Context/CSK lore: all the collies live at one compound, with a number of individual kennels, group dog houses, playing & training fields, surrounded by forest. There's a cottage where the two owners live, however many collies get “borrowed” by others for events, walks, duties etc. or some even sneak out, hence why they're scattered all over the place in the story!

Sen wakes up with a throbbing pain in their head head. They hear a distorted voice that quickly clears into Hero. Ends up with the owner taking them to a rescue.

In the rescue they're miserable as they realise they can't remember what happened. They remembered being born on the ranch with special genes. Their mother died and their father had little interest in them. When Sen heard applications were being sent out for a new home, they decided to sneak out and try learn more about the genes they carried in case it was important. Memories after that were gone.

Trinket, who has three legs, was there too and trying to comfort them. Sen is feeling sorry for themself so lashes out and say no one will want either of them, they're both useless. Trinket flinches. But when humans say Sen's owners are coming to collect them, Sen says they want to escape to retrace their steps and memories. Trinket helps their escape, proving their leg doesn't stop them, even biting a metal lasso after Hero warned them if they act aggressive they can't go to their new home.

This makes Sen think if Trinket can do it, surely they can find their memories and be back to normal.

Running through the town, Sen ends up in a churchyard and meets Grimm. The collie knows directions but is busy, so Sen offers to help. Together, the collies carry bowls of kibble to the forest for an old lady who wants to feed the crows. As Sen places it they realise how hungry they are but resist the urge to eat. This turns out to be a good choice as a baby crow can't push through the flock and ends up with only a few bits of kibble, which wouldn't have been left if Sen had eaten.

Now with directions to their birth place, Sen turns to leave, but the sight of Grimm's markings bring on a memory of when they just left the ranch and stole food from Canyon, a starving stray.

Discouraged, Sen continues, hoping the other memories will prove they're a good collie. In a forest they see Celosia picking flowers. While they don't understand, they offer to help carry them to her friend, who turns out to he buried nearby. Sen sits quietly and respectfully with her while she grieves.

When they are about to leave, the dappled coat reminds them of how after escaping they ran into Sin carrying a flag. They asked countless questions and when the answers didn't make sense, they gave rude comments in return.

Hurt by the memory, Sen quickly excused themselves and followed the path. However the pain meds had started to wear off and they collapsed. They thought a ghost approached them but it was just a collie, Spirit, who offered help. Sen hesitantly accepted on the condition no humans were involved. Spirit took Sen to his adopted daughter, Aki that knew healing plants. Sen grew suspicious and thought they wanted to poison them, but saw Aki was just concerned so accepted the help.

When leaving, feeling better, they remembered when Pandemonium had tried to help them but they didn't trust her not to involve humans despite her claims, resulting in them backing away and falling in a river. Further down Ari tried to lift Sen out by the scruff, but when realising the two knew each other Sen grew suspicious and struggled, causing the other collie to let go and almost fall in.

Back in the present Sen is walking along the edge of a path, not sure they even wanted to continue their adventure. Suddenly Pebblit pounced out the bushes, knocking them over. Realising she was just a young pup they were friendly. Sonder approached, saying she was trying to take the pup back to her mother but she was easily distracted. When Pebblit said "He should come with us!" Sen explained they go by "They". Procrastinating their quest, Sen followed the pair. Pebblit asked why Sen wasn't a male, and Sen almost got angry, but took a deep breath and explained how the wrong pronouns made it feel like a burr was caught in their pelt. Sonder thanked Sen for being understanding, and Pebblit explained she was too nervous to ask other non-binary collies because she didn't want to seem stupid. When the trio finally came close to her mother, Pebblit darted off. Sonder thanked Sen and followed.

As Sen watched them go, her white markings seemed to morph into a memory. After climbing out the river they found Oreo, seeing his black swirls and thinking of the stained harlequin gene they carried. Remembering why they left they asked. Being an older collie, Oreo spoke slowly and Sen soon grew frustrated. When the conversation didn't go how they wanted, they stormed off.

