Name: Badger

DGAB: AMAB

Origin: Stray ---> Kittypet --> clan cat

(Deputy)

Prompt:

Badger groomed himself as he talked to the elders. 3 kits entered the den. "Tell us a story! Tell us a story!" The kits begged the elders in the middle of their conversation. "Why don't I tell you a story?" Badger suggested tilting his head. "Oooo! Yes please!" The kittens sat down waiting for Badger to start his story. "This is the story on why I left from the twolegs." Badger started. "I wa-" "You met twolegs!?" A kit interrupted. "Yes. As I was saying I wa-" "You were a kittypet?!" Another kit spoke up. "I was. Now stop interrupting if you want to hear the story." Badger paused making sure they understood before contiuning. "I was born to my mom who was a stray. I was the only kitten to survive. One day when my mother left to find some food for herself, she hadn't come back for hours and I was starving as I was as young as you!" He grinned. While Badger wasn't a very old cat, he wasn't even a elder yet, it was still amusing to see the kits shocked faces. "WOWEEEE!" A kit exclaimed. "Mhm, since I was so hungry I started to meow, and meow. And I meowed for quite a while. When two twolegs approached me and picked me up. I was so terrified, but the twolegs were nice and took me home. They gave me a shiny collar and I grew up with them. As I grew older I also grew a bigger sense of adventure! I would explore the dens near my twoleg's den and meet other kittypets. It was a nice life I would say so, but I wished for something bigger!" He looked at the kits as their curiosity grew. "And?" A kit wished for him to continue. "Well, one day I was chatting with another kittypet of my sense of adventure. This kitty pet told me about cats in clans, where they lived in the forest, or swamps, or other places and ate mice and birds! This intrigued me so one day I went exploring. And I explored, and explored. And I accidentally lost where my twoleg den was! I was frightened and afraid. I climbed up a tree and waited to see if maybe my twolegs would come and find me, I didn't expect it but It was worth a chance. I waited for hours and they never came so I jumped down and looked for food. I knew I wouldn't get my kittypet food so I thought their might be a chance where I could catch mice or birds like the clan cats. So I went looking and in-" "When I become an apprentice I'm gonna catch the most mice and birds out of every cat in the clan!" A kit puffed out their chest. "What did I say about interrupting?" Badger asked amused. "Not too...Sorry Badger..." The kit apologized. "Now, Instead of finding a mice or bird I found a snake. I was frightened with fear and stood still, I was in complete shock. That nasty thing started slithering toward me and was gonna bite me, My senses kicked in and I bit it! I deeply regretted as the thing urinated and caused me to vomit. It didn't go without an fight I suppose. I ended up not eating that and looked for something else. I couldn't find anything so eventually I layed down in the grass and chose to sleep, little did I know that there was a cat who had found the snake I bit, and followed my kittypet scent to the grass. Do you know who that cat was?" Badger asked tilting his head. "Was it Storm'wisp?" "No I bet it was Brindle'star!" "Bingo. It was Brindle'star, Brindle'star was amazed that a kittypet could kill a snake without any training, and honestly I was too. I'm still not sure how I didn't end up with any injuries." He chuckled. "Brindle'star invited me to live with the clan and I accepted. While I do miss the pampering and my twolegs I enjoy the wild life. And its an amazing life. However, kittypet life was also quite good as I was well fed and given lots of treats and I was pampered and treated like a leader, I knew it wasn't the life for me." Badger finished. "Wow! That was such a intresting story!" One of the kits meowed their eyes sparkling with fascination. "I'm glad." Badger grinned.

Name: Zara > Snowbird
DGAB: DFAB | She/Her
Origin: Kittypet
Prompt:
Zara had a good life being a kittypet, a constant supply of fresh food and water, a warm place to sleep, and a home to where none of the outdoor elements could reach her. For a while, she did enjoy it...as it was pretty much all she knew, she had been born in a different twolegs' nest before being brought to the one she had called home. Though her memory wasn't the greatest, she could remember that she had always been surrounded by twolegs ever since she was born...but something deep within her being longed for something more, something that was beyond the world she had grown to call home. She longed for something she lacked in her calm and relaxed life.

