backstory:
Sol Oppelion was born into the highest house of the Binary Stars: The Wind Walkers. His fate was sealed from the moment of his birth; the first crystalline heir in over a thousand years. Great care was taken to raise him in the traditions of the system: the songs, poems, constellations, and garb of their people. It all came easily to him, almost as if he already understood it deep within his soul. His mentors and teachers loved him dearly, and his youthful fascination with the world brought joy and sadness to their hearts. For they knew these moments would not last forever.

When he was old enough, his lessons started to change. Sol Oppelion started to study the stars in new ways. He learned of the sun drives that allowed his ancestors to use solar winds to leave their home planet. He studied star charts that stretched out for hundreds and thousands of blinks from where he stood. Standing on the moon orbiting his beloved home planet, Sol Oppelion learned just how small he was compared to the vast system just outside his front door.

Pressure grew as he started to learn of his true purpose. His only goal in life. The destiny he was born for. The legends of his species were true, and great celestial beings had indeed brought them into existence thousands of years ago.

Long ago, far back in the times of ancient legend, two beings called Wind Walkers met in the black nothingness of space. They were beings of pure starlight, bound together in a love that ignited. When the dust settled, the two beings had created life. A new sun system shone brightly in Binary Stars, forever home in each other's arms. His species was born here, the Marumi. As they grew and evolved the Marumi learned of their creation. They told their stories in poem and song, preserving a living memory of the beginning.

Every few centuries, a unique Marumi was born into the family of the original Wind Walkers. Possessing a crystalline heart of pure starlight, the Crystalline Heir possesses the unique ability to travel the solar winds. They are gifted with this ability in order to find others of their kind out among the stars. A true pairing must be found if the birth of another binary system is to ever occur.

The day finally came when Sol Oppelion of House Wind Walker was of age to begin his final journey. He felt the weight of responsibility on his shoulders, as the lives of infinite species and planets rested on his shaking shoulders. This journey would be his first and his last, and it would not end until he fulfilled his duty. He would never see his planet again, cradled in the loving arms of his ancestors.

The crowd looked on, watching their beloved heir step up into his solar craft. He turned back to face them, a bright smile on his face.

“I’ll remember you!”

backstory:
"You are hereby banished to a mortal life," the decree echoed through the chamber.
What once was a place of beauty and wonder for the guide of golden hearts, was now cold and empty. Despite the glittering stars and shifting galaxies that adorned the walls, it was dark and full of deceit. The beauty just a facade.
"Your decree is unfair! Where is my trial?!" Denitsa demanded.
"NO TRIAL IS NEEDED FOR A TRAITOR!" another screeched.
The large celestial being, a literal galaxy personified, sat upon the center seat, his eyes like voids never leaving her as he raised a hand for silence. The other, a small celestial being that appeared to literally be made of emerald, shut his mouth. Around the room were beings of all shapes and sizes and colors, the guardians of the universe who kept the balance.
"I am no traitor! I did not break the law."
"Then explain."
The request was a calm one, eerily so in the room simmering with rage.
"The soul was that of a pure heart, a golden one. A mistake had been made and they ended up in the wrong place. I only went there to retrieve what was mine, not upset the order but set it right."
"And yet the soul perished in its journey."
Denitsa's eyes widened.
"They were just find when I led them to the gate. Last I saw that soul they had an aura of joy as they made their way into their next life."
"LIAR!" a wisp of darkness boomed.
The Guide of the Void, angry, could no longer hold back. Coming forward he presented sparkling shards for all to see, the colors awfully familiar. A shattered soul orb, the light faded away. It was the soul she had guided.
"How..."
"You know how," he growled in her face.
"Enough!"
At the command of the one who ruled them, the Guide of the Void dropped the shards before her and returned to his place. Eyes filled with malice and a hint of something else.
"We have the proof of another story. From this day forward you shall be tripped from your role as Guide of Golden Hearted, and made mortal. You'll live out the rest of your days in the world of your choosing. I will give you that much for your hard and diligent work."
"Please, I did not do this..."
"The proof speaks otherwise... I'm sorry."
As she opened her mouth to protest the star in his chest began to brighten and engulf the room.

Awakening, the Guide of Golden Hearts now found herself in a strange body. Long and furred, she bore a brown pelt and long tail. Fours legs were proving hard to control as she only ever floated before, no limbs to be seen. It was clear though that not all her celestial powers had been stripped, for the gold marks of her pelt and golden halo above her head proved as much.
Today, she'd start her new life.

when the first flower wilted under my touch, the village called me cursed.

"do not worry, my dearest daughter.
life and death come to everything and everyone,
some sooner than others."

when they too wilted before my eyes, there was nobody left to offer me their assurances.
so i held onto myself and blamed those who despised my existence.

as the rivers ran grey and my village starved, they bore their fangs of fear and snarled hatred towards me.
"you destroy everything you touch, girl"

my tears had run dry, and i replied to them simply,
"so i do."

...

i have everything in the world.

armies fall and kingdoms wither before me,
“yet those fine meadows and beautiful orchards spite me.”

so upon their remnants i built my empire. gold, jewels, bronze, and glass.
i laid foundations of stone and precious metals, adorned with gems and endless wealth.

these thorns will pierce the hearts of the ones who hate me, because their words and hatred hurt me
these thorns will keep my enemies at bay, because their withering away will sadden me
these thorns will gather around my own heart,

because everything in this palace is dead because of me.

for what good was a field of flowers i lay to waste

what good were my emotions fragile, so easily withered under a single scathing look?

i blamed everyone and everything, all of it, except for myself.

...

until there are no more birds in the sky.

until there are no more fields to speak of.

until the stars, moon, and the rock that we call our world are the last ones who can lay judgement upon me,


the iron maiden guards with thorns the glass heart she so dearly despises, and awaits the passing of time.
