Nyx watched as Adrienne skilfully manoeuvred around the pumpkin, easily carving out parts of it.
“Honestly…it’s the same as you. They always say the eyes are the window to the soul. You can tell how someone is feeling just by looking at their eyes. Whether they’re happy, sad or even lying, their eyes are the most honest part of the body. You just gotta know how to look at it. Sometimes when someone tries to hide that they’re sad and fake a smile, you’ll notice that the smile never reaches their eyes and that the eyes look somewhat duller. This is a bit of a sad turn but I realised this only because of my grandma. Despite her age and health, she was always full of life which was very clear in her eyes. The way her eyes shone and lit up when she saw us or even when seeing her favourite food is beautiful. But when she knew her time was coming, she would do her best to hide her sadness with a smile but the difference is obvious.”

Bliss stared in awe at Pinkalicious, mouth agape.
"Oh... oh my goodness... Stop it right now!" She lifted up the pumpkin and wrapped her arms around Pinkie in a big hug.
"She's just the most, like, perfect thing in the whole world to me right now!! First impressions are everything and she's definitely left hers!" She huffs as she struggles to put the pumpkin down gently.
"I'm a pretty easy to please kind of person... Colours catch my eyes before anything else, so I'll probably notice whatever about a person is the most colourful," Bliss rambles, admiring her pink pumpkin for a while.
"A great outfit is probably, like, first on that list, but if someone has some incredible hair that might take the cake. I think that how you present yourself is one of the easiest ways to tell people who you are," she continues, gesturing to her lovely bright blue dress to prove her point a little more.
"Not to mention everyone expresses themselves through their wardrobe, that's just like... a fact."

Buttercup shrieks with joy at the pumpkin gifted to her, a huge grin spreading across her face. “Thank you so much! It’s perfect!” She stretches her arms out, twisting them left and right, back and forward, examining this pumpkin, Bruce. “Absolute perfection.” She brings it back in, trying to also reign in her excitement over a silly pumpkin. But she couldn’t help feel her little heart leap with joy that this was picked out just for her. And she loved it.
She gazes at Adrienne and she ponders a way to respond. While yes, there were always physical attributes she noticed in someone, there are always internal things she notices as well.
“I think I’d like to say the first thing I notice about someone is how they speak. Not language, or pronunciation, but to people, things, children, themselves. What they say in the highs and lows of big emotions. Is that too vague?”

Spook graciously took the pumpkin from Adrienne. “Ole Faithful, you say,” she mumbled to herself as she rubbing the pumpkin, ‘so smooth’. As Adrienne talked about carving the pumpkin Spook started to frown. “Do you think it will hurt him,” she looked down at the pumpkin and patted its side as if she were comforting it.

“Nope! I’ll be super quick and then your friend will have a face!” Adrienne boasted.

“Well if it wont hurt, I guess I wouldnt mind a face..” she grumbled and handed the pumpkin back to Adrienne”

“Ah not so quick!” Adrienne chuckled, “first you must tell me about the first thing you notice about someone or perhaps someone that really stuck out to you?

Spook sighed, “really..?” Spook wasn’t entirely sure what she noticed first. Was it their voice and how they held themselves while talking? Perhaps it was an accent or maybe their eyes? Tattoos? Height? Sense of style? Spook felt her head start to spin. What did she notice first?

“Well uhm..I’m not sure. I think I don't really like people because of how they treat others,” she held onto her pumpkin tightly, “depending on how you look or even your social status or wealth you are treated differently. Some people give you looks of praise for being pretty and others of disgust because you don't meet their standards. Its all very frustrating. Everyone should just be accepted for who they are! Its not our place to judge. If you dont got something nice to say then dont talk!” Spooks voice cracked a bit as she looked around at the others. “Everyones face holds so much emotion that you can tell if they like you or not..so annoying.”

Adrienne's Pumpkin Patch - Day 2 Closed!

Postby Cactologist » Fri Sep 27, 2024 1:23 am

Thank you to all who participated in Day Two. Everyone got seven Cranberries for their efforts. Adrienne cherished the opportunity to get to know each of you a bit better. Here's what she had to say:

To sprig:
Adrienne wrote:It’s so sweet of you to compliment others’ outfits! Sometimes a lot of thought goes into an outfit, and I just know your noticing of it means a lot! And I’m sorry people aren’t always receptive to your talkativeness, but it’s uplifting to hear how you have spun that to ensure that you are always nice to others”

To Joke’s On You:
Adrienne wrote:Jim, thank you for opening up to me! Did I already mention how happy I am that you came to my patch? I don’t believe in coincidences, and I have a feeling you’ll get more than a pumpkin out of your time here…
Speaking of, I have this ear of calico corn left over from this year’s harvest. It has a beauty that I feel like you might be able to appreciate. Would you like to have it?

To ♔Voltaire♔:
Adrienne wrote:Yiruma, you seem to have put a lot of thought into this! That accounting mind of yours is endlessly intriguing. Give me chills! Oh, do stay and tell me more. We’re both drawn to eyes, but Cracked Egg could use more than that!

To Black.Wings:
Adrienne wrote:Thistle, you’re the kindest! I’m so excited to read it, I’ll have to get into it right away! And “beauty of the soul,” that’s beautiful! And thank you, I see the same in you! After all, who else would trust a stranger with a book of theirs? See you soon!

To case:
Adrienne wrote:Shallow? Absolutely not! There’s a lot to be said about how your spirit responds to others’, and sometimes it’s for the best. And thank you, I feel the same about you! I’m so thankful you came to my patch! You have a wisdom and level of discernment that many others don’t. And don’t worry, I’m sure I can make something beautiful of Chumpkin yet!

