Prompt: "He awoke the beast. Not because he wanted destruction on the world. No. He wanted the beast to save it. He just wanted to purge the world of those who would hurt his family and nothing else. His brothers would forgive him. Right?

It wasn't supposed to go like this.

The beast wasn't supposed to turn on him. Capture his mind in a loop of thought then use his body as a vessel. He couldn't escape it. Couldn't reply to the cries of his family and friends. He screamed and shouted and scratched at the bindings. But this beast was strong and he willingly let it out of its chambers that had locked it down for the last millennia. It was awake and angry and wanting to destroy what locked him in the first place. The world.

      ...

He opened his eyes finally, laying sprawled in the dirt. His consciousness back and in his own grasps at last.

It wasn't supposed to go like this.

1,127 words wrote:Aetherin could feel his body ache as he trekked who-knows-where, not wanting to linger longer than he needed.
It hadn't been very long since his run-in with Melody in the Purgatory Layer, and he knew he couldn't stick around there too long. Part of him felt guilty about leaving the anklet behind, but surely Boss would understand. After all, it wasn't every day someone died and came back to life.
But for now he was shooting blind, not really sure about where he was even GOING.
"Kinda wish I wasn't by myself.." He mumbled. If only Hoops were here. Or Haunt... But I doubt he'd want to see me like this.
He stopped for a minute to take in his surroundings, taking a breath. Where was he? This place didn't look like anywhere he'd been before, and it didn't look like the place where he'd entered the dungeon where he'd inevitably bit the dust.
He was seemingly lost in thought for too long, as he noticed a paw waving in front of his face, causing him to startle.
"Earth to ghost, can you hear me?" The voice of Hoops came shortly after, followed by the rest of him. Aetherin scrambled backwards a bit.
"H-Hey! Hoops, can you give me some warning?"
"Not my fault you're not paying attention." Hoops spun his body around. "Dude, what happened to you? Folks back at the Court suddenly lost track of you!"
"Well, uh, I literally died." Aetherin replied. "I don't have my anklet anymore, and I'm not going back for it, because Arceus won't like to see the fact I am not six feet under."
Hoops was clearly surprised.
"But I know that something happened, which is why you showed up."
"Well." Hoops paused. "There's another incident down in one of the towns, with another pokemon going awry."
Aetherin sighed, remembering the last time. "We finally paid for Wandermere's damages for when I got flung into a wall."
"Well, are you up for a return visit?" Hoops quirked a brow. "Surely you have a few more tricks up your sleeve with your new form."
"No promises. I literally just got back on my feet after dying." Aetherin replied. "And it'd be convenient to have a way home after what happened."
"Aye, I'm the pinnacle of convenient travel." Hoops grinned, spinning the ring on his tail for a moment. "We should be able to make it if we hurry, before it gets too bad. Maybe we can scare it off."
Hoops took off, and Aetherin darted close behind.

"You know, you're going to have to tell them what happened to you."
"Well aware." Aetherin mumbled.
The two of them had stopped for a brief break, although the Mausoleon didn't know why. Did he need to rest now that he was dead?
"Why are you so hesitant?" Hoops asked.
"Well, can't exactly go and tell them that everything they know about the god of everything is a lie, now can I?"
"Mm, I guess you're right. It's still a lot, even for me." Hoops waved his paw. "You're gonna tell them you died, at least?"
"Well, obviously. It's not something I can hide." Aetherin mumbled. “I’ll figure out how to explain that Arceus isn’t who it says it is at some point later.”
When Boss isn’t as devoted to Arceus as they are now. He figured that telling them that would be a surefire way to get booted from the Court and blacklisted from all the guilds.
“In the meantime, we can find proof.” Hoops replied. “So take as long as you need.”
Aetherin gave a hum in response before he got back to his feet. “We should keep going. We don’t want to get there too late.”
“Got it.” Hoops lifted off the ground, and the two of them began to run toward Wandermere.

Somehow, Aetherin didn’t feel winded as they finally made it to Wandermere.
“Looks like we’re just in time.” Hoops replied, looking around. “C’mon, let’s go. We can probably catch it as it swings back around.”
Aetherin nodded, and they bounded into the town’s square. He looked around, noticing a crowd toward a different section of forest. He darted over to the group, skidding to a stop a moment later. “Hey, what’s going on over here?”
“It’s gonna come up!” Someone said. “The rumors are true!”
“Rumors..”
He couldn’t continue his thoughts as the area was engulfed in red smoke, and the ground shook. He could hear something coming up into the air, but the smoke obscured the area around him.
“Hoops!” He called, to no response. The smoke rose, beginning to take shape around the figure that had shot into the air. Moments later his vision cleared, and he could see it in front of him - the large figure of a Darkrai-Yveltal fusion.
He took a step back, looking over his shoulder for his friend. Okay, okay. I need a plan of action before this gets out of hand!
He turned to bound back toward the town, spotting Hoops a moment later. “There you are!”
Hoops looked to him. “What’re we doing?”
“I think we just need to drive it back. If it goes back to where it came from before causing too much damage, then I think we can call that a success.”
“Got it. You got ghost moves?”
“I-I don’t know. Probably?” Aetherin replied. That seemed to be a solid enough answer for Hoops, and the two of them headed back over to where the legendary had appeared.
It seemed to stare right through Aetherin, and the Mausoleon braced himself. Now wasn’t the time to be paranoid. “Go back!”
It shot something at him, and he scrambled to the side. In turn he shot a Shadow Ball back, hitting the legendary head-on. It roared, firing one back at Aetherin, and he slid back from the impact. Don’t fall over yet! He straightened himself out, shooting another Shadow Ball at the Darkrai-Yveltal. It lunged forwards, stopping just short of colliding with Aetherin, and it stared him down.
“..........What a surprise.” It hissed out. “What an interesting development.”
Without thinking, Aetherin swiped at it with a clawed paw, but missed. It drew back, looking at him, and then it slipped away back toward where it came. Aetherin watched to make sure it was gone, only then feeling his body shaking. It spoke to me.
“Aeth, are you alright?” Hoops shook his shoulder gently. Aetherin took a breath before he nodded.
“I-I’m fine. We should check on the folks here, and then head back to the Court. I think they should know.”
Hoops nodded in response, and the two of them began to speak to the townsfolk.
…He had a lot of explaining to do back home, huh.

