i've decided to...
Evergreen tried reading a book about repairing machinery during a break from working on the ride. They did not understand most of it, but they think they kind of have an idea of the basics now. Enough where they at least feel comfortable taking another look at the section of the ride Ripsaw had been working on. Maybe they still will not be able to fix it, but they would never know if they never try, right? So Evergreen returns to the ride with a determined expression, only to be met by Sink who tells them that Ripsaw is not allowed to be here right now. Evergreen had been hoping to ask Ripsaw what he had already tried, but they suppose it is not a big deal if they end up repeating things that have already been attempted. Besides, Ripsaw did seem pretty tired yesterday, Evergreen wanted him to be able to get some much needed rest.
Examining the section of the ride that had been taken apart, Evergreen is amazed to realize they actually understand some of it now! They are able to make a few fixes, or at least they are pretty sure they were fixes. There were still several things they did not quite understand, after all. Once they think it looks alright, Evergreen heads over to the control panel and presses the button to try to turn the ride on. The lights on the ride's machinery light up this time! They are even changing colors! However, the ride itself still is not moving at all. It seems their work is still not done. Evergreen sighs; looks like it is time to hit the books again. Maybe they should try to find one with pictures? That would probably help, assuming they can find a book specifically about carnival rides.
Just as they are about to head to the bookstore, however, they remember what Sink said. Oh, right, they are supposed to keep an eye out for Ripsaw to make sure he does not come back to work on the ride on his day off. Evergreen really should have brought that book with them. Maybe they can rush to the bookstore and back and no one will notice? The only other alternative is to just keep messing with stuff and hope they are not making it worse, so they decide to give it a shot. Thankfully, Ripsaw is not present when Evergreen returns with the most seemingly relevant book they could find during a brief and anxious search. Sitting down beside the ride, they begin reading, occasionally glancing up from the book to make sure Ripsaw is nowhere nearby.
Despite everything,

Heya, I'm Eevee!
Thank you so much to twinkle! for the adorable avatar!
It's still you.

Submission stormed over to Lucky, frustrated. "Forgive me, but you didn't even do anything! All you did was rip out everything and undo the progress you made! You could've fixed it this time!" they called. Lucky turned around, frowning. "Look, I tried. 'All I did' was grab a cat's tail and rip out all the screws. If you want me to dig in it again and destroy it, I can do just that. My advice, as an 'official mechanic,' is to just replace the ride with a new one. Maybe even pony rides! Hear those bring in a lot of money."
Submission furrowed their brow, opening their mouth to speak. Sink shook their head and Submission decided to go check out some other rides instead. Sink trudged forward, putting a paw on his shoulder. "Hey, man. We paid you. Don't be so hurtful. Put your cat away and work."
Grinning sarcastically, Lucky set his cat on Sink's shoulders and trotted mockingly over to the toolbox. He reached inside and pulled out a screwdriver. A hour or two passed and Sink was off playing with Coinflip while Lucky was working his tail off. Rubbing his forehead and sticking his tongue out at an angle, he continued twisting and tightening screws. It was so repetitive! A screw came loose and he shoved it into the screw compartment of the toolbox.
He decided to go rewire it instead. Every screw was tightened. Moving over to the box full of wires, he muttered to himself about how ungrateful they were that someone even showed up. Sink looked up and glared as if they heard him. "Ouch!" he yelped. He looked down, lifting one of his back paws. Wedged in his paw pads were many shards of tiny, yellow-orange glass shards part of a light that fell of the machine.
Huffing and puffing, he grabbed a spare light from the toolbox and screwed it back into the side of the ride. He noticed two Chicoons with their tails wrapped around each other were waiting in front of the ride. He looked back at them. "Nope. Ride's closed. Come back in about a week!" The couple turned around and left.
Opening the box of wires, he noticed that there were multiple copper wires ripped apart with the orange inside poking out and nearly brushing his thin fur. "Yikes. Don't wanna touch that..." he whispered. "Ughhhhh. Sink! I need something to replace the wires!" Sink ran over. "I'll have to go check in the warehouse. You'll have to rewire the whole thing. I'll just get Ripsaw to do it. Just poke a little fun at him."
"Instead, you can go and clean up some trash around the park. If you see Ripsaw tell him he has a whole lot of work to do on the machine," they chuckled. He sighed and nodded, walking off. Eyes darting around he spotted enough trash to fill a dumpster. Over by the ferris wheel, a shattered, buzzing phone sat on the hot cement. He picked it up and dropped it directly into a trash bag.
On the way to a roller coaster, he found some rusting metal, candy that hadn't been eaten and was still in it's wrappers, and some lost sunglasses. He jokingly tried them on. He couldn't even see with them, it was SO dark! How did anyone even wear these? He immediately threw them away promising to never ever ever wear them again.
Continuing he noticed Ripsaw throwing a bag of cotton candy onto the ground. "THIS IS NOT THE FLAVOR I ORDERED!!!" he shouted at the Chicoon running a cotton candy stand. "L-look sir. I'm gonna need you to put your teeth away and I can get you a whole 'nother batch. Just please, don't bite anybody!" The furious Chicoon looks over and sees Lucky. "Don't-hate-me-but-you-have-to-rewire-the-entire-ride-according-to-Sink-K-thanks-bye!!!!!" he spat quickly before running to a different food stand.
After many broken metal rods, plushies and lost toys, litter, and even a wet floor sign that was laid on the ground, he returned back to the broken ride he was supposed to fix. There, he saw an extremely angry Ripsaw ripping away wires. He didn't really understand how he wasn't getting electrocuted, but didn't decide to ask. He already knew that he was angry with him for his lack of ability to fix this ride after 5 days. He knew they were losing money because of him!
"Well, I think it's time for my lunch break! Cya!" Before anyone could stop him, he lifted his cat, Coinflip, and ran to a burger and hotdog stand. [765 words]

