A delicate claw peels back the wrapping, and sets the candy beside it on the counter...

"Black wax paper, fitted with little bat ears and cut to resemble wings, open it up and inside you'll find a bright orange hard candy flavored with orange peel, cinnamon, and cardamom. The intricate vines are handspun sugar, kiwi flavor, so delicate they snap with the lightest touch..."

Moschata leaned in, big eyes so curiously taking in the candy before her, "What's the inside?"

"The inside is honey, but we mix it with cayenne to give it a little 'oomph'!" Moschata's mother puffs out her chest with the inflection. "So it's a bit spicy, you might not like it too much, dear."

She puffs her cheeks out at that but doesn't reply. "'N the bat?"

"Ah, the bat, that's the most delicate part, it's a gummy, but we infuse it with ghost pepper. So it goes from warm hard candy, hot honey, to a spicy kick at the end."

"Is that why all those people's faces turn red eatin' em?"

The older kalon laughed, "That's right! Every Halloween folks line up to get little bags of these, our signature Halloween Warmer!" She pulls Moschata to her side, "And this year, you get to help me make them!"

- covered in a layer of citric acid (warning label on the back, these things are Sour and will potentially make you drool)
- once that's out of the way it gets a bit sweeter (the candy itself is pumpkin spice flavored)
- the reward for having your face scrunched up and your tongue burning is the gooey center! just a simple vanilla-ish filling, to soothe your poor mouth
- the flavors are supposed to replicate pumpkin pie + cream
- there's something oddly addictive about them and that's why the neighborhood kids (and adults) keep coming back for more

Alukah looked at his older sibling, blinking with big bright eyes.

"Lulu, cut the vamp act!" He ruffled Alulak's hair lovingly. "I'm sure these blood pops are amazing though. You've always had a real knack for making great candies."

"Silence, foolish mortal! I am a great vampire, a devious beast of the night! Do not speak down on such a devilish candy maker!"

His brother giggled at his silly speech and patted his back, glancing to the door. Other kits were beginning to walk down the pathway to their house, expecting a sweet treat from them.

"Alright, ready to show them how great of a candy making vampire you are?"

Alukah nodded and grinned.

Jack-O-Shroom gummies were Latte’s favorite candy of all time, and he couldn’t wait to go trick-or-treating so he could hope to get some in his bag! They tasted just like sweet pumpkin spice, and they were chewy but never got stuck in his teeth. The best part is they were orange! They matched Latte’s silky fur, and it made him feel special and sweet, just like his favorite candy!
