Quickly approaching her side, Crowcloud silently examined her physical state and felt his heart drop as he realized they were symptoms he recognized in some of the other cats he noticed were falling ill. As he leaned back from the sickly she-cat, Gorsestar's flanks came to a sudden halt - she lost her first life. Crowcloud gulped, fervently praying to StarClan that her death wasn't an omen of worse things to come as he waited for her to wake up from her healing trance...

the path to our Court."

Promisedrose greeted the Court of Blossoms in a part of the garden still overgrown. She'd requested the rest of the
Court leave it that way, so that she and Lotusseed would have a place to speak with the spirits if need be. As for
the rest of the camp, they'd finished moving out the last of the debris, and were now working on making the dens
into something more livable. There wasn't enough space to have a "dedicated" knights den, for either rank really,
once they began to grow. But there was more than enough space to set aside dens of at least ten cats or so each,
and with the seeds they had on hand, they would be able to start expanding the garden come spring. This of course
still left them with the rest of the cold season, with winter readily approaching, but like many flowers, though
the Court might face some hardships, they would spring forth from the snow anew once the warm season began
again.

"I beseech you," Promisedrose continued, eyes closed and her head lowered. "in the name of Evos, Dreon, and Xuen."

Promisedrose remained crouched for several beats after her prayer finished, letting the wind ruffle through her
fur for several minutes.

Finally, she opened her eyes and rose to her paws. Zinnia and Shamrock were both taking their assessments later
that afternoon, and she wanted to go over the task list with Peonystem and Dustystep again.

with a gasp, the tom startled awake, unexpectedly ripped from the deep sleep he’d found himself in. blinking, he took a deep breath, waiting for his pounding heart to calm. he was still curled up in the hollow underneath the thick branches of the tree he’d slipped into for shelter for the night. his ears twitched, the sound of softly falling rain reaching him as he came to his senses.

but he could’ve sworn he heard the whisper of his name.

slowly, he got to his paws, shaking out his fur. after a moment he slipped out of the hollow, his thick fur brushing against the tree branches as he crawled out. he expected to see the forest around him when he emerged - but the forest wasn't there. at least, not his forest. this one was different. the sound of rain was muted and soft, as if it were in the back of his mind, but no rain hit his pelt. and even that sound was fading.

"shade." turning around at the sound of his voice, the tree he had slept in and woken up in (or so he'd thought) was no longer there. instead, a molly stood only a few paces away from him, starlight glittering in her fur and at the tips of her ears and gathering around her paws. her expression was gently amused. her voice was familiar, though...

his mother, who'd passed moons ago. he must be dreaming. or going crazy. or both.

speechless, he could only stare at her. "shade." she repeated, gently. "do not be afraid. i'm here because you have been chosen."

"chosen?" he repeated, incredulous. "what...what's going on?"

his mother nodded. "you've been chosen to become the next rex imperius of kosmos. you were born it's crown prince. your father...i never told you of him. but he was rex before you. before you were born, kosmos was my home...but now, there's no one left...and we need you to rebuild it. i know it's a lot...but we will be there to guide you on your path. you will be known as shadestar...and you will lead kosmos to even greater heights."

• the couple spend most of the day with their kits before waspsting inevitably has to leave to return to his clan duties.

• roachtrack and heartfern spend time getting to know each other more. palmettowing watches the pair closely, muttering to morningcloud every once in a while about how they acted together.
• heartfern brings up wanting to become official mates with roachtrack, wanting to birth another litter soon.
• roachtrack stutters nervously, reminding the she-cat that they still don't know each other well enough for him to feel comfortable with an official mateship. he reminds her that her daughter, hive, still hasn't left the nursery anyway.
• the lantern drops the subject, but reminds herself to bring it up again once hive becomes a gang.

• ratglare and briewhisker decide to take their apprentices out together, making a competition out of who was the better mentor.
• widowbite and guccifrost decide to tag along, finding amusement in the antics between the always fighting pair. the two warriors and gangs watch ratglare and briewhisker bicker and argue the entire training session, snickering in amusement.
• widow and gucci go off on their own to speak in private. when the pair finally return to camp, it's as mates.

LEAF-FALL || The temperature has begun to drop, and the days grow shorter and shorter. With the disappearance of the unbearable heat, predators are more commonly slinking along the outskirts of the territory. Alongside the growing dangers that come with the cold weather, kittings are beginning to get harder. Clans should stock up on prey and herbs for the coming dangerous moons, as this will be their last chance until after the next season has passed.

