-cline, meaning slope.
A layer within the Sun that separates two distinct regions of rotational behavior: the radiative zone and the convective zone. In the inner, radiative zone, the Sun's material rotates nearly uniformly at roughly the same speed. In the outer, convective zone, the Sun's material rotates differentially, meaning that different latitudes and depths rotate at different speeds and the equator rotates faster than the poles. The tachocline is a very thin, shear layer in between these zones, where the rotation transitions from one mode to the other. It is thought to play a crucial role in the Sun's magnetic field generation.
