PROMPT | Max was a little disappointed to see that Mulch wasn't available for class today, but the rainbow Chicoon figured if their teacher was out getting more supplies that must mean future classes were going to be really fun! He sat for a moment and thought about what he should do. Max wanted to write about his experience building a robot yesterday, but he also wanted to help Mulch out by finding some more metal and wiring. But what to do first? He knew there were dumpsters all over campus that he could go scrounge around in to try and find some scraps. Was it better to do that first and then write?
The Chicoon scratched his head. Actually, maybe it would be better if he wrote first and then went and dug around in the garbage. Dumpsters weren't exactly known for being all that clean, so he would probably need to bathe after bringing his haul back to the classroom. His decision made, Max nodded to himself and then pulled his notebook and a pencil out and started to write. He wrote about how he made a round, flat robot in the shape of a coin with big, googly eyes and an antenna on top. The Chicoon added that he had given his robot wheels so that it could move, and when he had turned it on it made a cute little "voooom!" sound as it moved.
Pleased with what he wrote, Max left his page of writing on Mulch's desk and left to go look for the first dumpster to dive in. He figured it would be best to start on the other side of the campus and make his way back towards the robotics room. So Max started at the library. The dumpster there was mostly full of paper products. Not books but loose scraps of paper that looked like they'd been dumped by students who no longer needed their notes. Max dug around in all the paper, looking for any sort of metal or wires or anything he thought could be used for building robots. He found an empty cardboard box and started to fill it with the couple of cords he found that had probably been discarded from some of the library computers. Once he reached the bottom of the dumpster and had gotten all the goodies he could find, Max took his box and headed for the science building.
The science building had more than one dumpster, so Max got to work looking through them. Thankfully, it looked like all of the more harmful waste was taken care of elsewhere so he didn't have to worry about any broken glass or chemicals. These dumpsters were a smorgasbord of different items that Max thought could be useful. Cords, wires, metal scraps, egg cartons, plant trellises, even some strange doodads that Max wasn't sure what to call. His cardboard box was getting quite full of treasures! Maybe he wouldn't need to check out any other dumpsters now! [500 words]