She longed for freedom.

She is able to recall a story her mother would tell her quite often before bedtime, a story of cats who chose to live away from the twolegs and live out in the wilderness!
"Their lives are not at all easy," her mother would say, "they have to constantly hunt for food to feed themselves and their families, they have to defend their own territories from other cats and larger predatory creatures, they also have rules within their groups that must always be followed and failure of doing so can result in life-ruining events."
"But they are free...no twolegs to say what they can and can't do, no twolegs to say when they can and can't go outdoors, and no twolegs to have any form of control over them!" Zara would retort, despite how bad her mother made this life sound...she still held onto a curious urge to one day, experience that life for herself.
"You are a dreamer, little one..." her mother would purr in amusement as the young Zara would lay down beside her, her eyes drifting in and out of a sleepy consciousness. "...if it is meant to be that you embark on a life of that type, it will be so." She heard her mother purr as she'd gently nuzzle the top of her head. "But for now, just rest my dear."

It had been many moons now since she had last seen her mother, she was no longer a kit. She had grown into a confident and curious she-cat who for moons had lived her comfortable life with twolegs who truly loved and cared for her...but this feeling of wanting freedom just grew stronger and stronger as each day passed by. Until one night came when she couldn't take it anymore, she needed to be free once and for all...and now she was going to make that happen!

As Zara made her way through the house underneath the shadow of night, she wandered into an empty room that her twolegs used to store a variety of things. As she took a glance around the room something interesting caught her eye, a window had been left partly open! Without hesitation, she leapt up onto a couple of boxes near the window sill and scrambled up onto it. There was just enough space for her to slip out through the window...though the fall was really far down. She took a slow breath in, and then let it out just as slow...in a quick motion she slipped out from beneath the open window and went plummeting to the ground below!
Instinctively, her paws splayed out and her tail whirled as she found herself beginning to prepare to land on the rapidly approaching ground, with a small thud she landed! A bit shaken and sore in her forepaws, but safely!
She took one last glance up at the window she had snuck out of, the thought of abandoning her twolegs caused a small sadness to well up inside her...they were the nicest twolegs she had ever met, not at all cruel or mean to her, but kind and loving. Part of her yearned to stay and keep her easy life, but another part of her wanted to know more about this wild life some cats had decided to embark on.
It was then she realized she still had her collar on, the crown-shaped tag shimmered as she gently nudged it with her paw...she could read the words that were engraved into its surface, "Zara". Her name...the name given to her by her twolegs, it had been the only name she ever knew.
It was at that moment she decided she wouldn't discard her collar, rather she would keep it as a memory of the life she once had. It wasn't like she was leaving over a bad reason, she just wanted to know what real freedom felt like!
As she took a step forward, she noticed small, white flakes beginning to fall from the sky and onto the grass beneath her paws. It was already snowing, without hesitation, Zara took off into the dense woodland around her home as the snow continued to fall, leaving absolutely no trace of her paw prints as she continued deeper into the woods.

After a while, she came across a flock of gray and white birds...they jumped into the small snow piles that had begun to accumulate on the ground in places where the leaves didn't cover the sky. She couldn't help but smile at their antics, she heard her twolegs call these ones specifically were called Dark-eyed Juncos, or more simply; snow birds! They were birds who would only show up when the months of winter were approaching, unlike most birds who would migrate away from the colder weather, these little birds thrived in it!
She had always liked their name, after a time of watching the birds and thinking to herself, she decided a new name would help her embrace this new life she was now beginning...she decided to give herself the name Snowbird!
Not only did the name symbolize her love of the bird, but also their sense of freedom and spirit to go wherever they wanted to go! Bird truly were one of the freest animals she knew about, but her new name would also remind her of the season in which she started her journey, and in a way...this all still held a memory of her past life, which she came to accept as a good thing.

