Chicoon #5
Name: Aegean
Prompt:
In the quiet morning light of a small chicoon den lived a very particular Choon named Aegean. A humble soul with a knack for transforming bees wax and herbal scents into godly candles. So mythical many travelled long and far for his beautiful candles. Some even say they were magic. His days began at dawn, gathering honeycombs from his own hives, a labour of love passed down through generations. He was devoted to his craft, rain nor shine could stop his paws from kneading the wax and honey apart.
With paw pads weathered from labouring and toil, Aegean melted the beeswax over a pine wooded fire which crackled and fizzed in the cold air. His soft face illuminated by the warm glow, his mind at ease as he simply cannot stop himself from enjoying his work... He mixed herbal oils - Pine, and northern herbs- infusing each batch with memories of wildflowers and mountain air, a peaceful paradise that tickles his nose.
The crafting process was a play of precision and artistry, limbs dancing to specific movements to shape his masterpieces. Aegean poured molten wax into moulds, patiently waiting for it to cool, which was easier done as he lined them outside his den, it wouldn't take too long to cool in the mountain air… he’d work slowly now to remove the moulds. Ensuring every candle emerged perfect. His den was more like a workshop, hidden deep in the mountain side, churning cliff sides and steep paths. an overflowing home filled with shelves displaying stained glass like candles, full of colours and scents, each one special and flooding your mind with places that have their likeness.
One dawn, when the lilies have sprouted, and the spring has come bursting into life, Aegean hitched a chicoon-drawn cart, loaded with crates of his handmade creations. A friend comes, one who’s helping him sell off his beautiful creations, one who will pull the cart… he needs the help! especially after spending all winter crafting them. With a twinkle in his eye and a coy smile, he travelled long roads, small spaces, through ridges and prairies, swamps and jungles. A journey taking him from homesteads to bustling town squares.
At the chicoon market, Aegean's stall became a signal of warmth amongst the scrambling chaos. He slowly stocks the candles, he barely gets them out before they are quickly swept up, chuckling and giggles befall upon him as other chicoons find his panicky movements amusing, especially when all his candles are replaced with a hefty amount of snail shells! His candles, the eye of the square arranged, called passersby with their soft glows and captivating smells, like a nose buffet. Each candle told its own fairytale, capturing many’s imaginations - the sweet innocence of white lilies, the tranquillity of the sea, or the nostalgia of oranges in a winter breeze.
His customers are diverse - from curious travellers from far and wide to loyal locals seeking the perfect gift for the holiday seasons. They marvelled at Aegean's craftsmanship, the candles' siren song doubled by his stories of their creation. The silent winter nights, the crackling fire, the love and passion. His genuine charm and simple love for his craft captured hearts, making each purchase more than just a transaction.
speech spread like will’o’wisps in the wind. Soon, Aegean's candles became an important tradition, to banish evil and allow the mind to be reborn. They lit homes during happy gatherings, offered comfort during quiet moments, and adorned tables at weddings, the flickering flames mimicking tail flames and dancing in celebration at all hours of the nights and days.
Aegean's talent extended beyond creating candles; it helped communities. Even as a shy chicoon he helped young artisans, passing on his wisdom, and his passion. Ensuring the tradition could spread, and go on. He often shared his talent with local artists, making something combined and special. infusing candles with their essence, turning each piece into art of shared creativity.
Seasons changed, but Aegean's dedication remained unwavering. He frankensteined scents to reflect the passing months - spring fields blooming with lavender, summer rain, babbling creeks, the seaside, autumn spices, pumpkin, orchards of sweet apples, and the comforting warmth of winter firesides, pine, and hot joco. His craft mirrored moon cycles, resonating with the souls of those who sought comfort in the stars above.
With time, Aegean's reach extended beyond the mountains and the small towns. Yet, despite his success, Aegean remained cemented in his humble beginnings, and there he stayed in his den, often enough giving away his snails and chicoins, only keeping what was necessary for him to have,
Amidst his thriving business, Aegean never lost sight of the simplicity and authenticity that defined his craft, that made him love and adore his craft. He continued tending to, and raising his hives, finding company in the buzzing symphony of bees and the aromatic promise of honey and wax. His joy stemmed not just from selling candles, but from kindling moments of warmth and connection in the lives of others.
Through the flickering flames of his candles, Aegean proclaimed more than mere light; he shared a piece of his SOUL, infusing candles with the spirit of the mountains he called home. In each delicate glow, he cast a symphony of hope, reminding all who encountered his creations of the simple, enduring beauty found in the heartfelt work of his paws and his heart.