Max should have known how dirty the work of fixing a carnival ride would be. He'd ended up going home yesterday covered in greasy smears and patches of dust. His mate, Mirabel, had not been all too happy to see him come home looking such a mess. Of course, once he told her the reason why he was all dirty, she'd been a little more forgiving. Though, she still thought he was a silly goose for going along with the idea that he could fix the ride and hadn't just straight up told the other Chicoons that he didn't know what he was doing.
The rainbow Chicoon grabbed the tool box where he'd left it and went back to the carousel. He'd done plenty of digging around in the control panel yesterday and had spent some time in the evening after he got home looking up information about wires and electricity and how carousels worked. While he still wasn't one hundred percent certain he knew was he was doing, he had at least picked up a little bit of knowledge that might help him here. This time, the wires didn't look like quite such a mess, as he'd sorted through them and straightened them out all neatly.
He grabbed a flashlight and propped it inside the cubbyhole so he could see what he was doing better. The wires were in various colors. White. Black. Red. Green. Blue. There was even one yellow one. From the little information he'd gleaned from his researching, there should be corresponding colored holes in the back of the cubbyhole where the metallic fitted ends of each wire connected. There were various differently shaped ends on all the wires. The one yellow wire was the easiest to find and connect.
Max tried tackling the two white ones next. Fortunately for him, each white wire had different ends so it was just a process of finding which holes the ends fit into correctly. The black wires were going to be the hardest to figure out, as there were quite a handful of them which all had the exact same fitting on the end. He checked the three red and five green wires next. All of them had different ends, as well. What a relief that was! Max began matching the ends of the wires to the various colorful holes in the back of the cubbyhole, trying not to think about how much trial and error it was going to take to see if he could get the black wires into the correct places. Bit of a nightmare! [430 words]