"You were right mom," she spoke softly as she turned her head up towards the sky, the stars above mixing with the falling snowflakes as she smiled. "it was meant to be!" With a new found determination, Snowbird raced off into the forest, a smile on her face as the flock of birds flew up and swiftly around her. She laughed and leapt up almost to their height! The cool air felt refreshing as it drifted through her thick fur, the knowledge of knowing she had all the time in the world now to do whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted!

Snowbird had finally found what she had been yearning for, she had found what the birds who flew around her had and thrived their entire lives in, now she had it to...and that thing?
That thing was true freedom!

Name: Serafina -> Oceanbreeze
DGAB: DFAB
Origin: Housecat
Prompt:
“Serafina, I’m going to leave this nature documentary on for you while I’m gone. See you later, kitty.”
Serafina LOVED the picture box. She could watch it all day… between naps. There were birds! Fish! She really wanted to see real fish. There were waterfalls, gardens, rainforests, mountains, hills, deserts! One day she would see them all for herself. But… not today. Probably not tomorrow, either. First, she would take a nap on her comfy pillow. Later, she would let the human brush through her fur and give her a yummy meal. Maybe she would just continue watching the picture box forever. Adventuring by herself would be lonely after all.
MEOWW! Meowww!
Serafina’s ears perked. She ran to the window. There was another cat out there next door, crying. She watched the cat until her own front door opened.
“Serafina! I’m home!”
Serafina ran to greet her human.
The next day, the other cat was still out there meowing sadly. As Serafina watched, another cat with a yellow ribbon approached and spoke to her. What were they saying? She couldn’t tell. Her human started brushing her fur out, so she lost interest in the strangers outside. She fell asleep in her human’s lap.
A week later, both cats were out there again. This time, her window was open.
“Please come with me. I’ll protect you. I promise,” meowed the second cat.
The first cat said something back, too quiet for Serafina to hear.
Here goes nothing! Seraphina jumped down from the window. “Where are you two going?” She asked.
The first cat practically dove to hide behind the second one. The second cat looked at her curiously. “We’re going to my clan. Do you want to join us?”
Serafina didn’t think an opportunity like this would fall into her lap again. “Yes, please.”

Name: Paol
DGAB: amab
Origin: Show cat
Prompt: Paol had never meant to end up without the comfort of air conditioning, indoor heating, frequently changed litterboxes, food practically on call, or frequent brushing. He had always done his best to be the cat his owners had bought and raised him to be- dignified, regal, a cuddler but not TOO cuddly, and gentle enough to be handled without getting angry at the judges. He knew that he'd sired a few litters and was quite content, happy with his life and the way it was going. Unfortunately, life finds perfect ways to mess up happy, painless existences. He doesn't know all the details, never spoke human after all, but he wasn't blind to how the cats around him slowly disappeared until it was just him and a couple other high-earners. It made him a little nervous, but not overly so- he was the top cat in the house. His owners changed up his deal one day though, and while they put him in his travel cage for a show they did not take him themselves. Instead they handed his cage over to a human who smelled very sharp and sickly. Paol was set into a van, one that carried several other cats, and the door behind him was shut. He figured he was on his way to another show- several cats said as much, that this was a public transport instead of a private one. What none of them expected was for the van to suddenly take a tumble, rolling and throwing cages and cats everywhere. Paol's cage popped open and in his fear he fled, leaving the van, human, and cats behind. He was assisted, luckily, by other cats, but he sorely misses the life that he once had.

Storage Link: the abandoned order
Name: Prince --> Steeldawn
DGAB: AMAB
Origin: previous cottage kitty (kittypet)
Prompt: Slinking through the garden, a fidgeting ball of delicious feathers darted to and fro as the tom sat crouching waiting for it to focus solely on it's breakfast of beetles and worms. Stomach gurgling quietly, he unsheathed his paws and prepared to leap, excited of the aspect of the hunt. Bunching his muscles as he prepared to intercept the bird's upwards escape, screams of people and loud booming noises scared the finch into flight, his hackles rising and fur twitching. The cottage had been his home since he was found hanging around the garden when he was a kit, his mother had left him for the kind older twoleg that lived there alone, knowing she would raise him well and pampered- it showed in the way his belly fur hung lower than the other loners he had come across before.

