Prompt:
The weather was the first thing that they had learned about at first.
It has been...years...many years since they were trapped in that place. Dark, damp and....desolate- it seemed that all was lost- including their sense of time. There was nothing to keep track of the rising and setting sun- and the moon in all her glory. They haven't seen either the sun or moon- they have only heard about it in passing conversations above. Up above from where they dwelled. Heavy pawsteps echoed throughout the dark walls that kept them trapped there...waiting.
"It is said that the moon controls the waves."
What kind of control? They wondered as they followed the footsteps. "Well, techincally yes, but there is something called a tidal force," the voice paused. They seemed to be a know-it-all. "The moon's gravitational pull generates it- the tidal force. The moon will pull the water towards itself and then back out to the other side... Think of it as...a tug-of-war between the moon and an invisable force. Heck, you can even say the sun-...."
Ah yes, the sun. How could they forget? They had longed the warmth of the sun when they had first heard of it.
"The sun is blazing hot today."
Blazing hot? What is that supposed to mean...is it hotter than this room right now? The plate dragon slowly manuvered its way around the cold and dark complex that it called his home. He had gotten used to weaving through the dark, trying his best not to bump into things so he could tail their conversation much longer than before.
"Well," the same voice who gave a lecture about the moon drew out that word as if they were thinking, "The heat index is currently...101 Fehrenheit...or 38 Celsius." They wheezed before falling silent.
The other one groaned in dismay, "And is it's only 89 out?!?!?! Feels like the world is against us."
They both laughed at that comment before falling silent. They have entered another room- and he had hit a roadblock- unable to go any further. Although, he took this time to think, trying to figure out these....new things that he was learning. He sat there...and waited...and waited...and waited...until they returned, walking the oppisite direction from where they came.
"There has been no luck finding him," one of them whispered, defeated.
Finding who? He stared up at the ground above him, wanting to verbally ask this question to the ones who passed.
"We'll find him, it'll take some time," the other one reassured.
Well- whover it was that they were trying to find, he hoped that they were found soon enough.

After a few months of walking back and forth and back and forth and back and forth, there was finally a break in this cycle.
"The storm is getting nearer- I think it is a CAT three, slowly becoming a CAT four- at least."
They're talking about hurricanes. They got to be. Something that he has learned throught their conversations. He has learned about how the form and what desturction they can do when they become a major one. Three is quite bad- reaching up at a devastating winds at 111-129 miles per hour, but that doesn't beat the fourth and fifth catagories. Reaching up to 130-156mph, that is your catagory four. 157 and above? Well, that is your catagory five. Such destruction can and will occur- with the area being left uninhabited for awhile.
Honestly he was more interested in the hurricanes at this point- that he decided to name himself, C4T-5 Hurricane.
-----
As more days past, there was finally
something. WHat was it? A new conversation about the weather?...No, he haven't heard their voices in months- not after the hurricane came and went.
No. Instead it was a small, but a steady stream of a warm glow. When he first spotted it, the glow illuminated only a portion of the room that he was in. Furinture, papers and many objects were scattered throughout the room. C4T-5 Hurricane only remembered a portion of this room...of
what was this room.
About five days in of staring at this stream of glow, he decided to test it out...extending a paw out towards it. It was...warm. Was this the sun that has been spoken about? He moved foward and sat under it, looking around. It didn't hurt- it wasn't too hot...but it was a change from the cold that he has been living in.
-----
After a few weeks, the cracks above have been growing larger and larger, eventually caving in and revealing more of the room that he dwelled in. The debris from the ground above allowed him started to pile up.
Was this it?
At this point he hasn't had made an attempt on climbing the pile. Instead he decided to admire the outside world from this little cave. He loved how the green leaves from the trees swayed in the breeze- as if waving at him- greeting him...beckoning him...although as tempting as it sound, he hasn't caved in.
-----
Little by little, the robotic plate dragon had made progress. The curiousity of the outside world was overwhelming, he
had to know what it was like.
At first, he climbed up a small porition of the debris, only to retreat once the ground underneath him started to crumble. At his second tried, he climped up a good portion- only to once again retreat when water started to fall from the sky.