The chill that went down Charlotte's spine was cold. Not cold in the way that ice was in the dull throbbing way, but sharp and intense in the way fire was. The way fear felt when you went from being calm and having a good time to suddenly thrown into a life or death situation. She had thought it was just a rumor- something to scare the kids as part of the fun and games. When people and pokemon alike had started to gather and whisper to each other and hush toned she had not listened. Why should she have? It was all games, all nonsense.
But it wasn't anymore, was it? The thing that emerged as silent as an owl from below the treeline before letting out a shrill cry so loud Charlotte nearly collapsed was not a game. It was suddenly life or death. Chaos broke out all around her and she struggled to keep away from being trampled. The bravest of the festival-goers ran towards the horrible Pokemon to engage it in battle. Others ran for cover and fled, unwilling to stay and fight or even see what the Pokemon wanted. Nothing that sounded like that could be good news anyway.
Charlotte tucked and rolled through the stampede, forced to keep moving or risk the biggest threat to her at the moment: getting trampled. She struggled to climb up a barrel before finally being able to stop and get her bearings. She looked around, her heart still pounding, at the chaos that was sprawled out in front of her. Most of the people fleeing had already made it a good distance and were no longer within the immediate area where a battle had started to take place. Brave pokemon sent attack after attack out to fight back against the dark one that had appeared. Now finally able to get a better look at it she found herself weak in the knees again. How horrible.
Her eyes went then to the pokemon who were attempting to fight the beast back, protecting the whole festival from being trampled. She wasn't sure what came over her but she was suddenly filled with a determination she had never felt before. It was the sort filled with respect and appreciation for those who were risking their lives to protect the people around them. They fought for each other just as much as they fought against the beast. It was love and friendship in it's highest form. We had spent time together celebrating, competing, having fun. Through the best and now the worst they had stuck together. She felt as if she was glowing inside, delirious with the exhilaration that came with experiencing the friendship she felt for the rest of the festival-goers.

The battlers were showing her friendship and now it was her turn to return the feelings! Charlotte felt as if she was flying through the air as she leapt off her barrel and onto the street. She touched down light as a feather and ran faster than she had ever run before towards the front line of the battle. She was just an Eevee, she wasn't sure what attack she would be able to do that would truely hurt this behemoth but she knew she had to try! She had to do it for her friends! Leaping up as high as she could she stopped glowing just before she made contact with the beast. As she slammed into it she noticed it's will seemed to waiver a bit, almost like it was suddenly confused by it's own aggression. This allowed a window for the others to attack, letting off a relentless hail of damage onto the beast. Charlotte retreated back a bit so as not to be hit by the onslaught, her nimble little feet tapping down the road into an alleyway to get cover. She likely would just be in the way if they were trying to range attack with all her melee moves.
Suddenly a realization hit Charlotte. She felt taller than normal. Much taller. It was almost dizzying just how different she felt. It was as if someone had attached stilts to the bottom of her feet when she wasn't looking. She stumbled a little bit, unsteady with her new height. Looking down she noticed something alarming. Her whole appearance had changed! The body she was looking down on didn't look anything like she was used to. Ribbons that floated in front of her seemed to respond to her thoughts. Had she.... Evolved? The joy overtook Charlotte instantly. She had done it! She had managed to evolve into a Sylveon! That had been all she had ever wanted to evolve into since she had hatched!

Charlotte couldn't help but leap around in a circle joyfully, getting used to her long graceful legs. She was a fairy type! Wait... She was a fairy type. A fairy type who was specially known for defeating great evil beasts and vanquishing them away to protect people. But could she really do that? Did she even know how? She hadn't even had time to get used to her new form let alone practice moves or battling. It didn't matter though. She knew that she would go out there and do her absolute best to make a difference in the battle just like everyone else was still doing for her. She couldn't abandon them now! She was still a fairy type and that would make her stronger than the dark!
Charlotte charged out of the alley and back into the streets, readier than ever to face the battle ahead of her. She wasn't sure exactly how she knew what she was doing but before she could think about it she opened her mouth and let out a loud Disarming Voice towards the dark behemoth. It was a super effective! The beast staggered and let out a weaker roar than before. Charlotte repeated the move over and over as the dark shadowy beast slowly sank down, defeated.

"You're not going to fight? Why?" Was the simple question asked towards Mucie and Manchi, the two pokemon sitting and looking over a few pieces of paper while other pokemon prepared themselves for the oncoming battle with the intimidating hybrid pokemon. The pokemon asking was Turado, and while the mudsdale wanted to fight, he couldn't- having sprained a leg during work a few days prior and still not up and in working condition quite yet. Reasonably, it made the two younger pokemon think that he had no reason to talk. "We just don't want to." Mucie explained, flipping through a few pieces of paper and handing one over to the ghost deerling next to him. "We'd be too weak to do anything, anyways. So we're doing research instead." They explained. "Research? For a fight?" Turado asked, watching dumbly as the two other pokemon simply nodded in response. "What does research have to do with a good ol' hoof-n-claw raid fight?" He elaborated, trying to do some kicking motion to emphasize his point, only for him to flinch and lay back down, grumbling about his injured leg.

"Well, you need strategy for a fight, not to mention that researching how we do now will lead us into doing better in future raids. Especially since the pokemon we're fighting right now is super scary all things considered." Manchi explained, handing a piece of paper over to the mudsdale who began to read to himself, though the other two could absolutely hear it- and the fear in his voice as he continued looking at the human's pokedex entry for Yvetal. "Well, that's not exactly comforting, but it's not like that's going to happen here- not only is the pokemon we're fighting not a full-fledged Yvetal, but we wouldn't be fighting it with all our might if it could manage this." Mucie nodded, taking the paper back. "Well yeah, but we're going to find out what It can do, and how closely these human pokedex entries match up when it comes to hybrid pokemon. We were originally doing research involving me being a shinx mixed with a goomy, but it's much more interesting to see it on a scale like this!" He motioned to the area around them, where not too awfully far away, pokemon were battling the large legendary creature. "And the smoke trick, we noted that down while we were huddled together, and we're trying to figure out how it works in this situations- like if it was a move or just something you can do when you're body's partially made out of some sort of spectral smoke." The deerling continued, showing off a bit of paper which contained all sorts of theories on the matter, including some diagrams of more goo-based pokemon fully becoming a puddle and equating that to the smoke that has appeared before.

