Diz groaned at the owner of the shop, fake charming smile long forgotten. "What do you mean you don't take coin for these berries?" He whined and the owner narrowed their eyes at him.
"Pinkan berries are incredibly rare and extremely valuable, these are berries I cannot grow myself and instead have to collect from a special island, they are priceless"
Diz frowned, "You just said they're valuable and now they're priceless? If they're so special why are you even selling them?" He asked, getting frustrated. He'd never baked a pie before and was just going solely off of Aunties instructions, he was kicking himself now for never helping out his mother with the baking. Diz didn't remember overhearing anything when she would explain the process to his siblings, the only thing he'd recalled was that his favourite pie involved berries. And he was pretty sure it was pinkan berry pie. (spoiler alert he's thinking of pecha berries)
The shopkeeper ignored him and leaned over their counter to look at the bag Diz was wearing, instinctively the eevee took a step back and frowned at the owner. "What?" He asked uneasily.
"Well," The owner began, leaning back and grinning at him, their face the perfect picture of innocence, "If you've got somethin' in that bag that interests me I'll sell one to ya"
Diz wasn't keen on the idea of giving one of his belongings away but Auntie looked so upset when she told him the pies went missing earlier. With a huff he sat down and began to dig through his bag, rifling through it for something he could give up to the owner. He lifted up a small mushroom to them, something he'd gathered in the forest on his way here. The shopkeeper shook their head no and Diz continued to search.
None of the things he'd gathered seemed to be catching the owner's attention and in a fit of frustration, Diz upended his bag onto the ground to search easier. It was then that the shopkeeper leaned over the counter again and pointed to something in the pile. Diz fished out the half-completed gadget he'd been fiddling with. It was nothing impressive, just a fancy way of starting a fire for their campsites.
But it seemed to be good enough for the owner of the shop — and with a grin that hopefully didn't betray the fact that in its current state the gadget wouldn't even work — he handed it over in exchange for the berry. Diz hurried through his thanks and rushed off, not waiting for the chance to the shopkeeper to ask for the berry back.
