Prompt:

This was something new, something they hadn’t seen in awhile. How did this keep happening? Was this some kind of broken message that the gods were trying to send for them? Darkness swallowed the land during day and not even the stars dared to reveal themselves.

Why had the darkness stolen the sun this moment? Where had it gone within the bound full all consuming darkness. Was this to be a curse for their land to wake for the sun once more? Perhaps this was to be a hidden blessing that they would only uncover long after the time had passed?

All anybody knew right now was that something was taking over their gorgeous kingdom. When the sun finally appeared again, it was something that had not expected.

During their terror and shock, something had appeared. A small bundle with a rapidly scratched note attached. What was this supposed to mean? Something was most certainly off about this whole encounter, but finally, one cat dared to step up, to see what the note read.

“A curse appeared over the land, swallowing the sun for a moments notice. This child can be your saviour if you bond with them correctly. Allow this child to grow under your strength, form a bond with them and never again, will you experience the blink of darkness for more than a moment. If you dare to corrupt this child or turn them the wrong way, they’ll curse you a darkness that will never go away. It is your move, Kingdom cats. But choose wisely because there is no going back.”

The cats quickly scrambled as the note was read aloud, but they understood the message. This child was important and there was nobody aloud to harm it for the consequences that may arise.

Nobody dared to test the gods.

Prompt: The sky was painted a variety of oranges and purples, intertwining with another and growing into vibrant shades of pink, reaching for the sun they were bore beneath. As the sun rose, a tall black molly emerged from the depths of her den, stretching with a drawn out yawn. She gazed about in confusion, her orange and green gaze puzzled, until she saw the silhouette of her lover sitting, overlooking the cliff. Something about it seemed.. worrying, and with a breath in, she approached her lover's flank.

"Something on your mind, my Onyx?" Envy inquired, resting her head atop Onyx's, purring gently. It was a way of reassurance between the two mollies, and Envy immediately felt Onyx tense up. She withdrew her head, stepping to her side. "What's going on? Any of our rogues I need to get onto?"

"No, not at all. Just uh... just try to be quiet when I tell you this. I don't want to wake the others." Onyx explained, tilting her head in the direction of the den behind them. Within the den, a group of young cats slept. They were bundled up together - the children of Envy and Onyx. Zig, Zag, Wish, and the lone male, Crow. Starting to absorb the seriousness, Envy turned back to Onyx, bowing her head.

"Of course. Go on."

"Well, we are going to have more additions to our family." Onyx whispered, watching as Envy's eyes widened like saucers. Her eyes glinted, and Onyx could see Envy forcing herself to stay quiet, taking in a breath to puff up her cheeks, warranting a laugh from Onyx before the molly spoke.

"MORE KITS?!" Envy yipped. "Those four are just getting to the rowdy stage!" She whispered, but Onyx could tell she wanted to yell.

"This is why I wanted to waaaaaait." Onyx groaned, slipping down to the ground. Envy immediately noticed her mistake, and moved forward, placing her paw upon Onyx's flank.

"When did I say that it was bad? I love our little family. I guess I'm just... shocked it's growing again so soon." Envy said reassuringly. "I always dreamed of having a big family, much healthier than my own. All you are doing is fulfilling my dream." Envy purred, burying her nose into Onyx's neck. The mollies shared a laugh.

"Do you think these kits will be as crazy as those 4?" Onyx asked, looking back at the den. Her ears perked up as she heard a mew, indicating one of them was beginning to wake up. "Speak of the devil."

"Just gives us more opportunities to train our minds." Envy said teasingly. "I just wonder if we'll get another crazy pair like Zig and Zag, or a mysterious tom like Crow."

"What about Wish?" Onyx joked.

"...Do I have to explain that surprise?" Envy chuckled. "Every surprise with you and our little family is worth every second of pain and happiness."

“findingcheese! wake up! wake up! WAKE UP!” raspberry squealed, shaking her friend’s side eagerly.

the ginger tom awoke, groggily blinking open his purple eyes. “what is it?” he sat up and found himself face to face with an ecstatic raspberry.
she bounced around his nest, meowing, “cilantro says i’m going to have kits! i’m going to have kits!”

findingcheese’s eyes widened and he broke into a grin. “congratulations! i’m happy for you. whose kits are they?”
raspberry’s yellow gaze darkened, just for a moment.

“peppershrike’s.” she rasped.
findingcheese put his tail on his best friend’s shoulder. “i’m sorry. i’m sure he’ll be watching…from…wherever he is.”

raspberry sniffled and burst into tears. “it’s not the same! he got corrupted, he didn’t die! all that’s left of him is a monster!” the chocolate tortie wailed, burying her face into findingcheese’s fur.

“don’t say that. i’m sure his spirit travelled to the spirit realm.” findingcheese mewed, trying to comfort the crying molly. however, he himself wasn’t sure that his words were true.

an awkward silence began to bloom between the two.

raspberry looked up. “hey, findingcheese? you’re my best friend, right?”

the red tabby stared at her in confusion. “of course i am!”

“well….best friends help each other in times of need, right?” raspberry whispered. “could you be these kits’ godfather? i mean…since they don’t have a father to look after them. you’re most likely the closest thing they’ll have.”

findingcheese seemed surprised. “oh, oh, it’s okay if you don’t want—“

“of course! i am your best friend, I’ll do anything to help you and your kits! besides, there’s a first time for everything.” he mewed. raspberry smiled. “thank you.”

“it’s nothing. i’ll try to be the best godfather i can.” findingcheese purred. “these kits will be lucky to have me, i bet they’ll inherit some of your clumsiness!” he joked. raspberry swatted one of her paws at him. “shush, you!”

“i’ll give them the comfiest nests, and the best fresh-kill and play the best games of moss ball with them.” findingcheese grinned.

“i’m sure you’ll be a great father! the kits would love your horrible singing and stories.”

“you mean my beautiful soprano song and my mystical tales?” findingcheese smirked, prancing around in front of raspberry.

raspberry grinned back. and she knew that despite the loss of a father, findingcheese would take care of them.
