Nectarblossom had never really thought of herself as a future mother, but when she found out she was expecting, she knew right away that she'd do anything for her kits.
Or kit, singular, that was. One whole perfect beautiful kitten, all hers and no one else's. She was going to raise them to be smart and kind and to think for themself and carve out their own path in life, as she had. Nothing was going to stand in the way of her kit's future - or her own.
When her kit was old enough to travel, she moved to the Nest's capital city. She'd been planning to move there for some time, to pursue her own education and career, and this offered the perfect motivation for her to finalize her move. She wanted to ensure that her kit grew roots in a place where they would live for a long time, rather than tear them away from friends and stability by lingering too long in another city she didn't plan to stay in. She didn't have much tying herself to her old city, either. It helped that job opportunities were more abundant in the bigger city, too, and there'd be better higher education for her kit as well - if they wanted it.
It was important to Nectarblossom that she focus on keeping her own individuality and identity while raising her kitten. She was a mom, yes, and that was important to her, but she'd rather define herself by her other traits first - so she joined a book club to start making friends, not a mom's club. Most of her new friends didn't even know she had a kit at first, and once they learned, often the question of the other parent would come up. Nectarblossom's response was the same each time: a stern, calculating glare that shut them up immediately. Her kit was hers and they were their own self, and nothing else mattered.
