Beaumont Collie #840 Adopted

Postby Griffin Torrens » Wed Jun 05, 2024 3:14 am

    Adopted

This collie is related to Litter #892 - Puppy B: Mist & Adopt #835: Marsh

    Username: miraphoenix
    Name: Lily
    Gender: DFAB
    Adult Height: 20 in
    Adult Weight: 40 lbs
Color: Blue Chinchilla Cryptic Merle Minimal Striped White
Genotype: atat+ Bb cece dd EchEch hh Ii kyky Mam Sst tt Uu Llw

    --

Chance to breed for a puppy!
This adopt will be a completely healthy puppy resulting from breeding two of your collies: it will be genetically related to them but won't use a breeding slot through the magic of pride month! It gives you the chance to breed some canon collie pairs you couldn't normally breed, due to risk, no slots, etc. There are a few rules and there is an effort based contest aspect to this.

    Rules:
      - Collies CANNOT be related.
      - You must own both collies.
      - Collies cannot be sterile. They cannot be KbxKbx, but carries are accepted, however will NOT pass to the pup, even as a carrier.
      - There will only be one pup, but it will be rolled like normal with a few exceptions (no chance for mutations or seasonal surprises, but still chance for edits/stained/bleached/tephra/raposa)
      - There will be no chance for impairment, no matter the merle combo! If you breed two Harlequins together it's guaranteed not to be double harlequin.

To enter: link your two collies and write a short story based on the prompt below. This is to give everyone a chance to write about their existing collies, so even if you don't win you will have this story! No min or max. You may answer simply, or add artwork/songs/more! Just be sure to credit everything appropriately.
AI is NOT allowed on the writing aspect. You may use AI art as long as it is clearly labeled as such.
There may be RUs offered depending on number of entries.

Prompt: Tell me about how these collies fell in love! Eg. was it love at first sight, or slowly over time?

Ends 11th12th-13th June unless extensions requested.

Parent 1: Vanish
Parent 2: Cloudy
Prompt:

The minute Vanish caught a whiff of the newborn puppy in his owner's hands, he knew she was different than all the other puppies that came before her.
Vanish was a seasoned puppy raiser. Krasivi Kennels was a breeding kennel after all, dedicated to bettering the Beaumont Collie breed, showing, training and competing with all dogs. And with all these accomplished dogs, came puppies.
Vanish , not taking his eyes off the brown and white puppy, called over to Kosmonaut, who was licking his paws nearby. "Who is she?"
"Penguin's puppy," he answered nonchalantly, between licks. "A singleton."
He stopped licking and quirked an ear at Vanish. "What's that expression on your face? All good?"
Vanish didn't answer. He could not take his eyes off of the newborn puppy. After some time, his owner took her away, probably back to her mother, but Vanish never saw her again. Nobody could tell him where she had been taken, but she wasn't at Krasivi farm anymore. He looked for days, weeks, but her soft milky scent was gone, and soon, she faded from his memory.

- 3 years later -

Vanish was laying on the hard wood of the deck, exhausted from the morning ventures. The ever brightening rays of the afternoon spring sun beamed into his body, warm and comforting. They had moved the cows into a new pasture this morning and it had taken 4 experienced collies to get the job done. The deck wasn't his preferred spot of rest, but he liked it here because it was secluded and peaceful.
"Vanish! Vaniiiiish!"
Vanish winced. So much for his peace and quiet.
He heard nails clicking on the deck and opened an eye to see Victor round the corner, wagging his broad, curly tail.
"Vanish! A new collie just arrived. Her name is Cloudy."
Vanish groaned and sat up. There was no going back now, his rest has been disturbed and may as well be over.
"Another new collie?" He protested. "We've had 4 new collies join us this year already. Panda, Vanilluxe, Summerboy... I forget who else. But there's been a lot. Oh, alright, don't give me that look, I'm coming."
The two padded off towards the front paddocks, where Vanish could already see his whole pack gathered. They were running, playing, laying, all happy and well cared for. Vanish relaxed, pleased with what he saw. He deeply loved and cared for his friends. In his pack, he was definitely the dominant dog. Beaumonts were not extremely hierarchal or aggressive, but being one of the most longstanding dogs in the Kennel, Vanish was well respected and earned his place at the top. His knowledge and expertise in all aspects were unmatched, so all dogs deferred to him. He mentored several puppies, and even more adult dogs, teaching them the way of life at Krasivi Kennels, providing them solid foundations for their lives and careers as show, sport, and working dogs. Vanish was the foundation on which the kennel was built. He was unwavering, dedicated to the cause, never missing a beat... not exactly a 'loner,' he had his friends, but never got too close to any collie or took a mate.