Foraging:

• As the moons pass, the weather begins turning colder. Weasel's patrol lasts much longer than it typically does, and they return with 1 stinging nettle, 1 mouse bile, 1 fennel, 1 marigold, 1 catmint, and 1 chickweed.

Assessments:

• The cooler air seems to bolster Acidpaw's energy, lending her the strength to pass her assessment with flying colors. As she returns to camp, several acrobats wait near the entrance to congratulate her.

Border Patrols:

• Pesterchum's patrol is brought to an early end when Arsenalarrow begins limping. The tom tries to hide his discomfort, but the patrol leader knows better and orders the entire patrol to turn around and return to camp so that he can be checked out by the tamers. After a quick exam, Weasel determines that Arsenalarrow's paw pads have cracked due to the sudden change to colder weather. After a quick discussion on how to prevent it from happening again in the future, Arsenalarrow is told he needs 1 moon of rest or 1 dock to get back to normal.
• Boarback's patrol seems to spend the entire day wandering in meaningless circles. By the time the youngest cats on patrol begin complaining, Boarback is bored enough to declare they can return to camp.
• Lysol's patrol had barely left the camp before catching the scent of a stranger. They chose to immediately investigate, following the trail until they found an adult cat curled up asleep at the base of a tree. The patrol fanned out behind Lysol as the patrol leader reached out with a gentle paw to tap the stranger. The cat leapt to their paws instantly, startled with fur on end. As they realized they were surrounded, they backed against the tree to try and keep every cat in their line of sight. After a long, slow conversation, the cat agrees to return with Lysol to KeyClan's camp and meet with the ringmaster.

• Knitsweater's patrol returns to camp alongside Boarback's, the two having crossed paths on the way back. They also report that nothing of interest was happening out in the territory.
• Pigsnort's patrol comes across an adult cat hanging out just across the border. They claim to be a lost kittypet, having been separated from their twoleg before learning of a group of cats living out in the wild. The patrol decides to take the stranger back to camp, showing them KeyClan's hospitality while they decided whether or not to allow them to stay.

• Toast's patrol returns to camp after spending the entire day tracking the looping and winding scent trail of a badger. Despite having tracked it to where it left the territory, they immediately reported the finding to Cypressstar. Better safe than sorry in Toast's opinion.

Hunting:

• Blueflame's patrol returns with 2 squirrels, 1 hare, and 1 frog.

• Flashpaw heard the snapping of branches and dropped into a hunting crouch, just like he had been taught. As he crept forward, the crashing grew louder until a badger burst through the undergrowth. He remembered hearing a warning before leaving, so he turned and ran. While trying to climb the nearest tree, the badger slammed into him. The juggler let out a scream as he felt his front paw snap, but he was able to drag himself up to the lowest branch and wait until the badger trundled off with a snort. Gingerly keeping pressure off of his injured paw, he made it back to camp and into Weasel's care. The tamer immediately identified the injury as a break, and she prescribed 2 moons of rest[b], [b]1 willow bark, 1 burnet, and 1 broom.
• Toothbrush snapped his jaws shut against the spine of a squirrel, swiftly adding it to the fresh-kill pile. By the time she made it back to camp, her jaw was beginning to ache. Weasel instantly spotted one of her back teeth had a chip in it, causing the pain. After contemplating, she decides that Toothbrush needs 1 moon of rest or 1 alder bark.

• Eggshell's patrol returns with 1 mouse, 1 small fish, 1 bat, 2 ermines, 1 snake, and 1 rat.
• Yellowbrick's patrol returns with 1 small fish, 2 hares, 1 frog, 1 mouse, and 1 squirrel.
• Zinikezelwe's patrol returns with 1 pigeon, 1 rat, 2 big fish, 1 duck, and 2 snakes.
• Khokela's patrol returns with 1 bat, 2 mice, 1 rat, 1 duck, and 1 ermine.
• Cypressstar's patrol returns with 3 snakes, 1 frog, and 1 small fish.