Rain. Something that the two voices had talked about. Usually very common during hurricane season. Did this mean there was a hurricane coming?...No...the winds aren't strong enough. C4T-5 Hurricane took in a deep breath and sighed, watching the rain pour down, waiting for it to come to an end.
And it did. The third attempt, he was king of the mountain. He manged to climb to the top of the pile and take in the sights that was gifted to him. Lush green grass, still wet from the previous night's storm. He didn't know that thunderstorms could be so loud!...And yet, beautiful.
It warm- something that he quite enjoyed the first time that he emerged. He looked up to the sky- a quite a stark blue color with clouds rolling up above. For a moment, he was thrown into darkness once again, but it soon cleared up. He stared up at the blinding light, only to suddenly shift when something flew by, casting a small but quick shadow.
He chriped at the creature but didn't get a response back...well, that was okay. He was sure that they were going to meet again...someday.
He stared at the spot where the creature was last seen, but moved along, not going far at first. He eventually returned to the cave when the sun started to fall to the west. It was something intresting. How the sky turned into multiple shades of pinks and reds. He wanted this moment to last forever- but of course he didn't get his wish as soon as the land was soon covered in darkness...but not for long.
Milloions- no billions of tiny lights started to appear one by one. Twinkling and shining. Was that the moon?...No. He looked around the sky and saw a small silver of light in the sky. White. almost blinding. It glowed amonst the stars and stayed in the east. Bugs of many sang and chirped- there were even little dots of yellow lights emitting from their behinds. He sat there, watching as one perched on his nose.
What were these called again? he thought as he aimlessly raised a paw to the bug, watching it fly away in an instant at the sudden movement.
"Lightning bugs.", A voice rang out. And then laughter. He looked around and saw no one. Not one creature in sight that made that sound.
"They're also called fireflies. Or lampyridaes. They are nocturnal. You cannot see them during the day- although they do like to rest on some foliage." He remembered the voice- the one that he followed back and forth everyday...Such a sweet sentiment to share.
"They glow!" Another exclaimed, laughing.
"They're so tiny...and really sensitive to movement, aren't they?".
He also recongized this voice. The one that accompanied the other. He closed his eyes, trying to evision a moment of them togehter. But nothing came. Of course- he hasn't seen them- so why would that work? Letting out a sigh, he opened his eyes and looked up once again.
"And those are starts, you can sometimes connect them and they make images!...Of sorts. My favorite is Cassiopeia." the voice hummed. There was movement, but not around him.
"What about you, what is your favorite constellation?"There was a moment of silence. C4T-5 Hurricane rose up to their feet and started to walk, slowly venturing out.
"Little Bear." The other replied in a soft, dreamy tone.
"Oh so, Ursa Minor?" The other one questioned, a little puzzled.
C4T-Hurricane moved forth, trudging along the grass.
"Yes...but it is also called the Little Dipper, did you know that?" A hypothetical question. Of course they knew.
"No, I didn't know that," a laugh bellowed from them. Quite a surprise that they lied to the other. What was it done on purpose? Maybe...He wasn't going to question it. He didn't know if he could.
Moving along, the two voices that were conversing with each other ended. There was nothing but the chirps of nearby bugs. He watched as a few fireflies danced around in front of him.
It wasn't long until he ventured back to the cave....only to sit outside of it, enjoying his surroundings...besides he didn't want to go out too far.
But that changed.
With each passing day, C4T-Hurricane ventured out a little further, outside of his comfort zone. But at the end of each night, he would always find himself back to the cave. It was apart of him.
He was grateful for his new surroundings, even found a temporary stay in another cave- although it was all different. The formations and sand...a lot of dirt and gravel. It was a nice place to take shelter in. It helped him cool down in the heat, and provided a nice place to rest when he got tired and didn't want to continue back to his...home.
Despite it being strange...dark and desolate, he had also found solace in that place. A place of familiarity. He didn't want to fully leave the place. He has grown attached. That is the first place that he had learned about the outside world. How he yearned for it and now it paved a way for him to finally enjoy what he was missing out on.
He cannot seem to call this place his home...not quite yet.
