Beaumont Collie #1044 - Adopted

Postby Griffin Torrens » Fri Nov 15, 2024 3:13 am

    Adopted

    Username: appleschloss
    Name: Founders of Olympus "Rhea"
    Gender: Female
    Height: 17 in
    Weight: 33 lbs
Color: Lilac and Gold Mosaic Chinchilla
Genotype: atat bb cchcch dd Echeph hh Ii kyky mm SS tt UU LL

    --

A shiny new breed specific gene!
Pearl is a sister gene to Chinchilla and presents as epheph or Echeph with atat/ata, at+at+/at+a, and kyky. It functions similarly to Eryth, with all eumelanin (black pigment) being replaced by pheomelanin (red pigment), with their markings following the Chinchilla pattern. Echeph collies are known as Mosaic Chinchillas, with a combination of the normal presentations of both Pearl and Chinchilla, resulting in a pseudo-chimeric chinchilla coat.

This collie looks a little mismatched! Tell me about two conflicting personality traits they have through a short story!
For example, maybe they're greedy but generous, so steal a tub of treats but share them out with friends.
    Min 200 words, no max.

You may apply for as many as you’d like, but each person may only win one of this initial set of Pearl collies.

Name: SLK Keep Them Guessing // Winnie
Gender: Female
Name Meaning: Short for Winifred.
Prompt: “Don’t leave.” Wednesday heard him say as she turned away. She couldn’t look. “Why would I stay?” She muttered, looking down at the pavement. “Not like you wanted me to before.” Truth be told, she was terrified. “Because…” he trailed off. She snapped around to look at him. “Because what, Casper. Because you want to keep me stuck? Because once I’m gone, you won’t have anyone to bother anymore? No one to force to behave by your will?” She growled, suddenly filled with rage. “I won’t do it anymore. No one deserves what you’ve done to me. I’m done.” Casper looked stunned. The meek dog he once knew was there, snarling at him, beckoning for him to reply. As he stood still, confused, Wednesday took her chance to speak again. “What you did was unspeakable. Unbearable, unimaginable. The day you were born was the day all my problems began. We’ve gone through a lot together.” She started cornering him, and the alleyway seemed to shrink around him. “You always say you were there for me when we were dumped. Who else was supposed to be there!” She exclaimed. “You act like you’ve been doing me a favor for staying. You’ve been doing nothing in my favor since the day you came home. I was loved. I was adored. When you came along, I became nothing to them.” She stopped for a second, her heart aching again. But she couldn’t give up the facade. “I hate you.” She growled. Casper shrunk into the corner. Suddenly, he was terrified. The smaller collie had become the biggest figure he’d ever seen. He started looking around, trying to find a way out. She noticed, and turned to leave. She looked back at him one last time, watching him shake. The roles were finally reversed. She was the big dog here. “Good luck,” she said as she loped off.

Wednesday traveled for a long time. Some days, she thought she heard him behind her. She heard his laugh, his mocks, his never-ending stream of insults. She would look over her shoulder, watching as the city shrunk in the distance. She couldn’t remember when the last time she had snapped like that was. She was never that loud, she thought. She’d simply take what was thrown at her. But not anymore. She couldn’t, wouldn’t be that dog. Even when the thorns began to stick in her sides, and burrs would get stuck in her paws. That’s the worst time to give up, she knew it.

When Winnie arrived outside the gates of the ranch, she was emaciated. It had been a week since she’d eaten anything nutritious, and who knows how long before that since Casper had let her eat anything good either. She flopped down for a nap, not smelling the other dogs nearby. Felix was the dog who spotted her first. He led his owner down to the gates, and they brought her inside. For a while, Winnie wouldn’t eat. She was truly afraid again, all her bravery ran out by the long and weary travels. But her hunger got the best of her. She sat in the living room of the ranch house as Felix and Aspen watched her silently from the couch, pretending to watch the TV. As she finished, she turned to them. “I’m Winnie,” she told them. “Nice name,” Aspen said.

She was the timid dog no longer.

Name: Founders of Olympus "Rhea"
Gender: Female
Name Meaning: All my IRL dogs have mythology themed names. Rhea is one of the "mother" figures in Greek mythology so the fact that this would be my first Beaumont Collie feels fitting <3
Prompt: I think her conflicting traits would be that she loves company but generally wants to be left alone by most people/dogs. Like so-

Rhea sighed and stretched as she woke up that morning in her dog bed. She looked around the room and realized it was already empty. Weird. Normally she woke up when her owner did, but no matter. She'd just go find her.

Trotting through out the house it took a moment to locate her, but she finally found her in her office. Her owner looked up, greeting her, but Rhea just nodded and flopped down on the dog bed tucked into the corner of the room. She didn't need morning pets, she just wanted to hang out, and her owner knew that.

Later that day, as her owner was making food, the front door opened and two other humans walked in. Rhea woofed at them twice until her owner patted her on the head. She'd seen these people before, but not super often.

One of them came over, cooing at her, and Rhea backed up, slinking away behind her owner. She heard her owner laugh and say something to the other people. They laughed too and looked at her again, which Rhea didn't super like so she walked away into the nearby room.

She could still hear everyone and if she craned her head she could see them too, but they were finally leaving her be, just as she wanted.

