Ghosts. They were fascinating creatures. In all of his years of being a guard for the kingdom he has learn to expect the otherworldly. Calian lived in a world with dragons, griffins, faeries and so many more, why not ghosts? Despite the concept that they had never contacted the Kingdom, he could've sworn he'd seen one before. It had been late and he had been tired, but it had been there.

It was just out of the corner of his eye. A figure moved and shifted. He eyed the figure without directly looking at it. The thing seems almost translucent, hollow, even.

It held the figure of a cat, but it wasn't one. Nobody believed him, but Calian knows what he saw. It was there, and it was real. He doesn't know what the figure was looking for, but he didn't know if he wanted to know either. The cat like figure had seemed so ominous that day, but he had never seen it again.

copperstrike had never believed in ghosts. none of his little cousin's tales had ever phased him, nor had any scary stories—not until he got one of his own to tell, that is.

it was a normal day, really. a very normal day and a very normal expedition into a very normal, very dark tunnel. nothing that would scare him, that's for sure. he was one of the strongest warriors in the chasm—no dark, creepy tunnel would scare him.

... okay, maybe he wasn't overjoyed to be accompanying mink on his i-swear-i-saw-something-this-time-for-real-copper! whims—who would be?!—but he definitely wasn't scared.

the sudden whoosh of a very poorly-timed breeze sent him skittering forward into his cousin's tail. alright. maybe he was a little... unsettled, sure. that was all. it was perfectly normal in such a creepy place, right?

"copper, are you—" mink started, turning to smooth out his tail.

"i'm fine," he snapped. "let's go."

he met mink's concerned glance with a glare of his own. at his huff of encouragement, his little cousin went to take a step forwards, only to stumble over his own feet. "c-copper..?" he breathed.

"what, mink."

"did you.. did you see that?"

copperstrike narrowed his eyes, scanning the shadows dancing at the edge of his vision, taunting him. "see what?"

mink's eyes followed his, agitated, hopping from the flickering flames on the wall to the darkness inbetween.

letting out another huff, copper went to move around him—

and then he saw it.
