Announcement for Chicoons & the Archive

Hello everyone! Hello @/everyone! The archive is now fully reopened! It will be open for 2 weeks.
Why such a short time? The species will be taking a much-needed hiatus. After some recent situations, both on and offline, the moderation team decided it would be in our best interest to take a break from running Chicoons and focus on our mental and physical health. This break has been visible on the horizon for quite a while and it's time we finally take one.

So, what is happening?

Chicoons are temporarily closing.

We do plan to continue the species, but we will NOT be reopening on Chicken Smoothie. Some users may remember the hints we've made at moving Chicoons to a Lorekeeper website. When we reopen, we will be doing so on https://chicoons.com/. The website is currently not open to registration and is far from my goal of a sturdy website. However, I am not prioritizing working on the website as this hiatus is for a break rather than improvement for the species, as opposed to our 2023 hiatus.
There will not be a Winter Event this year.

I apologize for the disappointment, however, the 2024 Winter Event will not happen. Any smaller events that usually land during the hiatus (ex. Buzz and Sweathie birthday bashes) will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Archive updates will be halted

The Chicoons Archive and trades will be closed. It is discouraged to trade or sell a Chicoon during the hiatus but we understand that users will still trade Chicoons regardless. If you obtain a Chicoon during the hiatus, you will be required to prove you own the Chicoon when the species is reopened. Whether this proof is through the Chicoons Archive, a screenshot of you obtaining the Chicoon (similar to how our archive handles trade proof screenshots currently), a Toyhou.se ownership log, et cetera--you will not be able to own the Chicoon on our website if you cannot prove the Chicoon is yours. Additionally, if you obtain a Chicoon that is not owned by the user listed in the archive, it is recommended you obtain proof of ownership from the seller as well.
The nursery, main adopts, and archive threads will be closed.

Artists may still participate in theme-specific Chicoon batches similar to the end of V2, and Birthday events may still be hosted. The bulk of our designing, however, will be paused.
How long will the hiatus be?

It is currently undecided. All three moderators have important life circumstances to focus on right now besides Chicoons. The website also needs a lot of work done before it can open. It would be a lot easier to null everybody's items and MYOs, but I doubt anyone would want that, so alas, we must take the time.
What can I look forward to during the hiatus?

Once the website is sturdy, I will be accepting beta testers. This will start with Staff and users who are boosting the discord server, but will open up to the general community later on. Adopts may still be posted occasionally. There will also be a restructuring of our MYO format that we are excited to reveal in time.
What can I do to prepare for the end of the hiatus?

1. Confirm the Chicoons listed under your User ID in the Archive are yours. Utilize the CTRL+F feature!
2. Review your Chicoons to make sure you're listed as their owner in the Archive.
3. Update your personal item archives/logs/trackers. Items will carry over to the website and you will need to provide proof of ownership
4. Transfer your Chicoons! There are a lot of ungrown nursery batches out there- transferring them now will save you plenty of time and grief.
Why are we leaving Chicken Smoothie?

The main reason Chicoons will be transferring to our own domain is to grow as a species. Existing on Chicken Smoothie means that users who are interested in Chicoons but not CS have to learn a new website format and are beholden to its moderation. This is confusing and frustrating for many.

CS is a website with its own community and moderation structure, and Chicoons has become large enough that we need to separate from that. We hope to improve community management in ways that we felt we could not do under CS moderation. This will not be an easy migration, and we will be doing our best to make it as smooth as possible.

I never participated in Chicoons (or many closed species), but I'll miss seeing the little guys around! It's an end of an era for CS. Happy trails in all your endeavors though!! ^^

I haven't interacted all too much with these little guys, but it truly has been a good time!! 3 versions and these little guys have evolved so much,, even onto a new website !! super intrigued to see where chicoons go,,

I will miss you guys posting art and stuff constantly, but with growth comes change! Wishing all Chicoon owners and future owners luck. I never had my own Chicoon, but I always really loved seeing all the ones made and following the Chicoon artists. You guys are awesome! Hopefully your real life issues are settled quickly and with the best results <3