It didn't take long for others to notice the two young pokemon in the battlefield effectively doing nothing. And soon enough Metralis and Lezabel found their way over to what was quickly becoming an entire research operation. "Manchi, Turado, son of mine." Metralis said as a blunt greeting before Lezabel burst in. "What in the name of Arceus are you kids doing?! This is an active battle zone! And you, big guy, how come you're not at home resting? I told you that you shouldn't do anything that puts pressure on your leg, including battling!" After a small pause, Mucie explained the situation to the two, going over pretty much everything that they had said to Turado not even fifteen minutes ago.

"Researching? And you didn't even ask for help from an adult!?" Lezabel yelped, only to correct herself once she caught a sour glare from Turado. "Sorry, from an adult who doesn't currently have an injury. Mucie, you could have asked your father for help!" Metralis looked at the group, and at the letters while Manchi explained why they had been out here alone, and while the two talked about some sort of moral regarding asking for help whenever it's needed, Metralis picked up the papers and very carefully put them on a nearby rock, before walking over to some trees to snap some branches off, returning only to put the branches together in a makeshift tent sort of formation. It seemed like the group hadn't even noticed them until the third time around, particularly because the third small stick-tent had been built around Turado's body.

"Hey Metra, what's up with the art project?" Lezabel asked, motioning to the organized bundles of sticks. "Well, if the kids want to research, let them research. What they're doing could be good for the future and could teach them a thing or two about battling less formidable foes." They turned to the two young pokemon as they continued. "The stick forts aren't the most secure, but they'll be enough so if the Yvetrai comes around, you can hide under the sticks and they hopefully won't notice you. Mucie, after the battle, you and your friend can come back to see me and I'll find a way to get what you've found to who needs it so we're more prepared next time. You're doing a good job, just stay safe, alright?" Mucie absolutely beamed, running to hug his dad with a big smile on his face. "Okay dad, I promise me and Manchi will be safe! And we'll make sure Mr.Turado is safe too!" Metralis made a motion, it looked like a smiling motion but nobody could really tell. "Good, now me and Lezabel have to go back to the fight, I'll meet you back at home." Mucie nodded, and the two other pokemon were off, leaving the three that were there before.

Turado sighed lightly. "Alright, seeing as I imagine I'm stuck here, what can I do to help?" There was a pause, allowing Manchi and Mucie to think, before Manchi spoke out with a pleased look on their skull. "Oh, I know! You know a lot about battles, you should be the one to point out what moves they're using!" Turado couldn't help but smile a little at that, at least the kids could respect his opinion on battles. "Alright, but do your best to keep up, a battle expert like me can talk pretty fast!"
"and I, as ever, am my own worst enemy."

"Are you... sure you wanna do this?"

sewal's voice is wobbly to mieson's right as they pause for breath near the kangaskhan statue, almost desperate for mieson's response to be 'no, actually, i wanna go home now'. he flexes his front paws under him, feeling the decaying, crumbling ruins under his paws pretending to be solid earth, stable and unchangeable, and he's honestly unsure if he's ever been less confidant in his life.

"No. But... we have to," mieson mutters back, exhaustion laced in between every syllable. "If we don't, the distortion from this pocket of Ultra Space is gonna keep spreading. And we can't let that happen, Sewal. If you think this dungeon's been bad so far... imagine if it keeps leaking out into the rest of the Fire Continent."

"What are we gonna do, dude?" sewal snaps back, his voice cracking audibly midsentence; mieson feels a pang of guilt for dragging his teammate into this as he turns to face the wooper's trembling form. sewal looks at him as if he's wearing a halo of thorns behind his head, walking tirelessly to their certain doom.

"This isn't - this isn't a dungeon exploration, Mieson! Nobody's ever seen or heard of a Pokemon like this before! We're apprentices! How- how are we supposed to, like - this isn't us playing heroes! We're not gonna float back down home and be hailed as the saviors of Pokemonkind for this! We'll be lucky if we survive!"

he finishes his outburst slamming his feet against the dungeon floor, an ominous rumbling echoing impossibly far below them in response. mieson tries to swallow the guilt rising in the back of his throat, sitting down on his hind legs after a moment and glancing upwards at the black, swirling vortex making up the ceiling of the impossible architecture. sewal stares at him with tears rimming his fear-filled eyes expectantly.

"...we're not heroes," he agrees faintly, flicking one of his tails back and forth anxiously. "But... we have to try. We're an exploration team, Sewal. If all of us turn tail and flee at the first sign of danger, this world would've crumbled back into Great Arceus's domain years ago."

"I don't WANNA be brave!" sewal shouts with such abrupt force it makes mieson jump to his paws, eyes widening. "I wanna go home! I wanna be at the guild all cozy 'n warm 'n lookin' for treasure! I know you're all- all full'a some weird responsibility to your stupid magic village but I'M NOT!"

"It's not stupid!" mieson snarls back, bristling immediately at the insult - the implication that he's only doing this for hometown glory, as if. "Why'd you even join this exploration team if you're just a big scaredy-Skitty, huh?! Go home then! Throw me your badge and just leave!"

the silence hangs heavy between them, his emphasis on leave causing the word to echo around the room long after he stopped talking. sewal's eyes are brimming over with tears, his tail shaking violently but refusing to move while mieson keeps his glare trained on his teammate, tails trembling with rage, fur bristling.

what feels like an hour passes between them in the cold silence before mieson feels all the tension evaporate from his body, dropping down into a laying position numbly as sewal finally can hold back his crying no longer.

"...Sorry," mieson mutters guiltily, averting his eyes to the kangaskhan statue - anything else to look at. sewal hiccups for a moment before he responds.

"...'m sorry too, Mie."

he flicks his tails back dismissively, shaking his head with a quiet sigh. "Remember when we started this team?"

sewal looks over at him, blinking rapidly to clear his tears before sitting down to face him with a shaky exhale. "Ye-yeah. You were running errands for the guild, and I ran inta you at Krokorok Cliff. Man, I never thought we'd go from rescuing Pokemon and catching outlaws to Ultra Space."

"After that," mieson gestures with one paw, a weak chuckle escaping him anyhow at the fond memory. "When I told you the folklore passed down through my grandmother."

"The one about Yveltal?" sewal questions, tilting his head to one side in thought before nodding. "Yeah, how Yveltal's super important to the continent cause his home's here. And how the mages of Fire Continent all hold Xerneas and Yveltal's cycle as the, um, the really important thingy that they all follow."

"The most important law of magic, Sewal," mieson corrects gently, his voice cracking with exhausted laughter. "It's said Master Yveltal never got over Lady Magearna escaping the cycle of life and death, and his rage still simmers to this day - so mages must respect Yveltal's cycle first and foremost, or we risk reawakening his fury."