"Vanish!' His owner called. She was standing ahead of him, ball in hand and raised to throw it for the few collies that were poised, tongues lolling and eyes razor focused. As Vanish bounded yup to her she released the ball and the collies around her darted away. Just one remained.
She was breathtaking. The collie before him turned her lovely refined head to look at him. She had one shimmering blue eye, and the other was a soft sage green. Her fur was sleek and gleaming in the sunlight, rich colors of chocolate brown and rust swirling with white. She had a lovely dark nose which seemed to twitch, maybe trying to catch a scent of him. Her ears pricked forward and then she laid them flat on her head, wagging her tail in a low sweep.
"Vanish, right?"
Her words brought him back to earth. His breathing quickened. And he froze. What kind of feelings were these? He had never experienced this sensation before, and he felt pretty helpless. Trying to regain his composure, he stuttered,
"Y-yes. Hi. Welcome to Krasivi Kennels. I'll show you around." And then he looked down and added "If you'd like."
She wagged low again. "I would love that."
They sniffed each other, and she smelled so familiar that Vanish felt a literal pain in his brain trying to put the smell to the collie. Obviously they'd never met but.. why did he know that smell?

As the two collies made their way across the property, Vanish couldn't help but warm up even more to his gorgeous new companion. Never had he matched energy so much with a collie before. And he truly felt she was equally as enchanted in him. She laughed at all his jokes, stared inquisitively at him while he explained what various parts of the farm were, and asked thoughtful questions. Before he knew it, the low dusk light started settling in and the evening bugs and fireflies started to float around.
"Cloudy," he surprised himself by suddenly asking, "would you like to join me by the TV tonight?" She looked puzzled so he added, "It's a nightly tradition. I always sit with my owner while she watches a movie. Some of them are really good-"
"Count me in! I love movies!" she replied, wagging happily.
"What else do you like?"
"I like chasing gophers, playing agility, running with my friends, contemplating movie theories.." They both laughed at that one. "And," she added, voice growing softer, "I love puppies. I have gotten to help raise a few of them already, and I just love them. I hope to have a puppy of my own someday."
Vanish exhaled, and met her eyes. "You and me both. I've helped raise most of the dogs on this farm." They both turned simultaneously and gazed at the expanse of land, some dogs running and playing in the evening light.
She tuned back to him. "I'd love to talk to you some time about all your experiences. It's clear you have a lot."
"Anytime." Vanish smiled. "I'm sure you could teach me a thing or two too."

After not too long, the two laid close together inside, in the dark living room with the flickering shapes of the TV illuminating their faces. The movie Racing Stripes was playing, one of his favorites, but Vanish barely noticed. He was just focused on Cloudy. Vampir smirked at him from across the room, knowingly. Vanish never let anyone sit with him. It was always just him and his owner for TV time.
"I'm so glad you've been so amazingly kind," Cloudy said, nudging Vanish's shoulder with her muzzle. "I've had a great first day here. Well, second."
"Second?" Vanish stared, puzzled.
"I was born here actually! But my mother said I had complications and had to stay in the hospital for a few weeks. Then I was just raised at another home and now... now I'm back."
Vanish felt dizzy. All at once he knew. It hit him like a brick. Of course! It was her. It had always been her. He was destined to find her again. That soft, little red and white puppy, all those years ago...
Vanish closed his eyes, content.
When he opened them, a confused Cloudy met his gaze.
"Cloudy, we have so much to talk about."
They had all the time in the world. That day was the start of their forever.

