prompt: sweetpea and honeyshuckle eagerly scampered into auntie’s cozy cottage, but drew expressions of confusion when they weren’t near-instantly met with her motherly, supportive greeting. the aroma of freshly baked goods was faint and there was no sound of movement — not even the familiar clamor in the kitchen. sweetpea motions to a slip of paper and a bowl on the table.
the duo walks over to the items and gives the note a read. sweetpea idly takes only two pieces of candycorn from the bowl. purr noodley friend, however, simply snags the entire vessel with a devious grin. sweetpea reacts with panic;
“honey… what do you need all that for?”
“i don’t know — i just want it,” disarmingly responds honeyshuckle. “mine now.” sweetpea didn’t want to try and argue with eym.
“welp, what now?” questions the thoughtful pink feline. “i think i wanna try and bake like auntie; she’s always making us such good desserts, i wanna try and give back,” mew continues.
“let’s try it now then!” replies an approving honeyshuckle.
they two bumbles off to auntie’s big kitchen; large collections of utensils and recipe books rest splayed on the countertops and shelves. sweetpea rummages through the pages of one of the aforementioned books. we should try something simple, mew thinks reasonably. honeyshuckle verbalizes this thought mere seconds later, with an additional, “i don’t really feel like poisoning auntie.”
the fluffy, pink cat eventually comes upon a non-complex-appearing recipe for chocolate peanut butter cookies. honeyshuckle immediately approves of the pick with hungry eyes. they get to work, slightly struggling to heave out the hefty bags of ingredients.
throughout the duration of the dough creation, they managed to spill every ingredient at some capacity; flour and specks of salt, sugar, baking soda, and brown sugar lay in haphazard spots; a little puddle of raw egg white sat idly on the counter; one spot of the countertop was slick and sticky after softened butter had fallen on it.
but they did it!
they eagerly taste tested the dough, shaped balls of it into hearts, and threw them in the oven. their mess remained. hopefully auntie wouldn’t mind… their culinary inexperience offered a potential excuse for their kitchen space negligence.
the oven timer beeped and sweetpea scrambled to grasp all-too-big oven mitts, of which engulfed her small paws. purr whipped the pan out of the oven and set the creation on the stovetop. success! honeyshuckle and sweetpea triumphantly wiggled; auntie would surely love these, even if they happened to taste bad.
