> PROMPT | (1005 words complete with Harbringer regretting being mean to Peat)
Harbringer strode into class with an uncharacteristic amount of embarrassment, given the prior day’s events. He had come in fairly late, head held low and wings covering up his face. The last thing he really wanted to do in this particular class was try to maintain a conversation. With coffee anew in hand, he had already begun to slowly but surely make his way to the very back of the class.
He had made it to his seat before noticing something rather important about today: It was a lot emptier than he remembered it being the day prior. That was odd. Like…super odd. The Chicoon knit his brow in confusion before noting something that was, perhaps, more important: Where was Mulch?
This question would be answered shortly by Peat, the smaller Chicoon coming up to explain that Mulch was out and about looking for supplies for lessons. Ah. That certainly made sense. Harbringer winced as he recalled just how much wiring he had ruined just trying to get his robot to even remotely function. He supposed this could partially be his fault. He also supposed, now that he took a look around, that he could’ve probably figured this out by reading the notice up on the wall. Yeah. That would’ve simplifed things.
Even still, Peat explaining today’s assignment made the Chicoon grumble softly. Really? That seemed boring-- and just as much, he really didn’t want to be here to BEGIN with. To what was probably Peat’s dismay, Harbringer was already getting up from his seat and heading back towards the door. Yeah. Maybe he’d work up the courage to do this in front of Mulch tomorrow. Who knows.
It wasn’t really until Harbringer was outside that he paused to stop and consider just what he was going to do with the rest of his day if he wound up skipping class. His next course wouldn’t be for several hours, after all, but if he went home now there was no way he was going to bother to come back at all for the rest of his classes. He’d rub at his head, taking a sip of his pumpkin spice coffee.
Okay. Maybe leaving the class without doing the assignment wasn’t exactly Harbringer’s best exit strategy. It was a bit mean to Peat. Not to mention that he could at least give some sort of excuse as to why he was leaving if he actually did the work and THEN stormed out. Right? That justified it?? With a silent sigh, the Chicoon began to make his way back across the campus grounds AGAIN to see about doing as Peat had initially asked him to do.
On his way though, he’d pick up another pumpkin spice latte. Why not, right?
Peat seemed a bit surprised to see that Harbringer had turned back up, the Chicoon setting the new latte on the front desk with an apologetic look. He wasn’t really sure if Peat drank coffee, or what he liked even if he did…but he was hoping the gesture would make up for his behavior at least a tiny bit. With that, he’d make his way to the back of the room once again and take a seat.
So he was to write up how he thought his first attempt at making a robot went. Right. He pulled out a piece of paper and a pencil, staring blankly at the empty lines. Honestly? It was about as big a train wreck as his attempt at an introduction yesterday. He knew he had wasted a lot of blueprint paper just trying to figure out what he wanted to do. He wasted even more wires than he knew what to do with thanks to his complete ineptitude at wiring things correctly.
Not to mention the fact that Harbringer had managed to somehow forget to even install a place for a power supply to go in the first place. That had set him back tremendously and required him to rebuild half of it-- twice, as the first attempt at rebuilding had resulted in damaging the rest of the robot. All in all? It was nothing short of a complete and total train wreck, and yet somehow he had put at least SOMETHING together.
Would he trust such a thing anywhere near his garden? Oh, most certainly not. Not in a million years, really. But was it at least a proof of concept? …barely, sure. It was a passable enough idea that just about anyone could probably do better, but it was in fact a solid concept. Shoddy wiring, shoddy soldering, shoddy…everything, really…but it got the job done at the bare minimum.
He would end the ‘report’ with the following phrase [If it had gone any worse, it wouldn’t have worked at all.] That about summed up most things Harbringer seemed to do at the Robotics Class, to be fair. The paper was completely filled front to back at this point-- a fact he hadn’t even really realized until he had finished it.
He certainly didn’t INTEND to write that much.
Ah well. At least Peat should be happy enough with this.
Harbringer would proudly march back up to the front, completed paper in hand as he’d set it down at the front desk. He took a good, long sip of his coffee, waving at Peat as he would once again go to ‘ditch class’. He didn’t realize that he had actually spent a good, long thirty minutes in there to be honest. It was less skipping class at this point and more like early dismissal, depending on one’s point of view.
As he went to go see about getting in a nap before his next class, a thought crossed his mind that he hadn’t quite considered. He was actually sort of beginning to…enjoy this? No. That couldn’t be right, could it? He’d shake his head, grumbling lowly as he’d climb up into a tree to go rest. No matter. He didn’t have to think about that thought until class time tomorrow.
