Eyes. The constant burning stare of those cold and glassy eyes. A black glass encased in a metallic sheen gleaming from every corner, every crack, every inch of every room. Surrounded. It was not the stare of a human, one that when it went on for too long filled you with uneasiness, no, it was an emotionless vision, one that made your spine tingle and skin break out in a cold sweat. The neon glow of the desolate world flashed by, crumbled buildings and darkened sky, the motto scratched, paint peeling from the once high rise signage. You will be safe. The world was unsafe so we sought to make it safer, technology was the crux of their civilization so naturally it would be their tool to help it too. Mistakes, much like the uprising the machines took many eons ago, but we didn't learn, thought ourselves greater than technology, we held the power to make it after all. The spread of the eyes, little cameras no bigger than a ladybug, vigilant eyes around the world so no bad dead would go unpunished. It was one to each person in the beginning, then as crimes were committed and their people taken away the eyes moved to the next, then the next, continuous. The neverending stream of cameras watching our every movement, society fell into ruin but they remained with their goal, keeping us safe. Our protection made us mad, not mad as in angry, no, we slowly lost our minds with fear, hatred, regret. They watched us lose our minds too, we tried to hide, run, escape from those eyes, but no matter where we were they watched. I hate those eyes but there's one more problem…I am beginning to hate your eyes too.