"Yeah, I remember your nerdy stuff," sewal teases, and mieson is just relieved he's feeling better enough to joke around. "What's that have to do with this?"

mieson pauses, trying to think of a way to explain his line of thought without sounding completely insane. "This... dungeon, if we can even call it that - it reminds me a lot of the ancient paintings and depictions of the Caves of Despair. I think... I think the Pokemon at the top of the dungeon might be some distorted form of Master Yveltal."

"What?!" sewal yelps, leaping straight into the air and almost crashing into the kangaskhan rock on the way back down. "You sayin' we're gonna fight death itself up here?!"

"I mean, I'm not certain!" mieson quickly defends, fanning his tails out as if to stop sewal physically from running out of the dungeon. "But I think... if it is, he must be in a lot of pain. And... maybe I can reason with them."

"You..." sewal gapes at him for a few minutes, stammering through several different syllables before starting again. "You, you think you can waltz up to the top of this dungeon - located entirely in the middle of a different dimension, mind you, if we fall off of these weird spacey ruins we might just poof into a cloud of smoke - and talk it out?"

"Well. ...Not like that," he mumbles defensively at the incredulous tone. "I'm prepared to fight. But I think we can help them, okay? That's what exploration teams do."

sewal stares at him for a long time before a strange wheeze escapes him, slowly snowballing into cascading, hysteric laughter, rolling on the ground back and forth. mieson's fur prickles in embarrassment and concern - he's about to defensively suggest sewal just stay here, and also complain that they still don't know if the ruined floor would gain more holes in the worn stone if he keeps rolling on it when he finally gasps out a response.

"Mie, you're like - literally the nerdiest, weirdest Pokemon I've ever met, man," he wheezes, stumbling back up to his feet. "That's -- thanks. For a moment there... I forgot that about you, when it was why I said yes to the whole exploration team thing to begin with. You got that teeter dance kind of plans that are juuuuust nuts enough that they work out."

mieson blinks a few times in response, before finally cracking a small smile, a slight laugh of his own escaping. "Glad that you trust me to be your team leader for my knowledge of folklore and my calls to action."

"I trust you to be my best friend because when I first met you, the only times you talked this much for a while was about exploring or magic," sewal corrects, walking over to join by his side and playfully jabbing mieson with his tail. " 'N I know even if it sounds dangerous, and unhinged, if you feel passionately about something you've usually got a good reason to see it to the end."

there's a pause as mieson threads his steps carefully through the ruined floor to the staircase leading to the very top, hesitating and glancing back over his shoulder at his trusted teammate with eyes full of genuine concern.

"Are you sure you want to do this, Sewal?" he tries to hide the anxiousness of his voice, the subtle please don't leave me to do this alone undercurrent - the truth of this stupid fight, of this rest break to get his nerves up, was that he was scared. scared that he'll fail alone and his home that he loves so dearly will get consumed by the strange, corrupting distortion creeping out of the wormhole - filled with terror and decay in every molecule of the energy, dredging up fears he almost forgot he had over the course of their long, grueling climb. "You can stay behind here. I won't... take offense."

"Nah, I don't wanna," sewal responds back casually, and mieson freezes in place with shock before he continues. "But I'm gonna. Can't just let you wander off into Arceus-knows-where and try to reason with some terrifying Pokemon alone. You're my best friend, gotcha?"

"...Got it," he hopes the tremor and relief in his voice isn't as audible to sewal as it is to him, turning to face the stairs to hide the slight pricks of tears in his eyes. "Let's go, then. This Pokemon that carries the silhouette of Master Yveltal... we'll help them. We'll stop them."

he knows, paws leaping up the stairs two at a time, adrenaline coursing through his veins as a hint of scarlet red clouds and black lightning splitting the sky becomes faintly visible at the top, that no pokemon is truly bad. no pokemon can truly never be reasoned with, can never be helped and calmed down.

he shuts his eyes for a moment and thinks back to the folktales that shaped his life - of a younger yveltal desperately trying to fix arceus's sorrow in the only way he could, not understanding the sadness it would bring to others; the tales of the creation pokemon being sparked into a feral rage, unable to process things happening to their domain or the pain and destruction their actions cause, too full of agony and distress to be reasoned with - how they were calmed down by a trio of explorers with a loving paw but a determined spirit.

the sound of thunder cracks through the sky above as he opens his eyes, bursting to the top of the Nightterror Ruins with determination blazing in them. the distorted figure of yveltal, twisted with a different form, looking almost like something from a dream or nightmare stares down at them with red, unblinking and unnatural eyes.

"Let's do this, Sewal!"

In the Rift…

“Is that a giant cheese wheel?” The Guardian of Storms wondered aloud.

They were being called on a special mission, a quest. Straight from the depths themselves.

“No, Pharus. Only you would think that. Cheese wheels aren’t cloaked in shadows!” Suieri sighed.

“But what if they were?” Pharus mused.

And at that moment, the sky broke. Splintering shards of jagged lightning erupted into the air, sending the four Guardians flying into the abyss of four separate portals. And then they were gone.

In the Detnahcne Woods

“Fate… Fate!” The Hisuian Zorua shook her friend awake.

“Wh-what?” The shiny Vulpix murmured sleepily.

“Your Orb of Secrets is glowing.” Sakurune said, pointing to the shimmering purple ball.

“You mean… the crystal ball?” Fate blinked, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

“Yeah, that.” Sakurune shrugged.

Fate walked over to the ball and picked it up, observing it. The purple shifted to an indigo, then glimmered into a sudden orange, then a bright red.

Fate frowned, then sighed. “I have to go.”

“Go where? Secret apprentice duty?” Sakurune asked, “Can I come?”

“Wh- what? N-no! It’s not like that!” Fate shook her head, then thought for a moment, “I don’t know… usually these things are…”

“Dangerous?” Sakurune laughed, “More dangerous than that story about those shadow Lugia clones?”

“Perhaps.” Fate smiled, “You can come if you’re up to it.” It would be nice to have company.

Sakurune eagerly nodded, “Our own journey!”

“Indeed,” Fate replied, “Indeed.”

Meanwhile, on the coast of Rangeview Island

The water shimmered, colors of blues and greens and oranges rippling under the golden setting sun. As wild as fire itself, the waves crashed upon the shore, pulling the sand away from the paws of a lone Shinx.

