Since birth, Aysima was always fascinated by astronomy with her favorite hobby being constellation sighting. Her mother named her Aysima or "face of the moon" because of her large, round stripes which reminded her of moon craters. Aysima still fondly remembers stargazing with her mother before she slept, nuzzled by her mother's nose.

As she would drift to sleep, her mother would point out constellations she recognized, phases of the moon on clear nights, and distant planets that could occasionally be seen from the window of their stall. Her mother's knowledge of Greek, Roman, and Middle Eastern mythology was limited so she would often make up her own whimsical tales of how the constellations came to be named and formed. The stories would vary slightly retelling to retelling, but Aysima enjoyed the inconsistency of her mother's tales. On foggy nights when there is not much to be seen, Aysima will rework her mother's stories or make up her own.
