Extras: 602 wordsThe darkness was consuming, the sun gone, slipped away behind the fog of darkness. Even the animals of darkness were silent within the fog. Nobody would know. Sure, it wasn't the smartest, but for once Tanith didn't care.
The serpents could eat her whole while she admired their elegance. Even the darkness was scared as the beast growled with a threat that shook her bones. Yet, nothing would move her. Not even the imposing creature standing before her. Tanith was no longer scared. Its slow blink was taunting, a look that meant aggression.
Even within the silence of the moment, or the innocence of the blink, she knew there was deeper meaning. Nothing was without hidden meanings, it just depended on how hard you were to look for them. Within the silence, Tanith could feel the hidden eyes on her. The eyes of creatures wondered what would happen. Not even she knew.
Run, the silence called to her, run to safety, this is foolish.. Yet, she refused to move. No matter how foolish this was, she would stand her ground. Maybe the darkness was attempting to hide her from her looming fate. Tanith looked at the creature and dug her paws farther into the ground. With her head held high, she met its gaze.
One foot lifted as it snorted at her, its eyes narrowed. Even the whispering voices suddenly went silent. Tanith looked up and met its gaze, looking at the ebony scales. For once her thoughts went silent as she just stared at the creature. Its eyes were a simple void, unreadable. For the first time since the encounter had begun, Tanith felt an imposing feeling of doom.
Maybe this feeling was finally her instincts kicking in, who knew, but what Tanith did know, is that all of a sudden she was regretting her choices. Its dark gaze met hers and she wondered if its scaled tail was linked with poison. All-consuming darkness fogged her mind, she couldn't move any longer, her throat had gone dry, and all of a sudden her cockiness had vanished. Her breath caught as it all finally hit her, how much she regretted her choices.
Why had she been so full of herself? This had been such a horrible decision. All she could see was darkness and those striking ebony scales. Nobody was coming to save her, she was stuck. For once, she didn't know what to do. The sensation of doom swathed her senses along with the darkness. It was all so hazy as she met the eyes of the dragon.
She had finally come to terms with the fact that this serpent was a dragon, and how dangerous those things were. This was not a normal snake, no, this was a beast that blocked the sun where it stood and muted any sound around it. This was a creature that intimidated the night creatures. Its force scared even the strongest of beasts.
For once, it finally sunk in how headstrong she had been. The darkness was so thick she thought she would choke on it. There was one creature that dared make a noise as a blackbird cawed from above as if laughing at her predicament. At the sound of the bird laughing at her, she straightened and scowled at the bird. A foolish bird would not get the last laugh.
Something finally snapped and she growled at the bird, at herself, and most importantly, at that dragon. She would not give up that easily, she had remained this stubborn for so long. These creatures would not see her end.
Everything went black.

Lyrics: Shadow - LivingstonDon't think twice
You'll be dead in a second
Turn your eyes
From your hands to the heavens
Kill your pride
Turn your fear to a weapon
And don't you forget itKarma - AJRSome diagnosis of why I’m so hollow
Please give me instructions I promise I’ll follow
I tripped on my ankle and fractured my elbow
But doesn’t that mean that the tour’s gonna sell, though?
I try to explain the good faith that’s been wasted
But after an hour it sounds like complaining
Wait, don’t go away, can I lie here forever?
You say that I’m better, why don’t I feel better?
The universe works in mysterious ways
But I’m starting to think it ain’t working for me
Doctor, should I be good, should I be good this year?Extras: 1,324 wordsHis mind whirled as he looked off into the Kingdom. Axlan felt everything building on his shoulders, all the expectations that surrounded him. Every cat expected so much from him. But what if he couldn't give them everything they wanted? He did not have magic powers to make everybody around him happy, yet, everybody seemed to think that he did.
Even the trees seemed to beg him for action, the rush of the wind asking him for help. Why could he never catch a break, never have a moment to himself. Every moment had to be dedicated to somebody else. For once he wanted something to himself, and he didn't care how selfish he sounded anymore. "A gift from the gods" They called him.
He didn't want to be a gift from the gods anymore, with all the weight that sat in him because of that title. No longer did he want the responsibility of that title. Why must everything sit on him so heavy? Even the adults did not burden this weight that he had to.
Everything had to be a struggle within for him. Axlan could not have anything simple for the life of him. His head pulsed with everything demanded of him. He was not a god himself, why must everybody lay this on him as though he was? It hurt so bad.
Axlan had to get away, find a way to escape this madness. All he wanted was a break, why couldn't he get one? Why was this all so hard! The other learners got breaks and reprieves, praise and pride, yet he was deprived of it all. Every cat came to him with requests that he would never be able to fulfill, all he wanted was peace.
