There's a spot in Africa, on the coast of the channel between Madagascar and Africa where the trees are abnormally thick. They stretch into the sky, and almost seem to catch the starlight when it rains. Up in the tall branches is its own world, where all sorts of animals live and thrive together. The air up in the tree tops is cooler than the air on the ground, and a nice fresh wind can almost always be felt. If you do manage to make it to the ground, it's covered in mossy rocks, being the only thing that can survive on the ground due to the low light. Colonies of leafcutter ants and beetles thrive down there, with their only predators being the small birds that live on the lower branches. Evergreen was born and raised in the canopy. Due to her lithe body, shes able to go even higher in the trees than the rest of her siblings, and tends to spend her nights up on the top of the trees gazing at the stars. Her parents joke that if she spends any more time up there she'll start to absorb the stars, but Evergreen wouldn't really mind that. During the day when the stars are hidden away, she loves to venture down to the forest floor with a few of her cousins and her younger sibling. They explore the moss-covered rocks, and venture down the seemingly endless river that runs through the middle of the giant forest. Sometimes when it rains Everygreen will stay on the ground, sleeping under her favorite overhang.

"This is... a very odd place."

Izara muttered to herself. As her tail dragged along the fine, powdery sand of the beach she found herself on, she had to wonder how she even ended up there. One moment she was taking a tour through her desert home, the next she was... on a beach?

"Maybe I should explore this place more." Izara thought. The whole place looked weird. It seemed like a beach, but it clearly wasn't normal. "I mean, what kind of beach would have crystals growing on the sand? Not to mention the... white palm trees rising from the water?" As Izara observed her surroundings more, she got a little worried. The place threw her off. It wasn't just the surroundings—it was also the creatures there. There were dolphins, like you'd expect, but... they had legs. They had legs. They walked alongside her as she awkwardly tried to make conversation. She was only greeted with clicks.

But to be honest, she did warm up to the place. The way the beach looked fascinated her. As she traveled further, Izara marveled at the many palm trees adorning the beach. It seemed like a nice little paradise getaway, despite the weirdness of it all. And the way the sun highlighted the many multicolored crystals littered on the beach made her feel relaxed, despite her previous nervousness. Maybe this place wasn't so bad after all. As she relaxed on a spare pool floatie the dolphins gave her, she smiled, feeling a sense of calm for the first time in weeks.

Izara had never been to any place other than her desert, but so far she'd have to call the—what did the dolphins call it, the "Crystoral biome?" Yeah, she thought that this was a cool place.

Mal's favorite biome is the cherry blossom biome. While he may stick out like a sore thumb amongst the pink and white flowers, there's nothing more comforting than the cherry blossoms. He loves how they glow in the sunlight and how the petals dance around him as the breeze carries them away. Considering the tree's short bloom window, Mal keeps track of when the blossoms are meant to emerge and usually spends the entire month living in the biome. He lives the other 11 months out of the year in a dense forest, which, while beautiful and perfect for hiding, doesn't give him the same solace and fulfillment as the cherry blossoms. The trek from his home to the blossom biome is dangerous and harsh, but Mal makes sure nothing gets in his way, especially with his venom and speed at his disposal.

As spring approaches, Malachite can't help but be excited about the cherry blossoms. The delicate pink and white flowers are a symbol of renewal and hope to the young Kalon. Walking under the blooming trees is like stepping into a dream world, one that's far different from his everyday life. The petals fall like snow, creating a magical atmosphere where he can get lost, temporarily forgetting the troubles of his day. It's a reminder that even amid chaos and uncertainty, beauty and joy can be found.

Favorite Biome: Žar chuckles as they tilt their head back, considering. They'd never really spent much time thinking about a favorite biome before, but they'd visited so many over the course of their time traveling in space. Planets sure came in all different types, after all.

"I think the coolest one was that one mushroom planet we landed on several rotations ago. Tons of mushrooms and other fungi, some as large as a house, and so many of them emitting light... what's that called again?" They click their fingers together several times in thought, then bounce back. "Bioluminescence, right?! That's it! It was really mindblowing... you don't think about mushrooms as emitting enough light to power a city, but there we were." Žar takes a sip of their warm cider and chuckles. "All shapes and colors, all types. Even when you closed your eyes you saw dazzling flashes of light behind your lids, like you were in a discotheque."

"A disco-what?"

Žar waves off the question. "Bah, before your time. Anyways, the point was, it was nuts over there. We got so turned around and around that we got lost and almost fell into a ravine full of Kalon-eating mushrooms!" They laugh despite the bleak silence that follows their words. "It was a great time! 10/10 would go back. Maybe with a compass next time, though."

They keep drinking their cider, humming quietly, ignoring the awkward silence that follows their words. Well, as long as they had a good time...?