Parent 1: Firestar
Parent 2: Sandstorm
Prompt:

Firestar had been a wild dog before joining the kennel, and he preferred to be alone so he didn't really interact with any of the other collies. He also preferred to sleep on the meadows surrounding the farm. One day a new collie arrived and Firestar was not happy about it, because he did not want to risk any dog up in his personal space. But the new collie, Sandstorm was really interested in Firestar and getting to know him, because for her it was love at first sight, but it wasn't for Firestar, he would rather she left him alone

Weeks passed and Sandstorm was not getting any closer to Firestar which made her sad. But one day everything changed, an accident happened and Sandstorm was nearly attacked by a wild raccoon. Firestar saw it and chased the raccoon off. Sandstom had a small bite on her paw after the attack, so Firestar decided to keep her company while she recovered. He was still not sure about letting her too close, but very slowly opened up and slowly fell in love with her. Another couple weeks passed and Firestar had to admit he had fallen in love with her and her happy personality.

Sandstorm was all better so he decided to show her his favourite meadow. They sat down next to some trees and flowers. Fireheart told her that the purple flowers was his favourite ones. Right after he told her that he loves her, and she told him that she loves him too. They been inseparable ever since and spend almost every day at the meadow.

Parent 1: Daybreak Forum/viewtopic.php?t=4946921
Parent 2: Magnus Forum/viewtopic.php?f=124&t=4739902
Prompt: The radiant sun came peaking through the blinds, but Daybreak wasn’t ready to wake up. He was never a fan of mornings, but this one was different. It was Saturday! Saturdays are his favorite because they’re hiking days. With leash in mouth, Day pranced over to his owner ready to be geared up with the harness, anticipating an exciting adventure. Out the door and into the car he went, tongue out and with a smile on his face. It was a brilliant spring day with the scent of wildflowers blowing through the air.

They arrived to the trailhead and Day’s tail wagged enthusiastically. He hoped to see Magnus, the strong and loyal canine that he had met on a previous hike. Daybreak hadn’t stopped thinking about him since their last encounter. They set off on the trail, it was filled with flora of many different varieties and the sound of birds chirping nearby. Day’s ears perked up as he saw a familiar silhouette. Sure enough, it was Magnus! His tall stature and long flowing fur gave it away. They greeted each other with playful nudges and barks of joy. The connection between the two was instantly rekindled.

Their owners chatted while the two pups wandered off by the river nearby, they pranced together and splashed in the water hoping the day would never end. “Day! Magnus, let’s go!” they heard in the distance, it was time to get back. The two dogs lead in front, side by side up the trail. They chased butterflies along the way, bonding over life’s simple pleasures.

As the day grew later and the sun started falling below the horizon, it was time to head back home. Magnus and Daybreak reluctantly said goodbye, they sniffed noses and gave gentle neck nudges before parting ways.

Day was absolutely exhausted but very content with such a great day, he fell asleep in the back seat and drifted off. His dreams were filled with more of him and Magnus’s future adventures. His owner glanced in her rear view mirror with a grin on her face, happy to see her furry companion in love.

Prompt:
Panicked pawsteps paced back and forth on the front porch of the house. When Curry pushed his way through the dog door he found Anisha standing stiffly, looking out over the estate. Curry moved to stand next to her. He stayed silent, knowing that probing wouldn't help any. He'd helped Anisha out of plenty of messes. The process was always the same.
"I really screwed up this time," Anisha finally admitted with a sigh.
Curry let her speak, his gaze steady.
"I lost the flashlight," Anisha continued. "If the human finds out, they're gonna be so upset."
Curry let out a hum. She'd probably left it out in the field. That's where they'd found it last time.
And the two times before that.
"I can help you find it," Curry offered.
Anisha eagerly accepted, and the two of them trotted off towards the field.

They did indeed find the flashlight there.

-----

Anisha was certain that she was getting close to extracting the treat from the puzzle toy. If she could just figure out how to move that one piece...
The dog door was flung open. Curry walked in to the room, listless and frowning. Anisha was quick to recognize the look on his face as intense boredom. She knew well that the other collie didn't enjoy having nothing to do. He entered the room and Anisha watched as he walked around in broad circles. She could feel him coming undone in front of her, unable to hold himself together without a task.
Anisha practically threw the puzzle toy at Curry.
"Hey! Can you get the last treat out of this?" Anisha asked him.
"...huh? O-oh yeah, sure. Let me see that."
There he was, slowly climbing his way back to reality. Anisha watched closely as Curry expertly moved all of the different plastic parts around. The treat fell out at Anisha's feet before she could even register how Curry had done it. She grinned at him.

