But still Boudreaux was not free. He was still trapped in the doll but now he lay abandoned in the mud crying out in his mind but no one could hear him. Until one day someone did. He wasn't even sure at first that her voice wasn't just something his mind had conjured up. The voice belonged to a small, blue, glowing Marumi. She lifted his small form from the mud and whispered to him that her name was Enid and he was safe now. Enid means spirit she explained to him as she gently cleaned the mud from the doll. She told him all about her connections to the spirit world as she sewed on a new button eye and stitched his holes.
She tried and tried to remove his being from the doll. Finally Enid had to admit defeat. She couldn't separate him from the doll she gently explained to him. The number of uses and the amount of time had bound them too tightly together for her powers. She was able to make it so he could move on his own, and speak even with his mouth sewn shut. Enid vowed that she would keep him with her always until they found a way to break the bonds that kept him imprisoned in the doll. While saddened at first by the news that he would continue to be trapped in the doll, he grew to accept it now that he had Enid. He told Enid he was okay staying in the doll if she would accept his vow to serve as her familiar.