Irritated at the way they behaved, Sen thought they must be a terrible dog. Dragging their paws back to the trial they were following, they heard a collie whining. Deciding that was better than their quest they went to investigate. Arreta had lost his mate, Droplet. While Sen helped him look, three mean dogs with evil eyes spotted them. Arreta said if they make it through a hole in the fence their chains should catch, so Sen ran. Almost there, Aretta tripped. Knowing they wouldn't make it back in time Sen sped up, before bouncing off the fence and running back with the momentum. They jumped into the lead dog, knocking it over while Arreta stood up. Sen failed to avoid a bite, teeth scraping their shoulder, but the pair made it to safety. Scenting his mate, Sen followed, tired.

But when they looked up at Droplet they were plunged into a memory. They hide beside Drizzle under a bin, trying to escape a human catching dogs. The rain kept dripping on their back so Sen shivered, giving away their position. As the human swung the catching pole, Drizzle barged them out the way, getting caught in the process. She looked scared and needed help, but Sen ran away claiming it was better at least one of them escape.

Realising how similar Droplet looked Sen thought they must be siblings and panicked, running away. They hated themselves. Soon they spotted the river from their memory and realised they must be almost home, giving them mixed feelings. As they followed the river they saw Tripod drowning. While scared of the river after their own accident, Sen still jumped in, trying to boost him to the bank and teach him to swim despite not knowing themself how. Growing tired and not making much progress they thought they would both drown until Link leaped in and guided them both to safety.

Tripod thanked Sen for saving them but Sen said it was all Link. Link seemed to disagree and Tripod said they wouldn't have lasted that long without Sen. Realising it was dark, they left Link to look after Tripod and began walking home. While walking they thought about how unique Link's black markings were, which brought on another memory.

At the edge of a dark forest Sen hesitated going in, pups at the ranch having told them wolves might still live there. When they heard someone in need of help they trotted over, but Noxious looked so much like a wolf Sen turned tail and fled, ignoring their claims of being a collie.

In the present Sen angrily called themself a coward. Distraught, they let their paws carry them home, where they lay there and didn't eat much or do anything. A few days later a scent they recognised but couldn't place made them look up in interest. When they saw a new human, they got bored and lay down. The next day the smell was stronger, and Sen walked over to inspect a leash. They let the human lead them into a car.

Arriving at the Kennel, they got our the car and the human said they wanted Senomoide to meet someone. The new name was strange. When the human said "Trinket", Sen was filled with confusing emotions, trying to remember who that was.

When they saw Trinket it all flooded back. Sen rushed up to them, crying out and apology which Trinket accepted without hesitation. They thank Trinket, saying they really helped them be positive. Yet they haven't got all their memories back and feel lost and like a failure. Especially with what their memories revealed: "I'm a horrible collie! I steal, I'm rude, I think the worst of everyone, I'm impatient, I abandon others, and I'm a coward!”

Trinket says it doesn't matter if they feel whole or not, gesture to their missing leg, as some memories is enough, like their three legs. Plus, what matters is their current and future actions, as they were just a pup before. They say they've heard Sen is a good dog. Turning around Sen sees Grimm, Celosia, Spirit and Aki, Sonder, Arreta, and Link. They all say Sen is generous, understanding, trusting, tolerant, loyal, and courageous.

Coming to stand beside the collie, Trinket wrapped their tail over their back. “You can't change what you did in the past when you were a pup. But you can decide how you behave now you're older and wiser. Sen, now is your chance to be whoever you want.”

Tears filling their eyes, Sen felt as if their heart might burst.

“Then I choose to be Senomoide.”

Prologue

Trinket has practically adopted Senomoide and Tripod, who is now like a brother. With their support, Senomoide apologised to the collies they had wronged, surprised how easily they forgave. They were content to ignore their missing memories and focus on making new ones.

However, a new collie turns up and recognises them.

“It's you,” the new addition whispered.

A sea of eyes turned towards them, and Sen hesitantly stepped forward, digging to try and remember this collie.

“Do I know you?”

“You saved my life, I thought that car killed you!”

EXPLINATION

Each scene with a connecting memory links to the hidden genes of the collie and a personality trait they learnt through their actions, in order. Trinket represents the edits they carry along with the theme of family. Overall, the milestone is Sen accepting their situation, growing from selfish pup to empathetic young adult, and finding their family and home.
The ending is a bit of a "to be continued" which I will develop if I win them and get the perfect collie to be their mate!

