Prompt: 788 words. Apologies if there are any mistakes. The distinguishing rivulets of warming breath strung in steadily fostered strings upon the very crest of Owl In Thick Forest's lips languidly pooled against the firm permanence of the oakwood fence structuring the Two-leg yard whereupon Hana resided as he arduously hoisted his form over such, the viscous bourns of virescent encapsulating the fibrovascular fiber of his irises astutely flitting along the composition of sown grass blades and catmint etched into the yard at the very prompt of his paws meeting the ground, pausing for a single fleeting beat of contemplatation prior to claiming a plethora of steps afore himself in search - his mind silently reeling with notions regarding that of the information
Myna had divulged to him no more than an hour preceding his resolve to visit Hana, the she-cat of which he bore no intention of forming a relationship with nor to sire kits for. It was merely a one-time occurrence between the pythias and "soft-hearted", spurred by foolish abandon and reckless enactment he swore himself into denying since, despite Myna's close relations with Hana and the words they consistently exchanged when convenience proved.
Abruptly, the cartilage of Owl right ear twitched irregularly beneath the sheer weight of cries piercing through his mulling from their position under the farthest portion of the composite of timberwood perched directly afore the back threshold of the Two-leg den, his ears pinning themselves against either side of his skull whilst he manuevered himself closer to that of the deck itself, cautiously pressed the white tufts of fur binding his chest to the ground upon meeting the cusp and sedately enveloping himself in the stark darkened expanse, comprehending the manner in which the distinctive coo of a feminine voice interjected them. He paused thereafter at the adjustment of darkness to his eyes, restraining tension from permeating his muscles as his mechanically dilating pupils settled upon that of Hana's form curled delicately around a cluster of white and brown kittens suckling at her side.
With an amount of hesitancy, Owl met her from behind, yet didn't quite touch her while the kittens' wails gradually diminished into murmurs by Hana's insistence. "Myna said you were expecting."
"Ah, I see I couldn't hide it from you." Hana murmured in lieu of a flinch, the darkened summit of her tail flicking against the firm pillar of wood structuring the deck.
"You never could." Owl claimed, questioning thereafter. "They're mine?"
Hana hummed, lazily tilting her head to the side as a means to acquaint herself to his presence, the floral bandana fastened around her neck faintly whispering. "All yours, Mr. Forest."
"Don't name me that." Owl firmly stated.
"Fine, fine." Hana relented "Calm your paws, Owl. You wouldn't want to scare them, would you?"
"I never even wanted them." Owl muttered. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"For the same reason you want to growl at the sight of them." Hana replied, siezing a terse breath. "You may not realize it, but I can read you, Owl. Like a book. And I know you find this situation 'less than ideal', but-"
"But nothing! There isn't-" Owl began, merely to be interjected by Hana's tail draping his muzzle.
"I'm not done." Hana stated. "I know you find find this situation 'less than ideal', however, you're going to take them regardless of how you feel."
"What?!" Owl snarled out, earning a cry from the youngest of the litter. "What in the stars do you mean I have to take them? They're
your kits!"
"They are just as much mine as they are yours!" Hana hissed, idly soothing the hitherto calm kits with a paw. "Besides, my owners don't like kits. They'll get rid of this litter if they find out I had them."
"Let them! I don't care." Owl harshly growled.
"Do you truly want that?" Hana questioned, the azure and golden hues of her eyes narrowing. "Do you want your first litter, and potentially your only litter, to die at the hands of my owners?"
Owl hesitated just as he had prior, abiding by the suffocating bourns of stillness permeating the air serving to distance to two while his thoughts claimed him in reason, for the introduction of his kits wouldn't prove to harm him nor his colony if he claimed they were abandoned - feigning the adoption of them therein may perhaps shift the negative opinions those he's reigned under have formed of him. His gaze intently fixed on the small interchangeable pelts poised along the base of Hana's stomach prior to mustering a feeble response. "No."
"Then it's settled." Hana asserted. "Once they can be waned from my milk, Myna will inform you. From there, you will return, and thus leave with them."
Owl relented, "Fine."
