Gravel was feeling quite burnt out, three days on end and little to no progress had been made. Not to mention that his expertise was in breaking stuff like ores, this job wasn't even meant for him! Etch felt pretty disheartened after hearing Ripsaw and Eon’s conversation. It felt like he had been giving it his all trying to find a solution to fixing the ride. Although he didn’t know what he was doing, he was trying. Truthfully, the entire situation was starting to drain him physically and mentally. He tried to think of what he could do next, but ultimately chose to take a break for the day. Etch decided to go home and recharge. Maybe a a nice long nap would refresh him and allow him to have a few new ideas.

currently day four

once again, you seem drawn back to attempting to fix this ride. you slip behind the booth and spot ripsaw messing around with it. you watch as he somehow unscrews parts with his teeth and messes with wires. he seems quiet tired, as if he'd been there hours before opening. he'd slip into the control booth, pressing things but still nothing works. after a few moments he'd leave, a face sourer than before. strange.
you'd go to see what he had done while you were away, but 'eon' would stop you. they also seemed very, very tired. "hey! uh, just popping over to say ignore ripsaw." they'd love their voice "...he's in an awful mood." picking their voice back up they'd sigh "i'd love to help but i need to keep on eye on him in case he does something stupid... again." they'd look at the shed. it had been completely rumaged and in much more of a state than it was before. "go find sink if you need me, he'll probably know!" they'd run off without another word. you were left alone, again.

so... what will you do today?

Clean up the shed, maybe starting off the repairs with a neat and organized shed would make everyone happy and the task of fixing the ride much easier!

After seeing the blue Chicoon run off, Korbl looked at the messy shed. As he looked back over towards the ride, then back to the shed, he began to think to himself. What could he do that would be most beneficial for today? The Chicoon sat down and pawed at the grass beneath his paws while his mind was deep in thought.

He could continue to try and fix the ride...but already going on four days of trying, maybe it was best to leave it for today. The shed on the other hand, looked like it needed some cleaning up and sorting. Korbl did enjoy making things organized and all orderly! He smiled and nodded, beginning to walk over to the metallic shed. He stepped inside and gently began to pick up some bolts and screws he saw laying on the ground, putting them back into a drawer that held other similar looking items. It would be quite a challenge to get the shed all sorted out...but he was up to the task and ready to give it his all!

Blueberry tilted his head to the side. " That.. was weird. " He turned back to the ride and inspected it. Nothing was too different than he left it, so he started back up again on attempting to fix it. After days of working at the ride to no avail, things started to become hopeless. He found himself slowing down, and his excitement had waned. More than anything, he just wanted to go enjoy the carnival, yet here he was, tightening screws aimlessly. After a couple of more minutes in the heat, he dropped his tools with a loud sigh and started to walk away from the ride. " I give up. " He spat, before nearly literally running into 3 other chicoons, who looked down at him with interest. " You're the mechanic who's fixing this ride, right? " One of them spoke up with a smile. Blueberry lowered his head a little. " Yes, but I haven't gotten very far. " There was a tint of shame in his voice as he pawed at the ground. " Yeah, we can see that! " Another one piped up, and the first chicoon elbowed that one to hush him up. Finally, the third chicoon spoke. " We actually have some exprience in this department. We were wondering if you needed any help. " Blueberry's eyes lit up, and he honked loudly, all of his excitement coming back at once. " Yes, lets go! Thank you, thank you!! "

The four chicoons made good use of their time, each of them targetting a different possible issue with the ride. Hopefully, the four of them would be able to accomplish something. " Four is so much better than one! "

i've decided to...

rushing back into his spot after ripsaw had left, ladybug stared at the ride, raising his finger to his chin. after he was unable to find any chicoons to tell him the real problem, he was determined to find out himself and fix this damn ride. he wouldn't stop at anything no matter what. okay, maybe he'd stop at a bag of chips. or popcorn. an apple sounds pretty good right now too...
snapping back to reality, ladybug clambered onto the ride. maybe he could get a better view of the issue from inside the actual thing. still, nothing popped out to him that would signal the problem, and just as he was about to get out of the ride, some chicoons diverted their path as they chattered loudly, to start passing by the ride. he didn't want to get caught, if they knew the real mechanic or something and they called him out. so, he lay down on his back, holding his breath and hoping they wouldn't suspect anything.
thankfully, they passed by soon enough. but as he sat upright to watch them walk away, his heart dropped. one of the chicoons in the group was carrying a toolbox. and as far as his little chicoon brain knew, mechanics carried toolboxes. surely ripsaw would find that chicoon soon enough, and his mechanic days would be over. and he didn't want that to happen. nuh-uh. not today.
jumping out of the pendulum ride, ladybug headed over to the shack. locking the door, he began to sort the pile of tools ripsaw had left behind. surely a little cleaning would help get his mind off of the mess he had gotten himself into. it wasn't reaally doing anything that helped the situation, but procrastination is always nice.
suddenly, ladybug began wondering. why hadn't that chicoon with the toolbox come to fix the ride in the first place. maybe they just... liked toolboxes? his heart began pounding a little less, but he still felt like every single chicoon in the world could hear it.
he had to stop. he needed to get this stupid pendulum ride fixed, and then he could admit everything. that seemed like a sound plan, so he grabbed a handful of tools from the pile he was sorting, and burst out of the door, setting his tools down and hurrying over towards the ride, filled with new determination.

