Mercury whispered, huddling closer to Argo. It was Argo's first time at the meeting of guardians. The ballroom jingled and rang with different types of bells that all the other guardians adorned. Today would be the day he got his bells, alongside his best friend Mercury. The jingling soon ceased as the older ones turned towards the group of young guardians. Argo puffed out his chest and rolled his shoulders back in attempt to seem more mature.

"Come forward," The elder guardian said, beckoning with a large paw towards the stage.

One by one, the young guardians received their signature bells. Finally, it was Argo's turn. One of the councilmen lifted up a necklace of bells that gave off the prettiest sound. The sound was gorgeous, and he came to realize he much preferred the way his bells chimed more than others. He bowed his head as the councilman slipped on the necklace. At long last, he was finally a true guardian and his work to protect the galaxies would soon begin.

Their soft, gentle tone drowned out the rest of the world, letting their mind be at ease...able to take everything in with stride. Walking into the interview was a new feeling. Never did I expect to be in a band that was worth sitting down with. The setup was warm and friendly. Crackling fire, soft rug, nice candle burning in front of us. What was that? Toasted marshmallow? Smelled lovely.

I looked at my band mates sitting to my left. Jethro had the biggest goofy grin. Sweat rolled down Chip’s face in beads. I looked back down at the table and thought about what got me here.

I remembered my dad. I didn’t grow up with much, but I had him. We’d sit by the fire, him in his chair, me on the floor by his feet. He’d pluck his guitar, singing bluegrass, accompanied by the acoustic “twang.” Then there was me and my cowbell.

My pops couldn’t afford the drums I always wanted, but he wanted to keep my musical dreams alive. So he got me my cowbell, and he made me feel like the best percussionist in the world when we played together. I missed him like crazy now, but I knew he was still looking down at me and smilin’.