Astro's Story:

Astro didn't always have the life he has now; he came from humble beginnings, to say the least. He was just a pup when he and his siblings were dropped off in a cardboard box on the side of the road. At only about a week old, their eyes hadn't even opened yet. They were helpless, squirming, and desperately snuggling each other for warmth. Fortunately, a kind-hearted person noticed the box and pulled over, prepared for the worst. The puppies were scooped up and rushed to the local animal shelter, where they received exams from the veterinarian. All five pups were still healthy at that point, but their condition could decline rapidly if action wasn't taken right away. Luckily, one of the sweet dogs at the shelter happened to have her own litter of Golden Retriever puppies and was still nursing. The mother, named Daisy, accepted the innocent puppies as her own.

Life wasn't all that bad growing up in the shelter. Astro was warm, safe, and never hungry. The most difficult part was seeing his siblings get adopted; it was bittersweet. He knew it was for the best, and he was happy for them, but he couldn't shake the feeling that he wouldn't be as successful as they were. One by one, the precious pups with wiggly tails went off to their new homes, but Astro didn't get picked. Daisy always tried to cheer him up by telling him, "It's taking a little longer because the universe is making sure it's the perfect home for you," but her words only helped so much.

Daisy and Astro had both been at the shelter for about a year at this point; Daisy had come in right before he did. He didn't give up hope; he knew that one day he would finally know what it was like to be in a warm home with unconditional love. The shelter workers were kind to him and all the other dogs, but it just wasn't the same. Astro spent his days watching the birds; he was fascinated by watching the babies take their first flights (or attempts at flying). He’d contemplate how one day he would spread his wings and fly.

It was a bright summer day when Astro, Daisy, and a handful of other dogs were playing in the yard. Astro could sense that something was different about this day, but he couldn't pinpoint what. He pranced over to the far end of the fence, where he could take some time to meditate, alone and without distractions. A deep breath in, and a deep breath out. Thoughts would flow into his mind and gently be pushed away. Astro loved to meditate; he couldn't control the things happening around him, but he found solace in being able to control his own mind. He would imagine himself surrounded by loved ones and hope that it would manifest.

Time for dinner! Back into the building they went, tails wagging. After finishing his dinner, Astro curled up on his bed, drifting off to sleep. Footsteps approached, and Astro's ears perked up, eager to find out who it was. A tall woman with gentle eyes and long golden hair was staring right at him, standing closely next to one of the shelter workers. "Hi there, honey, my name is Iris," she said with a soft voice and a smile on her face. Astro poked his nose up against the bars as she offered her hand for him to sniff. She smelled like fresh apple pie, and Astro started to lick at her fingers, causing her to let out a giggle. "This is the one!" Iris exclaimed. "Is this really happening?! Am I really going to have my own family?!" Astro barked with excitement. As he walked past the other kennels toward the front door, he stopped in front of Daisy's kennel. There was no way he could leave her; she was all the family he ever knew. Daisy was the first to show him what love was.

Iris, Astro's new owner-to-be, gently tugged at the leash, prompting Astro to keep going. The shelter employee explained to her that Daisy, the Golden Retriever with the kind face, had taken Astro in when he first arrived and raised him as her own. Iris thought for a minute; surely, there was room in her home for another furry friend. Up and into the car the two pooches went, eager for what the future held. Astro was so happy he didn't have to leave Daisy behind and wasn't sure if he could, even if he had to. Things couldn't have ended better for the two special dogs, but it took a lot of fortitude to get where they are today. Daisy, the matriarch, often spends her time keeping an eye on all the little ones around the farm and ensuring they get all the care they need. Her story is for another day, but now she finally has what she dreamed of as well. Astro still loves to nature-watch, and now he has the most glorious view of the stars. When night falls, he sits on the porch and stares up at the stars, reflecting on everything he is thankful for. When he's ready, he goes back inside with his new best friend, a little human named Sophie, and plays with her until they both fall asleep.

Astro has learned a lot in life, but most of all, he learned to never give up hope. He was resilient, even though some days were more challenging than others. He always has faith that everything will align as it should, even if it takes a bit longer than he'd like it to.
