There are two things Tamao loves to do in the night: the first one, if his owners forgot anything, just the minor piece of food in a furniture that he could reach (or find a way to get it), he will have this small snack. The new moon plunged the estate into darkness. The inhabitants of the house were sound asleep, dreaming of whatever adventures and fun the morning would bring. All except one of them, that is. Anisha was wide awake, staring over her sleeping pack mates at the dog door that was situated at the back of the house. Tonight was the perfect night to partake in one of her favourite activities. Anisha just had to leave without anyone noticing.
She carefully got up from her spot on the rug, then padded as quietly as she could over to the table next to the door. She reached up and grabbed the flashlight that the trainer kept there with her mouth. It was a vital tool for what Anisha wanted to do. She threw one last glance over her shoulder at her sleeping pack mates, and then pushed her way through the dog door out into the brisk night air. She dashed down the front porch and didn't stop until she had reached the field at the edge of the estate.
Anisha took a deep breath, setting the flashlight down on the ground. Grinning to herself, she pushed on the flashlight until it turned on. Then she hunkered down in the grass and waited. Tail wagging with excitement, the collie didn't have to wait long.
The moths gathered quickly in Anisha's light. Her tail wagged even harder as she watched them dance and shimmer. This was her favourite activity, and she tried to go as many nights as she could. Moths fascinated her. Wherever there was light in the darkness, moths would surely follow. Even the smallest flame was visited by a thousand powdery wings. Why? What did they come looking for? What grand fate awaited the moths at the end of their journey?
If she watched enough moths enough times, Anisha was sure that she would find out.

The night was quiet, apart from the cacophony of crickets and frogs that sang harmoniously in the darkness. The hoot of an owl echoed into the night as the sound of a twig snapping broke the peace. A pair of red eyes appeared, soon followed by a head as Colby padded through the bushes, leaves stuck in his fur. Looking behind to make sure he wasn’t followed, he shook himself free of leaves and started to walk towards a tree stump. Taking a deep breath in, earthy scents filled his nose and as a rush of of calm washed over him as he drank in the sights of the night. Arriving at the stump, he crawled into the stump and he grabbed the tattered blanket and wrapped himself before settling, his front end outside the stump. Resting his head on his paws, Colby watched the fireflies as they danced under the moonlight sky. As frogs jumped into the lake the moon flicked on the surface, rocking the reeds with each wave. He couldn’t help but admire the beauty that night brought as he let his anxiety and worries wash away for the night. Like a trance, Colby soon felt his eyes grow heavy as he let himself succumb to noises around him, lulling him into sleep. With a cool breeze settling in, the lake soon fell into a quiet choir of bugs and frogs as they ruled the night.
