It starts with a candle. Just one… then two, three and four.
Whispers of honeyed candlelight ooze into the chilling night air, spitting rivers of topaz and molten fire upon the chaos beyond. Striped tents billow in hues of neon orange, while merri-go-rounds spiral to the crow of classic carnival music as trapezists balance overhead.

And for a moment, you are enamoured.

It is only at that moment when liquid fire sets the night ablaze, its light eclipsing a ornate marble statue of…. a carrot? And a grinning cheshire cat atop it. You frown, leaning closer for a better look.

"Aha! Looking at something?" you startle, stumbling backwards as you find shadowed face looming over yours. "Oh! Don't be so scared… It's me! Cinnamonstick! I'm one of the owners of the carnival!"

You swallow, scratching your head. "I-i see." Cinnamonstick does not seem to notice your unease.

"I see you’ve found Carrrl!" His neon eyes bore into yours as he gestures toward the cheshire cat, its smile stretched wide in the dark. "He was the founder of this carnival! He is also my great-grandfather… pretty cool guy if you ask m-"

"Busy pestering our new guest?"

This time, it is Cinnamonstick who startles. His neon eyes widen at the sight of autumn-leaf curls and mismatched eyes before he relaxes, head tilting. "Ahh, Maplefrost. It's about time you showed up."

"And I think it's about time you let our poor guest go… I think they've had enough of all your boring history." Her eye flutters shut in a little wink as she pats you on the shoulder. "Welcome to Carrrl's Carrotopia, my friend! Now, go off and have some fun!"