On the worst of days he would flee the Kingdom and hide within the outside world. The outside world never had unreasonable expectations for him. The outside world never pressured him into talking, into helping, into being there for every cat in the Kingdom. The outside world let him have his moment of peace within a world that would not grant him that small privilege. For the expectations placed on him he wanted to flee, become one with the outside world.
At this point everything had built up so much it was as though the leaves pleaded with him to help them grow larger. While squeezing his eyes shut he pushed on forward and continued marching on, blocking out the noise of the world. Trudging along he crashed into something. A massive, rough blockade forced him to halt in his steps and look up. A dragon loomed over him, its head tilted as if in kindness.
The fact that this dragon revealed more kindness than he had ever seen caused him to soften. Axlan returned the head tilt to the animal and lowered his tail in a show of surrender. At this sight, the dragon dropped its head to his chest and snorted gently. For once, Axlan gave into this peace and smiled. He had not smiled in ages, had not enjoyed a quiet moment in much to long.
It was rather entertaining the idea that a massive, imposing dragon had been the one to drag this out of him. Axlan had pushed his fear to the side to enjoy the innocent moment, He allowed his eyes to shut as the dragon snorted against his fur. Its warm breath was oddly soothing to the cat. No other cat had brought this out in him and he allowed himself to savor the moment for once in his life.
This moment was treated like his treasure. The moment he dared show any fear or aggression the dragon would puff up and get defensive. With this knowledge he allowed himself to remain peaceful, not daring show any fear for the sake of irritating the dragon. Maybe that was the secret to these creatures, to simply remain calm. For all he knew, these creatures could sense how he felt.
Although these creatures were banned to be around, Axlan found himself seeking the comfort of the creature. Maybe that is why so many cats used to ride these animals. For once, he let everything ebb away to simply embrace the moment fully. Maybe this is why he is a gift from the gods, to show cats that they all need a moment to themselves every once in awhile. But that was more than likely false.
For once Axlan chased any thought away to simply enjoy the moment. What was the point of returning to the thought when he had finally found something that would give him the peace he had always been seeking. At the sound of rustling from within the trees, Axlan got defensive and puffed up, standing stock still. He did not dare make a noise to alert what every was lurking within the brush.
Sensing him get defensive, the dragon returned the action and growled lowly into the trees, scaring off the birds above. Whatever was stalking through the brush halted at the noise. Axlan didn't know who or what was lurking, but he didn't blame them for halting at the sound of the growl. His heart began to pound within his ears and his eyes grew sharp. Any earlier kindness and peace had vanished at the sudden sound. If this was a cat he knew, he certainly would not allow them to see him weak and vulnerable.
Whatever was lurking finally pushed through the trees and appeared before Axlan and the dragon. At first Axlan had expected the presence to be another cat whom had gone searching for him. Yet, much to his dismay, it was another, although much smaller, dragon. This one was a pale blue unlike the dark green one he was currently bonding with. Axlan tilted his head at the other dragon and met its gaze. Although fully grown, this new dragon was nearly half the size of the one growling defensively over Axlan.
Although Axlan didn't quite understand what was going on, he forced his fear down to channel it into something more manageable. The forest green dragon looming over him finally eased up once he stopped feeling the fear. Maybe they really could sense his emotions, that would explain a lot. Axlan shifted closer to the larger dragon and kept an eye on the other one. His fur on edge even though he hid his fear rather well from both of the dragons. If he managed to fake his confidence surely he would be able to push through what ever was going on between the two dragons.
Axlan could sense both dragons were on edge and he couldn't help the furrow in his brow at how defensive the dragon had gotten of him. Instead of lingering too long on the though he pushed it away and allowed his gaze to flick between the two dragons. He allowed himself to hide in the larger dragon while they settled the dispute. It was a dangerous spot to be near one dragon, let alone two sizing each other up. In this moment he knew how much he would be risking if he dared to allow his fear to show at all. Steeling himself, he made himself remain firm and cautious, but not fearful.
This seemed to make both of the dragons ease up. Axlan couldn't help but puff up slightly out of pride, his suspicion that these creatures could sense cats emotions confirmed. The fact that dragons could easily tell if you were afraid fascinated Axlan to no end. Maybe that was why cats had always felt so strongly about them, they were always scared which placed the dragons on edge. With this new found knowledge, he found a prideful grin creep up on his face. Learning this at all, let alone on accident was such a big step for the Kingdom.
Maybe he really was a reward from the gods.