• Carcat begins shivering violently during the patrol, so she is escorted to Weasel to be examined. The tamer determines she's just caught a chill and will need 1 moon of rest or 1 feverfew.
• Bonetrousle limped back into camp after stepped on a sharp rock, his pad bleeding from a nasty laceration. Weasel quickly decides he will need 1 moon of rest and 1 stinging nettle.
• Tailwind crept along a thin branch, belly growling as he watched the squirrel obliviously chewing on an acorn. As he leapt, the branch snapped beneath him. The wind rushed against him as he plummeted, body slamming into branches until he eventually came to a stop on the ground. The wind was knocked out of him, and his patrolmates forced him to remain still until Weasel made it out to check him over. Eventually, he was helped back to camp and instructed that he will need 2 moons of rest, 1 stinging nettle, and 1 daisy leaf. He was also scolded by Cypressstar for so recklessly climbing among the thinner branches.

• Maybelline's patrol returns with 2 rabbits, 1 hawk, 1 small fish, 1 snake, and 1 rat.

Training:

• Flashpaw fails to learn a skill this moon, his broken paw preventing him from doing much.
• Grimpaw succeeds in learning a new skill this moon.
• Snowpaw fails to learn a new skill this moon.

• Snowpaw's training session is brought to a halt when the molly starts coughing. Out of an abundance of caution, Chalkdust marches her juggler to Weasel's den where she is promptly diagnosed with whitecough. Snowpaw will need 1 moon of rest and 1 chickweed.

• Soulpaw succeeds in learning a new skill this moon.
• Strawberrypaw fails to learn a new skill this moon.

• Masonpaw, while chasing after a mouse, shot straight off the edge of a steep bank. The juggler rolled all the way down until she slammed into a tree trunk. After being checked out by Weasel, it is decided she needs 3 moons of rest, 1 dandelion, and 1 lamb's ear to handle her ribs that ached every time she breathed or moved.

• As Spiderpaw's training session came to an end, a rat darted out from a rotten long, teeth gnashing. Catching the juggler unaware, it managed to sink its teeth into Spiderpaw's leg before Koiblaze leapt on top of it and killed it. Weasel decides Spiderpaw will need 2 moons of rest, 1 burdock root, and 1 cobweb due to how dirty rat bites can be.

• Lemonpaw plummeted from the tree she had climbed, twisting in air to land on her paws. As she hit the ground, her hind leg buckled and snapped. She screamed as she hit the ground, twisting to try and fight off the pain that was near to overwhelming her. Cocoagleam fought to keep the juggler calm, eventually lifting her and allowing her to lean on her so that she didn't have to lower her injured leg. After Weasel's thorough exam, it is determined that Lemonpaw has broken the bone in her thigh and will need plenty of time to recover. She will need 2 moons of rest, 1 comfrey root, 1 daisy leaf, and 1 broom.

Mallowburn hurried back into camp with the rest of his border patrol, his face somber. He motioned for his patrol to go with the rest of their clanmates while he made his way towards the high rock by Wolfstar’s den. He dipped his head in respect to the smoky tom, “I don’t exactly have the best news from our patrol,” the deputy started his report.

“Is it urgent?” Wolfstar slipped his question in, his tail flicking and alert.

“Not completely, but we need to keep our attention to the border. We scented a dog, and from the waste it left, it’s a big one.” The curly tom reported.

Wolfstar seemed to be in thought for a second before he nodded, “Until we know more about this dog, keep apprentices off border patrols,” He started, looking towards Mangopaw who seemed spooked still from the patrol, “And I want a warrior patrolling near camp at all times, in case they slip past our borders.”

Mallowburn nodded, looking towards the kits, “Duskleap needs to keep all the kits near the nursery, there’s too many of them to allow them to stray too far.”

“Good idea, she’s strong too, I know she will keep all the kits safe.” Wolfstar complimented, flicking his tail for Mallowburn to stay for a moment. “Let all those honored to serve this clan gather around!” The leader called out to the clan. The warriors and apprentices gathered around their leader, with the kits watching intently from the nursery. “We have noticed a dog along our borders, as the patrol has just reported. We don’t know much about this dog, but we can’t be too cautious. Anyone leaving camp must be accompanied by another warrior, especially any apprentices. Kits are to stay close to the nursery, not exceptions.” He ordered. Mallowburn nodded in agreement, looking towards his own two kits by the nursery.

The clan’s elder stood, addressing the clan as well, “I can help keep guard of the nursery. I may be a bit old, but I can still pull my own weight around here.” Turtlefur added in, stubbornly.

Wolfstar eyed the elder, “We would be honored to have your help.” He dipped his head, flicking his tail to dismiss the clan meeting.

Mangopaw kept her eyes along the trees surrounding them, waiting for a dog to pop out from any of the trees or bushes that scattered the pine forest. She had never seen a dog herself, but what Turtlefur had described to her was nightmare inducing.

