some "Elk" as the people on tv called them but he always called them hoofed beasts. In the following weeks, he payed extra attention when they did training and walks, trying to be the bestest boy so he could go. When they finally went, he was amazed and when they went on the first trail, his nose went to town sniffing every surface and running down it, seeing all the beautiful forest but always making sure to stay close to mom and dad and make sure to act nice when other hikers came down the trail. While they were walking the trail, there was a small lookout deck and when they stepped out on it, they saw a whole herd of elk. Sleet spun around happily, starting to howl which made a few of the elk glance up but not pay much mind. Best trip ever.

Organize a scavenger hunt for my favourite treats and toys in the backyard and park.

Caelith plans to enjoy thrilling adventures every month by asking his human to hide goodies for him to sniff out. The plan is for Caelith's human to create themed scavenger hunts; one for Easter with hidden eggs, one for fall with pumpkin-shaped goodies, and even a winter holiday hunt with snow-covered treasures. Each hunt is a tail-wagging success, and Caelith will be looking forward to every new adventure!




Some notes from Caelith's human on how they plan to make these two resolutions come true:



Goal: Teach Caelith to identify and bring back specific items on command.
Plan to achieve it:

1. Start simple: I’ll begin with one item Caelith loves, his favourite toy. Using clear commands like “Get Fluffo Puff,” I’ll reward him every time he brings the right object.
2. Gradually add variety: Once he masters one item, I’ll introduce new ones, maybe a ball, a sock, or a remote. I’ll use repetition and positive reinforcement to teach him the names.
3. Add a twist: To make it fun, I’ll sometimes ask for silly combinations, like “Get the sock and the ball!” or hide objects around the house for Caelith to find.
4. Celebrate victories: Every time he gets it right, Caelith will get treats, belly rubs, and a big cheer of “Good job!”

By the end of the year, Caelith will be a fetching expert, and I’ll finally stop losing socks. (Well, maybe.)

Goal: Set up monthly scavenger hunts to let Caelith sniff out his favourite treats and toys.

1. Create themed hunts: I’ll make each scavenger hunt unique! For example, in spring, I’ll hide treats in plastic eggs; in summer, I can bury toys in the sand at the park; and in winter, I’ll tuck goodies in the snow.
2. Start simple and build up: I’ll begin with easy hiding spots like treats under a blanket or toys in plain sight, then gradually make it more challenging.
3. Encourage their nose work: I’ll give Caelith a sniff of the treat or toy before letting him loose. If he is struggling, I’ll guide him gently to a hiding spot to keep it fun, not frustrating.
4. Document the fun: I will record every step of the way of Caelith's journey to becoming a professional scavenger hunter to be able to observe and improve my hiding techniques to make Caelith enjoy it as much as possible.

By the end of the year, I’ll have a happy, adventurous pup who knows every corner of our backyard and the park and who can’t wait for the next hunt!