The sounds echoed over the stout brick walls that surrounded the garden. The small finch he had been stalking lifted was long gone, barely a speck against the wide scene of blue and lazily drifting clouds, undisturbed by the abnormally loud and sudden noises. Humans seemed to be distressed, wherever they were. Lifting himself over the top of the wall, he sat with his tail draped behind him, interested to see the cause of the noises and why he had never heard anything like it before. His human had been acting oddly these last few days, disappearing into the forest where the cottage faced now and returning many, many hours later. She always brought back metal cans of beans and bottled water- sometimes she even brought him a can of sardines or old cat food, things that the other humans must've left behind.

He kept her company when she was home, usually she spent her time sleeping or placing flat wood against the windows and even his cat door despite his protests. Lately, he had needed to climb the thick ivy growing along the walls to get to the attic and down stairs to the first floor. Ears flicking as the noises grew sharper, he shivered. Something was wrong- very wrong. Heart beat quickening, a sudden sense of doom shadowed him, his eyes reflecting the fading sunlight. Where was Ella? The elderly woman took a long time to return from her voyages, but it had been over two days since he had seen her. Bunching his muscles, the large tom leaped off the short brick wall and towards the looming forest that grew darker as the sun had begun to set, casting silhouettes of the towering oaks over him.

Shaking out his fur and the apprehension that lingered in his tense limbs, he stretched and carried on through the undergrowth, determined to greet his person when she would return. Ella would return, she would never leave him alone. She cared very deeply for her and he was her only company. They were each other's only company.

---

The sun disappeared behind him, tail dragging through the dirt and mulch as he continued through the forest, determination still lingering in his exhausted gaze. Although he liked to explore, the tom wasn't at all used to non-stop treks like this one. Sighing, he caught a sharp scent of rot and flesh, causing him to take a disgusted step back. In front of him, ferns covered the body of a long dead deer, sharp gashes in it's flank, tongue lolling as death still lingered in it's glassy eyes. It looked as if an animal ravaged it. Shaking, he took a step back slowly, who had done this? There were no predators for miles all around- he would've scented them if they were nearby. This deer was... His thoughts broke off as a almost human scent hit his nose sharply, whipped around and was greeted by a horrifying man covered in blisters and gaping wounds.

A mix if blood and frothy saliva formed a stream along the corner of his gaping maw, his eyes locked on him but seeming as though the human's mind was elsewhere, his eyes glassy and bloodshot. A sickening gurgling noise escaped its throat as it wandered closer to him, the young tom frozen in place as the horridly smelling creature staggered towards him. Was this the human that had sounded distressed earlier? A soft gasp escaped the tom as it inched closer, the creature perking somewhat upright and reaching out it's gritty, bruised hands towards him before lunging.

Squeezing his eyes shut, he prayed that Ella wouldn't worry about him. The claws of the humanly creature grazed him and it reached for it's prey. Except it didn't. Flicking his eyes open, a crashing sound alerted the prescence of another creature. No, Ella! The older woman was wrestling the half-dead human, pressing it to the ground and attempting to pull something out of her pocket, her pants torn and ragged as they scuffled. Still frozen in place, the older lady yowled at him, the only word he understood being "run" and his own name, the rest having been drowned out as the creature overpowered her and forced them rolling backwards into the undergrowth. Heart pumping wildly, the tom obeyed and leaped away, heart aching as he realized how cowardly he was running from the creature that was most likely mauling his person by now.

Veering far from the direction of the cottage, he sprinted away, the rickety house presumably falling behind him as he didn't stop. How could he have left her? Tears welled in his eyes as he heard another yowl of pain echoing through the trees before silence stretched, only the occasional boom coming from the city echoing through the valley as he broke through the thick oak trees. Muscles aching, he knew one thing to be true when he could no longer hear his person's howls.

His old life would never be real. Ella was dead.
