Jason tiled his head. He supposed he might as well do the assignment that was being asked of him. He sat in his newly claimed spot in the back of the class, pulling out a pencil and paper to write. How DID his robot building go yesterday? In his opinion, it went pretty well. He learned how to use some of the tools properly, learned a bit about the basics of how robots work, and he even made a bot that actually worked! It could only run in circles but it was still a decent start in his opinion. With that done, Jason handed the paper in. He wanted to get to work on some of the simpler parts of his robot. He'd start with the legs and their joints. Mulch had helpfully supplied Jason with some of the parts for them that he'd need and instructions on how to put them together, so all he had to do now was sit down and follow directions. It'd be like an advanced version of putting together C-IKEA (Chicoon IKEA) furniture. Jason was fairly adept at putting those together, so surely this wouldn't be too challenging. It had been a while since he'd messed up one of his C-IKEA builds, after all.
With the goal of getting at least one or two of the legs put together this time, Jason got his blueprints out. He carefully unrolled them on the workbench in front of him and leered down at them. Man, Mulch's writing was hard for him to read. He could still read it though, at least. He read through the directions once to make sure he understood them and had everything he needed. He didn't as it turned out - he was missing a specific type of screwdriver. With an annoyed grunt, he got up from his workbench to go see if he could borrow one from Peat. The smaller Chicoon seemed nervous around him, but pointed him over to the side where a communal toolbox was sitting out. He made a noise of gratitude and walked over to the toolbox to pick out the one he needed. New tool in hand, Jason returned to his workbench, only to find that all his stuff had been rearranged and put into a huge, messy pile! He growled, his eye catching on the smug smirk of the same scarred Chicoon from the day before. Of course he was behind this. Mulch had made it pretty clear that if he caught anyone messing with another person's project that they'd be auto-failed. Unfortunately he wasn't here to catch that other Chicoon messing with his stuff.
Whatever. Jason still had his blueprints and they'd been left untouched. So all he'd have to do was resort his parts, and it'd be fine. Thankfully his blueprints, and the notes that went with them, had detailed lists of what ever part was and which portion of the robot it belonged to. Lets see... the articulated bendy parts were obviously the knee joints. They matched up with the ones on the diagram after all. Jason but those over to the side to return to after he finished resorting everything. Small screws would be good to go in that little container, while the bigger ones would go in the other container. Rivets could go over by his tools, since he wouldn't be needing them today, and the nuts and bolts could be over there too as long as he kept them separated from the rivets. The springs and circuitry could go into the nice strong box to keep them safe from harm. Lights and wires too, but only after Jason wrapped the wires up neatly in to keep them from turning into a giant tangled mess. The sensors would be going into the OTHER box, the smaller, but stronger one. The sheet metal and plating, Jason sorted by size and how easy they could bend. He put the larger and harder to bend pieces on the outside of the smaller and easier to bend ones in order to keep things from getting messed up.
With that all sorted, literally, Jason finally got started on actually putting his pieces together. Honestly, it didn't event take as long as resorting all his materials had taken. Mulch's directions were very clear, if a bit hard to read, so he just followed along with what was written out. Even so, it still took him long enough that he ended up being one of the last Chicoons to leave the class. He didn't mind it much. It wasn't like he actually had anything he needed to do or anyplace he'd have to go after this class. So after he finished his work and cleaned his station up, he stuck around to help Peat clean the classroom. As much as Jason was supposed to be intimidating and scary - and he was - he at least learned some manners from his mother as a whelp. He could be nice and thoughtful when he wanted to. He didn't want to very often because most Chicoons didn't give him any reason to be nice or thoughtful towards them - case in point with Scarface - but Peat and Mulch seem decent and they're helping him with his goal of building a robot to ward campers off from his home, so he would be nice to them in return.
While cleaning, Jason went to return some supplies to the supplies closet and ended up finding those new boxes of metal and wiring that Mulch was looking for! It seems that someone had just misplaced them and forgot to let Mulch know. He called Peat over, nodding to the large boxes in the back of the closet. The smaller Chicoon seemed delighted at the discovery, and immediately scampered off to go call Mulch and inform him of their location. Now that he was done with everything, Jason locked up the box he kept all his supplies for the class in, grabbed his blueprints container and left to head back to where he was staying for the night.