To honeybunchesofoats:
Adrienne wrote:You know, that’s a bit of wisdom you don’t always hear! There’s always more to others than what first impressions reveal, and I appreciate how you look beyond these things. Someone once told me, if you don’t like someone, you don’t well them enough. I don’t always agree, but it’s a good reminder to get to know others deeper before you make judgements. Thank you for sharing a bit about your story!

To strawberrymwilk:
Adrienne wrote:You must be very perceptive! I’m sure that can tell you a lot about a person, based on how they react in social situations! Isn’t it fascinating how in tune we are to notice others’ non-verbal means of communication? You’ve given me a lot to think about as I carve Little Red for you!

To BadgerBuddies:
Adrienne wrote:Isn’t it wonderful how unique everyone is! It makes me so sad when others don’t like what makes them unique because I often find that these differences are what makes everyone beautiful! Speaking of beautiful blemishes and embracing what’s unique, I have been waiting for just the perfect father for Pumbaa here, and I think you’re just the one!

To paopu:
Adrienne wrote:I completely agree, there is much to be learned from others by their posture! I don’t think we often realize how easily our mentality is conveyed by our nonverbal signals, but there definitely is a lot to be said about that. You’re so right, Caspian. That is a good place to start!

To DarkestWerewolf:
Adrienne wrote:Nyx, you get me! What you said about a smile that doesn’t reach the eyes is so true. You know what they say, “The eyes, Chico, they never lie.” I’m so sorry to hear about your grandma, but I can relate. Eyes have a way of telling what can’t be said, and betraying what you try to hide. Thank you for opening up to me.

To bluex:
Adrienne wrote:I’m so glad you like “Pinkie!” I had a feeling you two would get along. Although I don’t have your eye for outfits and hairstyles, I definitely understand where you’re coming from. I love how others can express themselves through their appearances, like your beautiful dress! When I saw you coming, I just knew you were going to be full of spunk!

To certified:
Adrienne wrote:Aw, I’m so glad you love Bruce! In a way, all along, I was growing him just for you, isn’t that beautiful? And no, that’s not too vague at all! Someone wise once said “The mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” We have the power to speak life or curses, and how we communicate definitely says a lot about us! I’m so glad I met you, Buttercup! You’re so wise!

To Winter Shores:
Adrienne wrote:Wow, Spook, thank you for sharing your perspective! There’s so much wisdom in what you have learned from your experiences. We need more cows like you who are willing and able to look past appearances and accept people for who they are, not what their friendship could do for you! It sounds like you have had poor encounters in the past, and I do hope you won’t have to suffer any more of that!

Day Three - Open!

Postby Cactologist » Fri Sep 27, 2024 1:23 am

Aaaand, eyes are done! I think I'll carve its nose next...
Mmm, smell that? Apple cider, cinnamon, fallen leaves... Don't you think autumn has the best smells?
I love things that smell good! I really don't know what I would do without my nose! What about you? Which sense do you trust most, or which couldn't you live without?

Day 3 Prompt: Which of their five senses does your Buttermilk favor?
No word maximum or minimum, but remember, quality over quantity.

Note: Day 3's prompt does not require completion of previous ones. Adrienne has plenty of pumpkins for everyone!

Prompt Response:
Edward definitely favors his sight over all other senses. As previously mentioned, he loves looking for the most unique traits in others, and he certainly applies this to all aspects of his life. He loves to explore his environment and find quirky places with odd trinkets. Art is something he enjoys very much, and he loves to study the artworks and the emotions they are trying to capture in still-life. The more bizarre the artwork, the better to him. Sometimes he’ll go into thrift stores and antique shops just to see what oddities someone may have donated or sold there. Some may think it’s nosiness, but it really is a dedication to finding all of the things labeled as “weird” or “different” and taking the time to appreciate this less loved items or places.

Yiruma’s eyes widen as Adrienne presents him his pumpkin, the crackly pattern of the markings reminding him of the kintsugi bowls he has stored in his old antique China cabinet back at home. Her words are cryptic, enough to make the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end; but he makes his best attempt to brush them off with another awkward chuckle, toying with the collar of his jacket as he watches the woman carve out the eyes and begin working on the nose.

At her next question, Yiruma has to think, chewing at the inside of his already sore cheek in deep focus." “I’d have to say I rely too much on my sight- you know, with accounting and all…” he murmurs, nervously wetting his chapped lips. . “My job relies heavily on my ability to see the things most people tend to not notice, or pay much attention to. It’s in those small, minute details that one can find the answers, or even comfort in.”

“Even outside of my work, I can say for certain that my eyes would be the one things I’d hate to lose. The gift of seeing the rain hit the pavement, or drip down the old roofing of my house; seeing the fireworks in my region’s many festivals… If I lose my sight, I’d lose all sense of reason.”

Prompt Day: 3 Which of their five senses does your Buttermilk favor?

Thistle came shuffling over, same time as the last two days like clockwork. “Have you started the book yet? Isn’t it so good!?” His face wild with excitement. He seemed to have stopped at the cafe before coming this time with a tall glass of tea. “It’s pumpkin chai! Tis the season after all. I just live the smell of tea. Would I consider my sense of smell my favorite?” He thought for a moment, smelling his tea, then his pumpkin. He went a little crazy and started inhaling the dirt. “I think I actually prefer my sight. I couldn’t read my books without it. Plus the beautiful sunsets, or the changing leaves. There’s so much beauty in this world.” He takes a sloppy sip of his tea.”My sense of smell is absolutely a close second though. Oh I almost forgot! I brought you a maple donut!” He happily plops the donut down in front of you before finishing his tea. He smiles and waves goodbye as he sprints off somewhere else. “Keep up with the book! I like you, but I want my book back before the festival ends!”
