Would the prizes be already released outcomes or current store pets/items? Or would they be an exclusive "October writing contest pet/item set"?
Prizes will vary from month to month (and will be shown on the front of the thread for each month so people know what they are competing for) but will be currently existing pets/items. There will not be exclusive pets made as prizes. We hope this can be another method for people to get pets outside of trading or adoption.

that's honestly great to hear. maybe you can give away rare/older pets as prizes, since it's a pretty big problem on CS that rare pets are, well, getting rarer, and almost impossible to obtain anymore aside from if you get lucky december 18th/in the pound, and even that doesn't seem to help enough with decreasing values even by a little bit + the chances of getting said extremely rare pet is slim.

love this idea! i feel like the cs demographic is full of creatives so this would be great to showcase (and highlight the writing talent).
if implemented, as this potentially evolves, it would be awesome to see some competitions venture into oekaki or dressups

Just wanted to let folks know I have updated the front FAQ section with some more of the questions that have been brought up and the answers we have given! Thank you all for bringing up these things - it helps the staff figure out on the back side what we need to figure out as well so we have an answer before this ball gets rolling. If I missed anything, please let me know so I can update it. As well, please keep throwing out your questions and thoughts, it very much so helps. Even if we do not have an answer for you now off the hop, it does make it so we know that is something we need to look into/think about before anything can get moving.
I did address on the front page the "cooldown" period that has come up a few times. I personally do not see it becoming an issue if there are a lot of entries and we have a different staff member every month, mostly because each staff member is going to be a little different in how they judge (as is natural and what we are expecting/hope for). It is something that we will likely discuss though to make sure we do have thoughts on it, in the unlikely chance it occurs. Also for those asking about skill level and stuff - remember all our staff is also at different skill levels with creative writing and with speaking a diverse amount of languages!
As for the prizes, I personally think just one monthly grand prize works best. If that month's judge (or even other lurking staff) want to give out smaller little "hey loved your entry!" prizes on their own perhaps, but I also would not want that to be an expectation on the staff or for those who have entered so it is something we definitely need to discuss and figure out. My reason for keeping it to one prize a month is just so if the competition does end up expanding, that way it would only be three pets a month instead of nine.
Great things to bring up though, remember everything that is my personal thoughts here hasn't been decided on and that in discussion things are absolutely subject to change as we discuss this and figure it out more!

I saw some concern about people not liking the idea of it specifically being a contest, and how people may feel like they "weren't good enough" if they don't win, instead suggesting it to be a challenge with highlighting some entries rather than giving out prizes/winners.
I say there is nothing wrong with having a bit of competition, prizes will certainly warrant more interest and entries! maybe if a proper disclosure given—about how this IS a contest, and if you do not like your work to be judged: simply do not make an entry. no one is forcing you to enter, you can always take the prompt and write something just for fun and share it elsewhere if you do not want it to be judged. maybe a separate dedicated forum for non-entries could be made for that purpose!