i've decided to...
Onyx makes the decision to keep tinkering with the ride when he returned the next day. He wasn't very knowledgeable on the other chicoon, his job, his identity, or anything else. He was late to the ride fixin' party after all. And he was rather impatient to get onto the ride. His attempts to fix it seemed to have been unsuccessful as the ride was still down. He pondered.. He knew his lack of knowledge on this topic would hurt his attempts at fixing the ride. But how else was he supposed to do anything for it? He wanted to ride it so bad. He admired the winding, colorful tracks and the loops and spins that the ride put its passengers through. Should he consult someone who actually may know what they're doing, or would it be faster to do it himself? Maybe the wait for the ride to be fixed wouldn't be so bad if he kept trying and actually learned something from the experience.
Onyx got up onto the ride and was brave enough to scale some of the tracks to examine the happenings of it. The tracks seemed fine. They were sturdy and stood firm, they didn't creak or teeter, or anything of the sort. He thought maybe his attempts at fixing the ride previously had helped and he gave himself a little mental 'pat on the back.' There was definitely more work needed, as that seemed to be the usual for this ride. Onyx continued to examine the workings of the ride.
He found himself in the entrance of the ride where the control panel was. To find the problem, he assumed he would need to see the ride's workings in motion. He made sure the rollercoaster's cars were off the tracks before making it to the control panel. Oh boy, the interface was something he had never seen before. It was decorated in buttons and levers and he couldn't figure out which kind he needed to push or pull.
He ran his fingers across the interface lightly to get a feel for the buttons. He had the urge to press every single one, but he didn't know what he was capable of doing if he decided to do that. He was able to refrain from doing so. His eyes were especially drawn to the big red button and the big red lever, and the lights on the top of the interface. He brought a finger to the red button and decided to press it, bracing himself for whatever it may do. It seemed this button controls the lights and audio of the ride, as the speakers began to play music and the neon lights that decorated the ride had began to dance and flash. He hit it again; he didn't need the audio working, he needed the ride itself to do its thing.
Onyx then pulled the big red lever, which turned on the track's chains. He could hear the chains begin to move and the sound of the tires and gears that made up the ride's structure whirred. The chain's movement didn't sound normal at all. It clicked too many times. You usually don't hear the chains until a car reaches them, and the fact you could hear the chain clicking means that something was definitely wrong. Onyx knew that at the very least. He went to enough theme parks to know what it should sound like.
He turned the ride off again before heading over to look at the chains on the slope that pulled the cars up before the big fall- it'd be better to have the ride off incase he had to get hands-on with it. He was also a bit scared of his fur or tail getting stuck within the mechanism. The chain looked fine to him, but honestly he wasn't very informed on what a rollercoaster chain should look like. He decided to get hands on and put his paws into the chain. He felt around and noticed some loose parts and.. something fluffy? He drew his hand back out quickly and tried to take a look at the things he had touched, but they were hidden down in there.
He sighed. "Okay, I think this is enough for one day. Ripsaw needs to return sometime soon. I probably shouldn't mess with this anymore.."
Onyx was still grossed out by the hairy thing he had touched on the ride. He left the ride and went to wash his hands clean of whatever he had touched. Afterward, he treated himself to a nice cold treat at one of the local booths. He couldn't get his eyes off of the glorious attraction as he spent time at the carnival and caught up with some friend. The fact that he was closer to figuring out the problem itched at him.. [808 words i had a little fun again]

"Well, that's it." Arlo sighs to himself. "Nobody's coming to help me. This is pointless." Arlo kicks up the dirt while pitching a hissy fit in his irritation and ends up making himself sneeze again. The only useful thing he feels he can do is watch out for Ripsaw and make sure he stays away from the ride. Since he has nothing he can do with the ride at this point he decides to designate himself as a hall monitor of sorts. He'll just keep an eye for Ripsaw and attempt to draw him away if he sees him. It's his break time! Why would he insist on continuing to torture himself with trying to repair the ride when it very obviously stresses him out?
In an effort to keep himself occupied he walks around and observes the other Chicoons around him in deep thought. Everyone does seem to be having a good time here. How he wishes to join them instead of having the responsibility of taking on the role of mechanic. It wouldn't hurt to slip away and grab a bite to eat, would it? He is getting quite hungry...
"I'll be quick about it. I have to eat something or my stomach's gonna eat itself." He mutters to himself quietly, setting aside the tools he's currently holding in his hands and speeds over to a nearby ice cream stand. His mouth waters at all the different flavor options on display and he hops up and down excitedly. The Chicoon in charge of the stand greets him with a smile and a wave. "Well hello there! How can I help you? We have all different kinds of sweets and treats available here to choose from! Cookies, ice cream, popsicles, cupcakes, you name it! What would you like?" They chirp out in a friendly and welcoming voice. Arlo smiles happily and sweeps his gaze over everything he can see. Since he's a bit on the short side he has to stand on his tip-toes to see everything. His wings flap wildly when his eyes land on the jumbo chocolate chip cookies and his stomach rumbles loudly.
"Ooh, may I get one of those, please?" He points at a cookie on display and the vendor chuckles. "Why, of course! These are one of our best sellers! Everyone loves 'em." They grab a cookie and slip it into a wrapper so the chocolate won't melt into your fur or on your hands. They then turn back to Arlo and smile. "Can I get you anything else, bud?" They ask.
Arlo thinks for a few seconds while taking a big mouthful of his cookie and then points to a tub of mint chocolate ice cream. "Some of that too, please!" The vendor giggles and nods his head before walking over to the glass. "Would you like it in a cup or a cone?" They inquire. Arlo doesn't need to think about this question. He already knows his answer.
"Cone, please! Waffle if you have them! They're my favorite!" The vendor leans over and high fives Arlo. "That's right! That's what I'm talking about! One waffle cone coming right up. One scoop or two?" Arlo knows he really shouldn't since he's still got a whole cookie pizza to eat but he just can't help himself.
"Two!" He answers excitedly. He's hungry and he loves sweets. Don't judge him! After handing the cone and a napkin to him he pays for his food and waves goodbye to the vendor. Thanking him for the treats. He continues to dig into his cookie on his way back and spots Ripsaw wandering a little too close to the ride he's suppose to be taking a break from. Nope, not happening! He scarfs the rest of his cookie down and rushes over while clutching onto his already melting ice cream cone. He has to figure out a way to keep him away. Does he like ice cream? Maybe he can bribe him with some... He better go find Sink just in case, though. He's not exactly sure how to deal with Ripsaw and quite frankly he intimidates him. The last thing he wants to do is make him angry. He doesn't like acting like a tattle tale as it makes him feel childish but he IS suppose to be on break and he WAS told to say something if he found him. He shakes his head to rid him of his doubt and plaguing thoughts and rushes to go find Sink or Eon.

