Prompt: Describe what your Buttermilk will be using as thread for their quilt. What color is it? Is it cotton? Polyester? Maybe they’ve woven fine strands of grass together! Minimum 100 words.

Being a stay at home mother, Gardenia does a lot of quilting, and has actually made a quilt for each and every one of her eight children! She knows her way around a sewing machine, and she swears by 80 weight cotton thread, so that her stitches sink a bit more into her cloth for a more in-laid design. She tends to go for threads that are gassed, meaning that the thread’s fuzz is burnt off by passing it through a flame! She believes that it helps with maintaining the lint output that cotton threads tend to have, and allows for more seamless stitching (no pun intended!) (108 words)

Cow: Pancake
Prompt: Describe what your Buttermilk will be using as thread for their quilt. What color is it? Is it cotton? Polyester? Maybe they’ve woven fine strands of grass together! Minimum 100 words. Pancake is one of Badger’s more laid-back, less energetic kiddos. You may be surprised to see a badger-faced Buttermilk sitting down to quilt, but with this girl, it isn’t out of character at all. Pancake sits down and carefully studies the materials available to her. She takes the time to feel each ream, studying the texture and comfort of them all. She wanted something that would be comfortable, of course, not too itchy or anything and also breathable. It probably would be important that the quilt would be easy to clean in case of any accidental spills and such. She weighed her options carefully, and ultimately selected cotton as her material of choice to build her quilt with.

while quilts are often sewn with polyester and cotton, of silk or wool or linen, bluebell prefers a more personal and creative route. her connection to nature opened her eyes to the natural thread holding the environment together; spider silk and flowers. along her many amiable strolls through the woods she has stumbled upon spider webs many times, winking with dew in the morning light. its durability shocks her every time as she pokes and prods with delicate hooves. over time her fondness and connection to the small creatures grew, along with her fascination and understanding of their falsely fragile world. bluebell tried it one day; cautiously collecting the silk, filling empty spools with excitement, and masterfully sewing fabrics together in intricate designs. the end product was a masterpiece. its threads nearly invisible except its iridescent shimmer when held to the light. abandoned spider webs were all she used since. helping clean nooks and crannies for new friends and taking the burden of too-big webs from old ones. bluebell had been using flora and their stems for accent threads as her signature for quite some time. their heads well preserved and full, adding texture and a liveliness she had yet to see for such creatively free crafts. together with the silk from the spiders, the two gave her quilts a unique look and durability she was proud to put her name next to.

Cow: Matilda
Prompt:
Matilda has been knitting for as long as anyone at Cherry Creek can remember- but this is her first time truly attempting a quilt. Who ever said an old heifer can’t learn new tricks, hm?

Her choice for thread is an easy one. If there’s one thing Matilda despises, it’s fabric that is prone to fraying. She’s decided to use wool for her quilt- as in addition to being famously warm, the material is also strong and elastic enough that it doesn’t fray easily. Yes, Matilda thinks, nodding with satisfaction- when all this is over, she’s going to have a fantastically cozy wool quilt to bring home to all the calves at Cherry Creek.

Kore is not the craftiest or most artistic of cows. She doesn’t really know what she’s doing. She’s dabbled in crocheting before but gave up, stating it was a “psychotic hobby” (she did spend the next 2 hours talking to herself while crocheting a scarf fit for a cat)

Back to the topic at hand, Kore was a little bit hesitant but decided to give this beginner class a go. Who knows. Maybe she’d like it more than crocheting. After some thought, she decided to go with wool as her thread of choice and in a light blue colour. Wool is thick enough for her to see what she’s doing and it being a light colour would help even more. (120)

Cow: Dovie
Prompt:
Dovie is not one for crafting generally. In fact, normally, she'd have people for that. But she supposed it couldn't hurt to try - how hard could it be? First and foremost, if she was going to do it she was going to do it right. She would not stand for anything less than the finest fabric. She wanted something soft and silky and, of course, expensive. Nothing less would do and she refused, on principle, to use a fabric any less elegant than herself. Also, it just be red. Vain as if may be, it was her favorite color after all.

Prompt: Describe what your Buttermilk will be using as thread for their quilt. What color is it? Is it cotton? Polyester? Maybe they’ve woven fine strands of grass together! Minimum 100 words.

Having sewn with her grandma since she was small, Salem was immediately drawn to the booth with "patchwork" in the title above the stall. The moment she was given the instruction, she set to work finding the perfect thread for her very first handmade quilt. Her first stop was, of course, her granny Nars' house to see what she had lying around. "I know I have some vintage cotton thread around here, somewhere..." Nars mumbled to herself as she spilled through boxes and tins. "AhHAH!" She exclaimed. Salem peered into an old cookie tin to find the most perfect white thread along with a beautiful periwinkle shade. "These will be perfect, granny. Divine, even! Thank you so much!" And off she went back to Barnaby, to share her perfect finding.

Cow: Pumpkin Roll
Prompt: Describe what your Buttermilk will be using as thread for their quilt. What color is it? Is it cotton? Polyester? Maybe they’ve woven fine strands of grass together! Minimum 100 words.

Baking and creating delicious delights is Pumpkin Roll's specialty, but as time passed, she began to get bored sitting around the bakery. Baking was all she was doing day in and day out, and more than anything, Pumpkin Roll wanted to pick up a hobby. When she caught word of the Fall Festival coming to town, she was quick to take a personal day from the bakery in order to explore the different activities the festival had to offer. Perhaps she would discover something that caught her attention.

As she walked past the booths, Pumpkin Roll noticed a booth labelled Pumpkin Patchwork. The person who was manning the booth for the festival was advertising that they were showcasing quilts he had been working on as well as giving others the opportunity to learn to make a quilt themselves. Instantly, Pumpkin Roll knew this was her calling and that she would give it her best shot.

Choosing a color for the thread was easy, knew instantly that she would be choosing orange. It was her favorite color so there wasn't a second thought to it. The hard part was deciding what type of thread she would be using. Pumpkin Roll had little to no knowledge on anything regarding quilt making. As she thought long and hard about it, weighing the options presented to her in her head, Pumpkin Roll decided to go with the basic cotton thread. Nothing wrong with that, especially with her being a beginner.

Now that the color and type of thread was all decided, Pumpkin Roll took her place so that she could begin working on her quilt. [271]