The Shinx watched the waves with growing interest, then jumped with a startled mew as the water suddenly stopped. Then swirled, faster and faster. And faster still.

The Shinx watched in shock as the sand and water around them was pulled into the whirlpool, strangely leaving them where they were. And then… it stopped. All that remained was a shell-lined path leading towards the center of the vortex which was growing smaller and smaller. The path was fading.

Saiyo dipped a careful toe into the water, curious. They sniffed the path once, twice, three times, then followed it to the hole.

And then they jumped in and became swallowed by the unknown.

And the water stopped, returning to its natural state. It was as if nothing happened.

Meanwhile, in the Backalley

“Heads or tails.” Spades asked, casually tossing the coin in their right paw.

Harleii sighed, “Again?”

Spades nodded, then looked back to the customer, a Salazzle, “So? What will it be?”

The Salazzle rolled her eyes, “Tails, I guess.”

Spades flipped the coin, catching it and putting a paw over it, before revealing it to the Salazzle.

“Knew it.” The Salazzle hissed, then spun the game’s spinner.

“If only we could’ve rolled the dice again instead of all of that.” Harleii sighed, with a bit of a laugh. The Zorua glared at Spades, who gave a chuckle.

“Where’s all the fun in that?” The Eevee smirked.

“Actually playing the game.” Harleii retorted, shaking the repurposed Yahtzee cup. Spades tended to take every game a little too far… even for a simple game of Chutes and Ladders. The Eevee added so many extra things, it was crazy.

But before Harleii could roll, a silver flame erupted around the room, providing a warm, safe glow.

Harleii stepped back in reflex, “What’s going on? Spades? What sorcery is this?”

“None of my own.” Spades frowned, looking at the Salazzle, who shook her head.

“Then wha-” Harleii asked, breaking off as a shadow appeared among the flames.

Listen… a voice broke among the flames, then spoke…

At the Northern Edge
The Guardian shook out their fur, and froze, biting their lip. They shook their head and glared at the air around them, hissing in annoyance. Then they took a step into the shadows.

At the Evening Court
Suieri shook out her fur, and growled to herself. How could she have ben so careless? The Sui dug her claws into the starry ground, shutting her eyes tight, breathed, then opened her eyes again. And then she set off, back the way she was thrown.

At the bottom of the Ysiare Trench
They landed with a graceful plyoop, using the psychic energy in the water to cushion their would-have-been-bad descent into the murky, shadowy depths. Something was here.

Using their wings to help propel themselves forward, they moved farther down, navigating the darkness and unpredictable magical currents with difficulty.

“Aha.”

In a certain place with a certain mouse…
Pharus braced for impact into the seemingly deep water. Ignoring the music playing, they shut their eyes, flexing their toes. And then they landed.

It was only a few feet deep.

They shook their head and fur with a brrrrrrrrrrrrrr and leapt up onto the nearest ground. They took in their surroundings, quickly became overwhelmed, and sat down.

It’s a small world after all. It’s a small world after all. It’s a small world after all.

Pharus screamed, jumped back into the water, and tried to speed-pedal to the nearest exit. Then they realized the boat that was coming to them. With another screech, they yeeted themselves back onto the platform and started running.

Meanwhile, at the Seventh Peak

It was a lovely sunset for a picnic.

“Myth! You’ve outdone yourself” Lyra exclaimed, stuffing her mouth full of tiny sandwiches.

“It was nothing, just food.” Myth grinned, then abruptly turning to Fawkes, “Fawkes! These sandwiches do NOT need toasting!”

“But toasty. I like toa-” Fawkes said happily, then looked down at the now-smoking triangle, “Oh… I burnt it.”

“Mhm.” Myth sighed, throwing another sandwich at Fawke’s head.

“Ow! The sandwich was pointy!” Fawkes yelped as the sandwich hit them. Then the Zorua picked the sandwich off the ground, sniffed it, then ate it.

“Pebble! Get out of the tree!” Allegiant grumbled, looking up at the little Aron who had somehow made his way up the apple tree.

“But it’s so far down!” Pebble yelled back, “And Stella’s not here! I don’t even have my Yeehaw Hat!”

“Paynt?” Allegiant facepalmed.

“Already on it.” The Furfrou nodded, putting her front paws on the tree, and proceeded to scoot up the apple tree using just her arms and legs.

Just as Paynt and Aron reached the ground again, the sky erupted into jagged lightning, sparkling every which way and causing Lyra to stick her head in the ground, like an ostrich.

Allegiant leapt to his hind paws, picked up Paynt and threw her over his shoulder, gently snatching Pebble and putting the Aron under his arm like a little football, and started running. As he ran, he snatched up Fawkes, Lyra, and Myth, throwing them over his shoulder in a similar fashion.

He glanced behind him, realizing that the storm was bringing shadows. And so he kept running and running and running and run-

“HI! WELCOME TO CHILIS!” A fluffy white ball of violence leapt out into Allegiant’s path, brandishing a knife. The Manectric screeched to a halt.

“Mochi?” Allegiant asked, nervously prancing in place, “There’s… uh…”

“Shadows? Storms? MYSTERIES?” Mochi asked, somehow magically switching the knife to a glowstick and standing so she was somehow whisper-yelling into Allegiant’s ear. Then the Veevulpix took a step back and sat down. “We know.” She said calmly.

“We?” Myth asked, from way up on top of Lyra’s tail, which was on top of Paynt… who was still being carried by Allegiant.

“Us! Who else? Hello, fancy meeting you all here.” Nimbus said, awkwardly clambering out of the bush he was hiding in. Supposedly the one Mochi had leapt out of too. As the Vulpix untangled himself from the leaves and branches, they were followed by a fluffy Eevee, a clearly not amused splotchy Zorua, and a Salazzle.

The Eevee stepped up and offered Allegiant a paw, which the Manectric shook with some difficulty. “Heya folks, the name’s Spa- wait. I know you, never mind.” They slipped what seemed to be a business card into Paynt’s pockets. The splotchy Zorua facepalmed.

“Hey Harley, did you guys ever get my note about not letting Fawkes play organ pipes in the future?” Myth yelled.

Harleii nodded, “Yep! We’ll make sure they’re flameproof!”

“WHAT? YES? BUT NO?” Myth shouted.

“Awesome…” Fawkes’ eyes grew big.

“HEY GUYS? The shadows!” Lyra leapt onto her feet (still on Paynt’s back) and shook Myth, clinging to her friend. Myth rolled her eyes, smiled, and patted Lyra on the head. Fawkes blinked and turned away.