Approaching the curious carnival workers, Pebble inquired about the enigmatic ride, his voice a warm rumble that carried a sense of curiosity. They exchanged glances, intrigued by the sight of a very small chicoon showing interest in their creations. Pebble's inquisitiveness was contagious, and the workers found themselves sharing tales of the ride's glory days, when it was the star of the carnival. But now, time had left its mark, and the ride sat in a state of melancholic disrepair, its lights dim and its mechanisms quiet.

Pebble's heart stirred as he listened to their words, empathy mingling with his curiosity. Though he hadn't come with the intention of fixing anything, a desire to help kindled within him. The workers' stories of how the ride had once brought joy to countless faces resonated with him deeply. His keen eyes scanned the ride's structure, his mind working to understand the mechanics that had once brought it to life.

Without a word, Pebble set to work, his paws and wings moving with grace and purpose. He examined wires and gears with an understanding that seemed to transcend the ordinary. As the sun traced its arc across the sky, Pebble's fascination with the mechanisms deepened. The gentle hum of his rumble accompanied his exploration, a harmony of curiosity and expertise that painted the air.

As twilight embraced the carnival grounds, the ride's enigmatic aura did not return. The muted lights flickered here and there, casting a soft glow that danced along the edges of darkness. The workers stopped here and there to watch as Pebble tried desperately to fix this ride. Though he hadn't set out with the intention of fixing the ride, he desperately wanted to help these workers get this ride back up and running. Pebble tried his hardest but everything he did seemed to not work, feeling frustrated and exhausted Pebble called it a day. He apologized to the workers but he swore he would be back to give it another chance.

Evergreen is surprised to see Ripsaw unscrewing part of the ride when they return after heading to the local store to try to find something they could use to help remove the fallen bar. They had not had much luck, but that is the least of their concerns now that they see how tired and upset Ripsaw seems. They try to think of something reassuring to say, but they are not able to come up with anything and Ripsaw soon leaves the area.
Then Eon appears, looking equally tired, and explains that Ripsaw is in a bad mood as well as pointing out the mess Ripsaw apparently made in the shed. Evergreen feels bad; maybe they should have just told Eon they were not a maintenance worker in the first place, then the two Chicoons could have called a real maintenance worker and the ride might have been fixed by now... But before Evergreen can think of how to explain that, Eon has left as well.
Well, it seems it is all up to Evergreen again. Examining the section of the ride Ripsaw was adjusting, Evergreen quickly realizes they are way out of their element. Their already low self esteem sinking further, Evergreen moves on to the shed. If they are not able to fix the ride, the least they can do is reorganize the shed so that someone who does know what they are doing will be able to fix it quickly. It does not take Evergreen too long to sort all of the tools back into a more orderly array. As they finish, Evergreen notices a wrench that seems to be the perfect size to fit around that bar they had been trying to fix before.
Grabbing the wrench with a hopeful smile, Evergreen decides that at the very least, they can fix the parts of the ride they do understand. They rush back over to the ride and carefully get to work, using the wrench to help them push the bar back into place where it was supposed to be. Fortunately, they spot a screw on the ground nearby and realize it had probably fallen when the bar fell out of place. Evergreen runs to the shed to get a screwdriver and secures the bar in place. Okay, so that part is fixed! However, the victorious feeling is short-lived when Evergreen realizes they still have no idea what to do about the section of the ride Ripsaw was working on earlier.

Watching as Eon left, Nutmeg stood around, holding a basket of sweet bread and pound cake. She wasn't sure what else to do other than bake treats and bring them in. She had zero clue on how to do maintenance or anything, so she felt a bit bad. But she felt a bit better when she remembered that half of the others here didn't know what they were doing either. She still wanted to do something other than baking though, so after she handed out all of her treats Nutmeg picked up one of the ride manuals nearby and flipped through it.

And... nothing. At the beginning she understood some of it but at some point she got lost. Well lost is an understatement. She felt pretty bamboozled. The pictures didn't exactly help either. She figured maybe one of the diagrams would make things easier, but the only thing she got from it was that she'd need a screwdriver. It's a start at least! Strolling up to the toolshed Nutmeg opened the door before rummaging around for a screwdriver. In the end she ended up taking one of the extra tool boxes, just in case.

Walking up to the ride, Nutmeg opened up one of the hatches, flinching as she saw some of the wires. She sighed and picked up the manual again, flipping through it until she got to the page that detailed where you'd use the screwdriver. It mentioned that you'd need to unscrew a couple of bolts and open up a hatch deeper inside? But then what about the wires?? She got to another page but didn't understand that either! Nutmeg almost gave up then and there but luckily someone nearby noticed her confused stare and walked over, offering to assist her. They stated that they were as clueless as her but would at least help out in anyway they could. Greatful for the help, both Nutmeg and the other chicoon began to work.