Nutmeg walked back to the tent, going inside with a smile on her face. Last time her and her new friend actually managed to get some work done! She was still a bit confused, but after reading over the manual with a comically oversized magnifying glass and consulting one of her cousins who happened to be a mechanic, she actually learned a bit and managed to fix up the machine... or so she thought.
As Nutmeg approached the ride panel she was working on she was optimistic. She glanced around for a moment. The chicoon she was working with said she'd meet up with her when she had time, but she wasn't here yet. Oh well, she'd start anyway. Opening the panel, she was greeted with... torn wires and loose screws.
"Huh? I don't remember it looking like this last time..." Nutmeg whispered to herself in confusion. Everything inside was messed up! It didn't look like it was done on purpose with the way the wires were ripped, but it was still destroyed. Nutmeg sighed in frustration. All of that work for nothing. "Maybe it'd be better if I just went back to my place and baked some more sweet bread." Just as nutmeg turned around and began to walk away, the she was working with yesterday bumped into her.
"Woah there! What's up? Why the sad face?" The chicoon asked. Nutmeg opened her mouth to reply, but instead decided to stand back and show her. As soon as she caught the sight of the torn wires the chicoon's eyes widened and she exclaimed- "What in tarnation!? What happened!? We made so much progress yesterday!" Nutmeg shook her head, her wings drooping as she glanced back at the panel. "I know... had the same reaction a moment ago. I think someone else tried to fix it up but, well... y'know." "I know. Guess we'll just have to start over." The chicoon started walking up to panel but Nutmeg didn't follow.
"I think I'm just gonna take a break for now. Working on this has taken a lot of brain power, and my brain needs to recharge." The chicoon looked a little upset but she nodded. She turned away from the panel and walked next to Nutmeg. "If ya wanna take a break then I'll come with you. I think I could use one too. Wanna go to that churro stand nearby? I could certainly use something sweet right about now." The idea of chowing on some churros made Nutmeg smile, and she nodded. As the two walked out of the tent Nutmeg turned to the chicoon. "I never got your name yesterday. Just realized I didn't introduce myself either! I'm Nutmeg!" The chicoon glanced at her and gave her a toothy smile. "I'm Cherry. Pleased to make your acquaintance."

Everett tried to follow Sink’s rambling, but quickly learned that it was no use trying. They zoned out after Sink’s second sentence. However, they did pick up on the fact that Ripsaw was on a well deserved break. “Well, I’m glad to hear that Ripsaw is resting today. The poor fellow seemed a bit frustrated yesterday.” Everett spoke to Sink, but quickly found that their audience had vanished. “Hey, where did you go?!” They called out into the open air, their voice echoing against the metal rides. Sighing, Everett trudged back over to their spot next to the broken ride. “I think I deserve a break too. There is no chance I fix this ride without some help.” They shrugged and pulled out a Pop Tart from their knapsack.