The Pokemon turned in the direction that Allegiant had come from, taking careful steps back as the shadows grew and turned into different shapes.

Two enormous shapes.

“GREAT STARCLAN AND ARCEUS AND GIRATINA WHAT IS THAT APPLESAUCE?” Lyra screamed.

“Them.” A voice sounded from behind the group. The Pokemon turned as a a purple fox materialized in front of them, shaking a glowing crystal ball so that it morphed back into a pendant.

“Sak, you here?” The newcomer asked, frantically turning around.

“Right here!” A beautiful Hisuian Zorua popped out of the bush that Nimbus and the others had been hiding in.

“Them? You? Huh?” Nimbus was lost now.

“My name is Fate. And this is my friend, Sakurune.” The purple fox said with a nod. Despite her small size, her authoritative tone carried throughout the whole group. Even Fawkes was silent. “And that… them… they are the Misguided. Shadows that were lost in the Rift and corrupted. They are Yveltal and Darkrai.”

“Yveltal and Darkrai, huh.” Allegiant frowned, setting his friends down. He tapped his chin thoughtfully, “Dark types. With Yveltal also part flying type. So… electric, ice, rock, fairy… fighting won’t do too much to Yveltal… but to Darkrai…” He murmured.

“How about friendly violence?” Mochi asked, brandishing her knife again.

“NO.” Nimbus shouted, immediately throwing himself onto his sister’s back.

“Friendly deals?” Spades offered.

Fate shook her head, “We have to fight.”

“Told you!” Mochi yelled, muffled under Nimbus’ fur.

“How are we supposed to fight, though? We can’t just electric them into oblivion like we did with the Shadow Lugia clone!” Myth yelled.

“Ah. That’s where… they come in…” Fate replied, pointing towards three figures walking across the sky to the now fully formed shadowy figures of a Yveltal and Darkrai.

The first, a light blue Suicune-like creature, was leading the group, charging towards the shadows. Following her, a young and majestic multi-tailed fox was bounding through the sky, though not directly towards the Yveltal and Darkrai. The last was a dark blue and gold Absol, covered in a sort of cartoony mouse themed accessories, with a churro in hand. A pair of mouse ears was on their head. The Absol looked slightly shaken, as if they had just come from a land of chaos.

“Suieri, Guardian of the Springs. She watches the rivers and lakes… primarily bodies of fresh water actually. To quote her, ‘Springs sound cooler than rivers.’ I didn’t tell you that though. Suieri is an ancient Suicune, also known as a Sui.” Fate motioned towards the light blue creature, “She primarily stays around Sahto in her free time, near the Wayward Stream, close to where it empties into the Shadows of the Sunian Ruins, Sahto’s myth-filled sea. She also can typically be found among the Azure Brook, opposite of the Wayward Stream.”

Fate tilted her head towards the fox, “That’s Astra, Guardian of the Divide. Well, full title: Guardian of the Divide and the Stars, or DS. Either of those. She’s a bit everywhere, but usually in Galar, Kanto, or perhaps some other universe.” Fawkes blinked.

“The Absol,” Fate continued (“Fate’s mentor.” Sakurune interrupted, before Fate gave her a friendly whack on the neck ruff.), “is Pharus, Guardian of Storms. Usually they’re a bit serious… not sure what’s happening there.” The shiny Vulpix shrugged, “Usually there’s one more… but I don’t see them. Maybe they’re still getting back from the Great Yeetening.”

“Great Yeet- never mind.” Myth shook their head, “So… what do we do about this? Help them? We shou-”

“No!” Fate cried, frantically jumping up and pacing around the group, “We shouldn’t do anything until they ask us too! They probably have a super secret trick up the-”

“WE DO NOT. ONLY MICKEY MOUSE.” Pharus yelled from up in the air, “AND THAT WAS ONLY ANNOYI-” The Absol broke off as shadows surrounded them and their fellow Guardians. The shadows, like snakes, wrapped around each of the three, trapping them.

“Help it is.” Myth nodded towards Allegiant, who nodded back. The Sylveon and the Manectric launched themselves into the air, propelled by their own fairy and electric powers. Electricity crackled around Allegiant’s mouth, growing larger and stronger, until the Manectric tilted their head back, launching an Electro Ball at the closest shadow, the shadow of Yveltal.

Meanwhile, Myth raced around the forest, dashing to the side, building up their own magic, before letting loose a beam of light, blasting the Darkrai with a love-filled Moonblast. The Sylveon caught a certain Alolan Vulpix running towards them out of the corner of their eye.

“Myth!” Lyra yelled, before shooting a sudden, yet direct and effective Ice Beam over Myth’s head. Myth ducked with a yelp as the Ice Beam found its mark, a dark void creature that was being formed by Darkrai.

Lyra tackled Myth into a hug.

Shrugging, Mochi ran towards the Alolan Vulpix and Sylveon, waving her knife in the air. She leapt at a second dark void creature, this one forming above Myth and Lyra, who both yelped and rolled out of the way.

Mochi yelled, releasing her claws, drawing the knife back. The creature screamed and disappeared. Mochi’s eyes gleamed, “That always works!”

Spades was busy laying out playing cards, placing them strategically around the area. Before doing a little dance. Immediately, each one of the cards turned into a different creature, a shadow similar to Darkrai’s, but these launched themselves towards the Yveltal.

“Go, chaos, go!” Spades yelled after them.

Harleii was busy bringing juice boxes to everyone, aided by Pebble. “YEEHAW!” Pebble yelled, waving a juice box around, accidentally smacking one of the Darkrai creatures in the face with it. “Ooooooh.” Pebble looked down at the shadow that was once a creature, as it disappeared.

The Salazzle hissed at the shadows surrounding her and Nimbus, as she powered up a poison jab, stabbing it at the dark opponents. Nimbus leapt up and let loose an icy wind, being careful to not hit the Salazzle.

A few feet away, Paynt was panicking, resorting to stomping around, not being able to exactly see with the shadows and her hair. Luckily, it was effective and the shadows dispersed under her paws.

In the middle of the chaos, a large wave appeared, nearly sweeping Allegiant away, who darted to the side just in time. As the water ran off, a lone Shinx was left in the middle of the battle. They blinked.

Saiyo looked around, eyes widening, and screamed.

Sakurune and Fate looked at the newcomer and screamed too.

