xxxThe three species that can be found available for adoption in Ey'la Dobren are dragons, gryffins, and unicorns. These three are known as the Greater Beasts. All three are highly intelligent, capable of speech, and have their own cultures and customs, which can differ depending on the location and local history of the species. Dragons, gryffins, and unicorns are known for befriending other species. While each of these Greater Beasts have certain habitats they frequent, it is not uncommon to find them elsewhere throughout Ey'la Dobren. Relocation can occur for any number of reasons, from wanting to stay with friends of a different species or a basic love for travel.
xxxDragons, gryffins, and unicorns are not the only species on Ey'la Dobren. Intelligent hominid species (such as humans, elves, centaurs, dwarves, goblins, etc.) can be found on all six continents and have formed the vast network of roads and ports that lead to the various cities, towns, and villages scattered all over. Animals that are incapable of speech, known as Lesser Beasts, also inhabit all ecosystems of Ey'la Dobren. These include various species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and insects, both on land and in the sea.βββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ

xxxDragons are the least prevalent of the three Greater Beasts seen around Ey'la Dobren. They can typically be found living inside vast caves in the mountains of Edilia. However, this does not mean that dragons can only be found in the mountains. If befriended by other species, dragons are willing to move out of the mountains and can be found elsewhere, such as hominid cities.
xxxThese Greater Beasts can vary greatly in size. They range from only six feet to over three hundred feet from snout to tail-tip. Features of dragons may also differ from one individual to another. It it not uncommon to see various styles of ears, horns, frills, spikes, spines, whiskers, tails, etc. Some dragons may lack wings. Others may only have two legs. Dragons also have the ability to harness different types of elemental magic, including (but not limited to) fire, water, earth, and air. However, it is typical for an individual to be more gifted in one element and less so in others.
xxxThe colors and patterns of dragons are nearly limitless. Their palettes tend to be monochromatic (with different shades of a single color) or complementary (with three to five colors that look pleasant together). Patterns are not usually located on their scaled bodies but instead seen on extremities or features such as their belly scales, horns, frills, spikes, spines, wing membranes, etc. There are many different kinds of patterns that can be seen on dragons, from all sorts of stripes, spots, patches, and even mixtures of all three. While patterns are not usually shown on their scaled bodies, dragons can have gradients of color on their bodies that change from head to tail or show up as patches of soft gradients that may give them an iridescent look.

xxxGryffins are the second most common of the Greater Beasts seen around Ey'la Dobren. They can typically be found close to rivers and lakes, as their diet mainly consists of freshwater fish. It isn't all that uncommon to find them migrating to nearby ocean coastlines on occasion, not only for a change in scenery but also to not overfish their usual fishing grounds.
xxxSimilar to dragons, gryffins can be seen in an array of sizes, depending on the species that make up their two halves. The front half is always some type of bird. The back half is always some type of cat, either domestic or wild. For example, a raven bobcat gryffin will be smaller than an eagle tiger gryffin, since ravens are smaller than eagles and bobcats are smaller than tigers. Gryffins whose bird and cat halves are greatly different in size may lean either way. For example, a cardinal leopard might be on the smaller side because of the cardinal half, or on the larger side because of the leopard half.
xxxThe colors, patterns, and features of gryffins may also depend on what animals make up their two halves. For example, the colors and pattern of the front of a half-peacock gryffin will look quite different from the colors and pattern of the front of a half-parakeet gryffin. Features that can vary are the beaks, the head feathers, and the tails. Some gryffins may also lack claws altogether or gain additional back claws. For example, a raven bobcat gryffin might have a black front half with a sleek head that has no head feathers, and a gray and brown back half with a stubby tail. Not all gryffins will 100% adhere to this rule. For example, head feathers might be seen on a gryffin whose bird half doesn't actually have head feathers at all.

xxxUnicorns are the most common Greater Beast seen around Ey'la Dobren. They can be found roaming around in small to large herds in both forests and plains on all six continents. Unlike dragons and gryffins, which are both carnivores, unicorns are strictly vegetarian and will eat many forms of vegetation, from grass and leaves to fruits and vegetables. They are typically a very open and friendly species.
xxxThese beasts have the least amount of size variation of the three Greater Beasts. Unicorns, much like horses, are measured from the top of their withers rather than the top of their heads. The most common height of unicorns is around five feet, but they can be anywhere between four and six feet. Features that may differ on unicorns are their manes, tails, horns, beards, and the feathery fur around their hooves, which are always cloven. Their tails can be similar to a horse's tail, with a short dock and a skirt of long hair, or be thick and muscular with a tuft of hair on the end.
xxxColors of unicorns can vary between what we would consider more natural colors (like white, brown, or black) to less natural colors (like bright orange, yellow, or green) or even a mixture of the two. Gradients of colors across the body or extremities are not uncommon. Body markings seen on horses are highly common on unicorns, such as tobiano, splash, spotted blanket, grease spots, brindling, etc. White facial and leg markings seen on horses are also common, such as stars, snips, blazes, coronets, pasterns, stockings, etc. Stripes like those seen on zebras are also common patterns on unicorns.