“This should be a fine spot.” Stonegaze stopped in front of three pine trees clustered together. “We’re going to hone your climbing skills, specifically for getting up trees.”

“Don’t we need to learn how to fight? There’s a dog loose, and we’ve gotta hunt ‘em down!” Lynxpaw chimes in, his fur bristling as he takes a solid stance with his chest puffed out. Mangopaw held back a giggle, still seeing the younger apprentice as another kit in the clan.

Stonegaze glared down the young tom, his gaze quickly silencing the adolescence.

Cowtail took a breath, looking at each of the apprentices. “Dogs are no easy enemy. Our main concern is keeping the clan safe, rather than the glory of a kill.” The black and white tom explained, his tone even. “Climbing will be a great skill if you are ever being chased.”

“You’ll be able to live long enough to pass your warrior assessments.” Stonegaze cut in grimly.

Mangopaw, already used to the sharp tongue of warriors, wasn't fazed much by the harsh words. However, as she looked at the younger two, she could see how rattled they were. She looked to Pebblebounce, who seemed to be noticing the same.

“How about a bit of friendly competition?” The gray warrior cut in, his tail flicking in a playful manner.

Otterpaw smiled wide, “Last one up has to change all of our beddings?” With a nod in agreement from Mangopaw and Lynxpaw, the apprentices’ morale was back up.

Stonegaze, seemingly ignoring the childish bet between the three, continued on with his training. “A skillful climber needs to rely on not only their own strength, but your claws as well.” He held out his paw towards the tree, “You must curl your claws and dig them into the bark. Be sure to watch out for any loose bark, or else you’ll lose your footing and it’ll be a far drop.”

Pebblepouce approached a tree as well, digging both his front claws in. “You’ll wanna rely on your back legs to hoist yourself up, almost like you’re kicking yourself into the air and catching the tree before you start falling.” The lithe tom started leaping up the tree, catching his front claws into the tree and pulling himself higher. He motioned with his tail for the three apprentices to follow.

Mangopaw took the lead, catching on pretty quickly with her stronger hind legs.Otterpaw joined quickly, Lynxpaw trailing behind. The three made their way up the trees, Lynxpaw making it to the top last. The three raced their way back down, Mangopaw taking a second to peek over at Lynxpaw, who was obviously frustrated.

“Dang it! Even a mouse could’ve beat me!” Lynxpaw blurted.

Stonegaze took a few steps towards his apprentice, his annoyance written on his face. “A sore loser makes for a sore warrior, Lynx.” He stated sternly. Lynxpaw flicked his ears back in embarrassment, keeping his head low. Stonegaze looked back to the rest of the group, “Let’s head back to camp before patrols start, I’m sure you’ll all be on one.” He turned to leave and led the training group back to camp.

Mangopaw trotted next to Lynxpaw in the back. “I’ll help you out today with our bedding, I don’t have much to do tonight.” She offered, seeing a small smile light up the tom’s face.

season: leaf-fall / autumn
as summer gives way to colder weather, your clans can expect to see a decrease in prey and an increase
in danger. predators may become more desperate during this time. while the likelihood of dehydration
goes down, cats who aren't careful on patrols might face more serious risks. inside the camp, medicine
cats will find less herbs and kittings will become more difficult. cats who go out on too many patrols
will also face possible illnesses, as well.

general notes:
• i recommend noting if there are any cats that you'd prefer be skipped over in the case of death rolls/injuries

• louis led the way through the territory, pausing often to listen and smell for any signs of the dog. as they reached the last known location of the dog, they heard a low growling. the four cats pressed their backs together, forming a circle so that they could not be snuck up on. the dog stalked out from the undergrowth, lips peeled back as it snarled. it darted in, but it jumped back with a yelp when waspsting raked his claws across the dog's nose. the dog circled them, looking for any weakness that it might take advantage of. each cat's fur bristled, tails bushed out as they whipped their heads around so as not to lose sight of the dangerous predator. after what seemed like forever, the stalemate broke. the dog darted in, quick as lightning, jaws snapping at hornetwing's legs. the patrol jumped to their friend's aid, but it was too late. the dog's teeth sank into hornetwing's paw, and the tom was knocked to his side and dragged toward the undergrowth. the tom screamed for help, but terror had stopped the other three as they watched the inevitable unfold. they trudged back to camp, only tufts of hornetwing's fur in their jaws as they carried the news to roachtrack.