Saiyo mewled and rolled on their back, dodging a dark pulse sent by Yveltal. The Shinx yowled and darted in the direction that the attack came from, charging up electricity by the pawstep. Allegiant stopped in his tracks, baffled by the tiny ball of Shinxy fury yelling at the giant legendary in the sky, but shrugged. The Manectric offered a paw up to the Shinx, who didn’t hesitate.

“Hang on.” Allegiant nodded, as the Shinx ran up his arm. Allegiant drew his arm back, then proceeded to throw the Shinx towards Yveltal, just like a football.

Saiyo hit their mark and yowled, crashing into the giant bird of death with a mighty Wild Charge. Yveltal shrieked, then began falling out of the sky.

With a sudden roar, one of the trapped Guardians freed themselves, lashing out at the shadowy tendrils around them. The shadows struggled, fighting against the glowing, rippling light blue energy struggling inside of them. Then they exploded.

With a similar roar, Suieri directed her power to also blast the shadows around Astra and Pharus. Then with a shared nod, the three Guardians raced towards the falling Yveltal, circling it and catching it with a web of combined energy. Then, Pharus nodded towards Fate.

“Want to be yeeted like that Shinx?” Sakurune asked. Fate nodded.

As she was soaring through the sky, Fate launched her orb at the Yveltal, who upon being hit, glimmered, faded, then disappeared. Sent back to the place it was trying to find, the land it called home.

Suieri sent a current of water, catching Saiyo, and sweeping both them and Allegiant towards Harleii and Pebble, who gave them both juice boxes.

On the other side of the area, the Darkrai sent out spiraling pools of darkness towards the tag-teaming duo of Lyra and Myth, who were launching Moonblast after Moonblast at the creature. Unfortunately, both were getting tired, even with Myth using Heal Bell.

Eventually, Mochi screeched, launching herself at the Darkrai, followed by Nimbus who was hanging onto his sister’s tail with his mouth. Together, the twins took down the Darkrai, causing it to vanish.

But the clouds still stayed. The Darkrai and the Yveltal were only shadows. Shadows cast by another Pokémon. Much like the cloud clones the Shadow Lugia had cast.

This wasn’t over. A screech rang out, reaching every Pokémon’s ears. And the true opponent emerged from the sky.

A fusion.

A Yveltal x Darkrai.

It flung a bolt of bright blue light, aiming for the whole area, intent on obliterating it.

An Eevee smiled, smirking to themselves.

The cards were all on the table. Spades yelled out, becoming surrounded by symbols and fire. The Eevee smirked, growled, and pointed towards the Darkrai.

The symbols flared. The ace up Spade’s sleeve was revealed.

The symbols turned into creatures, the same ones as before, but much more powerful. The creatures merged, flared, and surrounded the fusion. The mythical glimmered, then vanished, in the same pattern as its shadows did. The shadows charged at Darkrai Yveltal, corrupting everything in its path, even emerging from Darkrai Yveltal dark voids - turning the fusion’s own power against them.

Pharus nodded towards Astra, who followed the fusion, making sure it made its way home safe and sound.

The Absol lowered themselves to the ground, beckoning Fate closer. The Vulpix tilted her head and walked over towards Pharus, who immediately began a deep conversation.

The rest of the group stared at Spades in disbelief and confusion. The Eevee dusted themselves off, pausing when they felt the gazes upon them. They looked up and shrugged, “What? It took a while to charge up.”

Still on Harleii’s back, Pebble stood up, brandishing their new juice-box-straw-wrapper cowboy hat that was so small it barely fit his own head, “WHO WANTS JUICE AND SANDWICH?”

It was a haunting night, full of monsters and ghouls roaming the streets. They wander from house to house begging for attention and candy. No one can resist the siren call of free treats. Fable has decided to volunteer watching over the younger pokemon of Team Orchard as they go hunting for candy. Reomai volunteered to take the other group of walking pokemon so she is sticking with the ones that have wings. While she can’t fly, she can outpace the bird pokemon all the same! It’s just a nice side perk that she can collect candy as well. Fable hopes that she can net some sweets with wacan berry filling. Without her carousel harness, she fits in rather well with other costumes as a masked vigilante. The three under her care ended up being Damasque the young rookidee, Covos the fletchinder, and Eldemere the rowlet.

They all chirped with excitement as they donned their costumes. The trio decided to go as the three musketeers, complete with large floppy hats that hold a sweeping feather, a rapier and a flowing cape that swished around as they flew. Team Flying trick or treaters grabbed their pails and flew into the night, leaving Fable to chase them down. She can definitely outpace one, but when all three want to fly in different directions? Another matter entirely. Looks like she has a lot of exercise in store for her!

Luckily, after the first few free roams, she was able to convince them that the three musketeers should ought to roam together, otherwise how would others know that they are supposed to be a trio? It would help to have your companions looking out for your back so no treacherous villain gets the jump on you!

It was getting rather late, but it looked like there were only a few more doors to knock on. One is perched on a rather high hike of a hill with many trees looming over the path. Yet their porch light is on so Damasque, the rather fearless one pipes up. “We definitely need to get to that house! Look, the porch light is on and no one else is going up. I bet that means they would have loads of candy to give to us!”

Covos peers around unconvinced while Eldemere offers no words, just peers up towards the house. “I don’t hear anyone say no so that’s good enough for me!”, then quickly jets off in that direction.

“Ah, don’t worry everyone, I will protect you, let’s follow them before we lose sight of them!” Fable charges forward with the other two valiant musketeers following along.

The woods are no less scary when they get up close, but they decide to fly over head of the trees instead of under the canopy so that they don’t get hit with stray branches.

A quick head count showed that they were all accounted for when they reached the door. Eldemere decided to be the one to knock, and the door easily swung open.

There was no one at the door.

To everyone’s horror, a dark tendril drifted from the door and snatched Eldemere into the darkness!

Eldemere let out a squawk and tried to hold on to the door to no avail.

Then into the darkness everyone else had to venture. Covos conjured a flame from his spot by Fable’s head while Damasque perched on her back so they wouldn’t get lost.

They creep deeper into the house. It is full of dust and furniture ghosts draped in white. Looks like it has been standing empty for a long time. Covos hears something skitter behind a closed door and directs the trio there to investigate.

There didn’t seem to be anything in the room, but when they tried to walk back out, they were in a completely different place from where they started! It was still terribly dark, but the furniture was all gone, leaving only a nest of pillows. Damasque saw a familiar lump and decided to fly over. Familiar it was! It looks like Eldemere was unharmed and only napping in the nest. Yes if Eldemere is here, where is the creature that stole them away?

