Prompt: 51 words.
While it isn't considered a "fun" fact by most, cheetahs are classified as vulnerable on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List, and as endangered under the U.S. Endangered Species Act - in consequence of human conflict (encroaching and illegal trade) and reproductive issues resulting from their limited genetic diversity.

Prompt: A traditional Zulu tale says that the cheetah got their identifying markings after a mother cheetah that got her three cubs stolen by a lazy hunter. She cried so long and so loudly that her tears left dark streaks down her cheeks.
An old man heard her cries and seeing her so distressed, returned to the village, where he told to the elders of the tribe what happened. The lazy hunter was exiled from the village and the cheetah cubs returned to their mother, but her weeping had stained her cheeks forever.

Prompt: Unlike most big cats, Cheetahs are diurnal and hunt mostly during the day instead of the night. This means they have really good eyesight thanks to the extra cone photoreceptor cells in their eyes and can spot prey from up to 5km (3mi) away.