"Impressive."

-----

And that was how it started. Two dogs who realized how well they balanced each other out, choosing to pursue that and find out just how far they could go with it. Anisha came at the world knowing that having fun would reveal all of its mystical secrets. Curry relied on his logic and cunning, focusing on what he already knew to learn new things. She reminded him not to take everything too seriously, and he was there to reel her back in when she flew too close to the sun.
It happened slowly and naturally. Neither of them could put a paw on when exactly they fell in love.

Name: [Call name pending] | Lily
Gender: DFAB
Name Meaning: When you have a marsh, and mist, maybe somewhere nearby will be a waterlily!

Parent 1: Embrace The Silence | Mist
Parent 2: Lights On The Water | Marsh
Prompt:
Well, it all began with a listing in the personal section of the local paper.
Mist prided herself on being a patient dog, but she couldn't help but be excited; would anyone answer? Who would they be; someone she'd seen before, or a complete stranger? Would she like them, and more importantly, would they end up liking her? The questions swirled in her mind as she waited for the response.

A letter came in the mail a few days later, handwritten, in a plain envelope with a frog stamp.
    Dear Mist,

My name is Marsh, and I have seen your letter in the paper. From the impression I receive, I think I would like to meet; at risk of being presumptuous, but you sound like an ideal match. I'm new in the area, and I love both storytelling and adventures, with a lot of stories I'd love to share.
May I call on you this weekend, perhaps for lunch and a walk?

    Hopefully yours,
    -Marsh
    [he/they]

Attached in the envelope was a picture of a collie with bright blue eyes and a kind smile, standing in front of a multi-tiered waterfall, with a phone number written neatly on the back in blue ink.
After some brief worry about calling an unfamiliar number, Mist dialed the number and made the date.

    ~~

Looking back on the evening, Mist felt the evening had been utterly unreal.

The pair had met for a simple lunch at a café, but the conversation shifted away from food and onto Marsh's travels even before the bread had arrived. He had recently returned from a trip up north, where he had been working on a bison restoration project; moving the herd from farm to rangeland to the wild had taken substantial time, and wasn't without risks, but the stories he told were utterly enchanting.

The hours slipped away, and the two collies found themselves walking along the canal until scarlet feathers of sunset light began to touch the trees. Realizing the lateness of the hour, Marsh had turned to Mist and asked if another date at the same time next week would be of interest. Mist had accepted without even checking her calendar.

    ~~

And so it went, as weeks turned to months; Marsh and Mist would meet on the weekends and wander out into the world, sharing a story or two as they went. Marsh talked at length about journeys to the corners of the world, while Mist showed them all the hidden gems of the area, from hidden waterfalls to quiet forest paths where ancient oaks made tunnels of greenery over mossy stones. The two bonded over music, with each sharing songs back and forth and listening long into the night. With each story shared, Mist found herself growing ever more eager for Marsh's next visit, and what became weekly soon became more frequent, and the pair were growing inseparable.

The seasons turned ever on, and soon strings of geese began to whirl overhead, calling as Marsh and Mist walked below, shoulder to shoulder in the fallen leaves. The pair turned their gaze to the sky, watching the birds while a cool wind blew through their fur. As the two stood by the dock, looking out from the canal into the lake beyond, Marsh turned to their companion with a strange veiled hope in his sparkling eyes.

"I know I'm a wanderer," they began, turning to face Mist on the dock, although his eyes were cast down towards the weathered planks. "But I was thinking... About staying here. Would you...?"

"Be interested in staying with you?" Mist's voice was quiet, and the air was full with the distant honking of geese.

"If you would have me, of course," Marsh added, his eyes meeting Mist's; he never wanted to impose, and Mist cherished their gentleness with every moment.

"Until the stars fall from the sky," came the reply, as she trotted forward to lick his cheek. "From the moment that I read your letter, I was hoping you would ask."

Marsh beamed then, his tail thumping a drumbeat on the pier uprights as his smile burned brighter than the falling sun.
"I... For once in my life, I don't know what to say!" he laughed, happiness practically radiating from him in waves. "I... What do we do now?"

"Come on, let's go get dinner; you were going to tell me about visiting the ocean, right?" Mist was beaming, and the pair walked off together, full of laughter, hope, and dreams of an endless future.