That was answered quickly enough when a pokemon of darkness and red misty wings floated through a wall. Covos tested the walls a few times. The door that the three walked through ended up disappearing. They were trapped! The figure was both similar to creatures of legends but different at once. With a body of Darkrai and wings of Yveltal, it struck a terrifying figure.

Fable promised to protect the three and protect she shall. Galloping forward, she aimed psycho cuts at the figure before it phased out of the wall. Covos flew acrobatics as an attempt to distract the creature so that Fable could aim another shot at Darkrai. Damasque batted away any stray attacks that could be levied at Eldemere.

While Covos was flying, his bag of candy scattered around the room. The shadow swept forward to collect the sweets and it gave him an idea! He snagged Eldemere’s bag of candy and started pelting Darkai with them.

It looked like Eldemere woke up. They copied the other musketeers and threw sweets, no questions asked. The attack seems like it’s super effective! Darkrai couldn’t resist the sweets and tries to collect as many as possible. Their control over the haunted house loosens and allows Fable to land a dazzle gleam strike on Darkrai. With the conjured moon shining, it’s hard for the to escape to the shadows so they took a direct hit! The illusionary room shook even more with the house dissolving back to normal. The windows, furniture and door were all back.

While Darkrai was distracted, Fable rounded up all the birds and escaped through the window. What a worrisome night! Looks like the three musketeers made it out as a trio. They lost some candy along the way but Fable still had her bag tucked away and divided them up with the three for a job well done.

From the kingdoms castle Az had heard a loud roar. The kingdom of Kezmet hasn’t had danger in a while, this alarming noise sent the towns folk into panic. “I have to get this settled.” Az runs back to an office. Jumping up onto a chair and turns on a microphone. May all council and Sunbather members please report to the main office.

After a while a chingling, a strange looking goodra, a strange looking persian like Pokemon, and what seems to be a very young hisuian zorua walk into the office. The Persian looking one opens her mouth to speak. “Hello Azure. You called us?”

“I indeed did. I will explain once the Sunbathers get here.”

“IF they even show up.” The chingling snapped rudely.

“Well Charm, you also have to realize, the Sunbathers are young. It may take them a bit to get here.”

“WELL THAT’S EXACTLY WHY IT WILL TAKE FOREVER. THEY’RE PRACTICALLY KIDS.”

The small zorua walks forward. “You say that as if I’m not right here. Not only have I been in this council longer than you, and most likely more intelligent than you ever will be.”

“Oh you no good-“ Charm goes to lunge at him. “This is exactly what I’m saying. You don’t think before you act. Also, the Sunbathers are here.”

“So so so sorry we’re late. We got distracted.” Jax heavily breathed in and out quickly.

“Jax, you got distracted. And we followed you.”

Az slammed his paw on the table. “Stop arguing. Now, onto what I want you guys here for. As you know, due to the season as of right now you all know how..strange..it could get around here.”

“Is this about that roar from earlier? Sprout looked at Az puzzlingly. “Yes, it a matter a fact is. I called you all here so I can give jobs and explain what this might be. As we have found out recently, not only can there be more than one legendary Pokemon, or at least look like them, but there can be fusions of them, and this could be one. This thing could be a huge threat to us all. The spike of energy lately has been terrible, so this could be related to the legendary Pokemon Yveltal, which is already horrible in itself.”

Everyone looked around at each other worryingly. “We may need more help than we usually do. Just a maybe. But Sunbathers, I need you to go out there and check this out. Fight if you can. If needed, you can take 025. Actually, do take 025. This is important. We need to get rid of this thing. Now. As for us council members, we will keep watch from afar. We shall also to calm down the towns folk. Now, everyone be on their way.” Everyone walks out of the room. Az goes and turns on another mic. Hello? Hello,Pip are you there?

*COUGH* oh yes I am, sorry.

….Alright. Is 025 with you?

Yes, she is with me. Thank you for allowing me to bring her. I don’t get to see her very often. Which is upsetting. I love her dearly.

Okay. Good to know…I guess. I wish you well on your journey. There was a beep and Az was gone. “Yeah. Thanks. That was really helpful.”

After a while of walking, the group saw a bright red flash a bird like creature shoots up into the sky, almost immediately shooting back down, sending a huge gust a wind around it. It sat their flapping. Staring at the group.

Why do you come here? The creature bellowed.

Pip steps forward. “We have come here to stop you. We have heard your calls from our kingdom, so we have come to stop you from hurting us.” The creature lets out a laugh. Slowly going down and resting. “Hurt you guys? Why would I do that? You haven’t done anything to me. At least I think.” The group looks at each other puzzled. “What?”

“Yeah. I just came to have a look around. Maybe even start some Halloween festivities. I mean, look at me. I’m the combination of two of the most feared gods. That’s kinda my job isn’t it?” The Sunbathers stood there in silence for a bit. “Well, we are having a festival going on right now. Some people from other places have come to visit to bring games. Would you like to come?”

“PIP. What are you doing?” Pine stepped froward. “Well, he doesn’t looks harmful. I mean, he’s kinda scary, but doesn’t look like he will hurt us.”

The creature flapped its wings in excitement. “Yes, yes! I would love to come!”

“We’ll follow us.” Pip gestured his tail forwards. The group walked back to the kingdom.

——————————————————————————————

“PIP. YOU BROUGHT IT BACK??” Az roared at him. “Look, he isn’t going to hurt us. Maybe he could help us. He just wants friends.”

“Maybe, he could be useful…”

“Az, no. We are not exploiting him. Why would you ever think that?”

“I was just..”

“No. Az no. He can protect us if he wants to. You need to understand not everyone wants to work with you.” Az looks to the ground. “Right..” Pip grunts and walks away with his chest puffed out. “Come bird man! Let’s get going. I’ll tell you all the things we could do.” Az jumps in front of them before they leave. She sits down in front of them, almost looking like she’s judging them. She nods her head. “Okay, but if he does any funny business, he’s getting kicked.” Az watches them go off on their own maybe I need to be more opened minded.

The creature looked at her wearily. “Don’t mind her. She gets bossy sometimes. Come on! We can trick-or-treat, well, that starts later tonight, but there is always the forest to explore! Or, or, we could go to the deserts, or there are the barrel surprises!” The creature smiled warmly. “Well, we should probably go eat first.”

“You’re right! We should go. Come on man!” Pip runs off to the booths. The giant bird follows behind him, beaming with happiness.