Name: CoR's Song of the Ridge "Lark"
    Gender: Female
Name Meaning: derived from the Old English word lære, meaning "songbird". The lark's song at sunrise is often thought to be symbolic of hope, renewal, and the start of a new day, making it a name tied to positive energy and fresh beginnings. The title reflects Lark's emerging "song" of confidence and resilience that she puts towards winning the Ridge Run. Lark is driven to achieve big goals and works hard to succeed, yet she is constantly plagued by feelings of inadequacy and fear of failure. (ambitious vs self doubting)
Prompt: Lark lived in a quiet mountain village, where the snow clung to every tree and stone and the peaks towered against the pale sky. Winter here was a constant, fierce and unyielding, shaping every moment of life. Every day, Lark watched the sled teams train for the annual Ridge Run, a brutal race that wound its way through jagged cliffs, steep ravines, and icy stretches that could break the most seasoned dogs.

From the first time she saw the Ridge Run as a pup, the race sparked a fire inside her. She dreamed of leading a team across the finish line, feeling the rush of wind against her fur and hearing the crowd roar with pride. To prepare, she’d drag fallen logs through the snow covered woods, pretending they were sleds, imagining herself in the thick of the race, the thrill of the run, the pride of victory.

But for every dream, there were doubts. "You’re too small," whispered the voice inside her. "You don’t have the strength. What if you fail?" Those thoughts settled in, freezing her confidence, making her question her every move.

Then, one fateful day, the village’s fastest team lost their lead dog to an injury, and a call went out for tryouts. Lark’s heart skipped a beat. This was her moment—the chance she’d been waiting for. But as she stood at the edge of the training field, her paws sank into the snow, heavy with fear.

"What if I trip? What if I’m not strong enough?" she thought. The doubts threatened to swallow her, to turn her away. But then a voice cut through the cold air.

"Lark! You here to try out?" It was Niko, the gruff but kind sled master, his face lined with years of hard work and experience. He gave her a warm, knowing smile. "I’ve seen you hauling logs all winter. You’ve got grit."

Lark’s heart pounded. She wanted to speak, to argue, to run, but instead, she gave a shaky nod.

"Good," Niko said, nodding with approval. "Grit’s exactly what we need."

The tryouts began. Lark stood in line, her harness clicking into place, her heart thumping in her chest. When the command to pull rang out, the sled felt impossibly heavy, a mountain on her shoulders. Her paws slid in the snow, doubt washing over her.

Then she remembered Niko’s words: You’ve got grit. She clenched her teeth, dug her paws into the frozen ground, and pushed forward. Her muscles screamed with the effort, but she kept going, feeling the sled shift, gaining momentum. The weight didn’t feel as crushing and she found her rhythm, the team moving together, pulling as one.

By the end of the course, Lark hadn’t just kept up—she’d led the team through the hardest stretch, pushing them forward when the path grew steep and icy. The crowd erupted in cheers but all Lark could hear was the pounding of her own heartbeat, a mix of triumph and disbelief.

"You’ve got the job," Niko said, his voice gruff but warm. "Welcome to the team."

That night, Lark laid down, staring out at the frost tipped window. The doubts still lingered in her mind—could she really lead the team through the Ridge Run? But for the first time, those doubts didn’t feel like walls—they felt like fuel. A spark of hope flickered inside her.

As the moonlight bathed the snow covered peaks outside her window, Lark thought to herself, "One step at a time."

Her doubts hadn’t disappeared, but now, instead of holding her back, they pushed her forward, each step a little closer to the Ridge Run. (603/200)

Name: Peridot on Ice, (Gemster)
Gender: male
Name Meaning: -
Prompt:
Gemster could not sleep tonight. He kept dreaming of his big birthday coming up. I told him we would go to get a pupicino then go to the local park to listen to a concert with our friends and their fur babies. The concert will be a surprise artist that will include doggy treats to match the band's genre. The band will star either Yanni with blueberry oatmeal muffins for the pups and espresso shots for their owners or Metallica with doggy jerky and root beer floats. Gemster just adores both.

He loves to just lay down and wag his tail to the beat of the violins while Yanni conducts his orchestra. Then, on other days he gets peppy and playful tapping his paws and "tossing" his ball around while listening to Enter Sandman.

Every night for the last week Gemster excitedly eats his dinner then paces around the room. He will then flop down with a sigh just to get up again in 15 minutes. We are all fired up to finally find out who the mystery artist will be playing tomorrow, a soothing, enjoyable evening concert for our Chi side or the energetic atmosphere of rocking out under the stars to appease our metal heads.

Now I can't sleep either.....

Name: A World Split | Antithia
    Gender: female
Name Meaning: derived from "antithesis," meaning direct opposite
    Prompt:

Antithia trotted through the forest with determined steps. Her eyes were focused on the tiny pearl barely visible in the tall grass next to an old well. It was a treasure, that she was certain of, and no one loved treasures more than Antithia. Her heart was pounding with excitement when she reached the pearl and carefully picked it up with her teeth.

Just when she was about to turn around and return from where she came, she heard a tiny whimper. She stopped in her tracks and pricked her ears. Next to the well sat a small puppy with drooping ears and tear-filled eyes. The puppy didn't have a collar and seemed to be lost. Antithia released her grip on the pearl, and as it fell to the ground, she felt a wave of sympathy wash over her.

She glanced at the pearl and then at the puppy. It was her treasure... but the puppy looked so lonely. Antithia took a deep breath before she picked the pearl back up and walked over to the puppy. She carefully put it down next to the puppy before slowly nudging it closer to the little one with her nose. The joy in the poor puppy's eyes was all Antithia needed, and she was at once satisfied with her decision.

The puppy looked at the pearl with wide eyes filled with joy before it began to play with it. Antithia sat quietly and watched the puppy play. A part of her mourned her lost treasure, while another part was filled with a warm feeling. Sometimes, she thought, it's better to share one's treasures with others than to hide them.
