The cafe. He's always loved the little one by his apartment, he spends more time there than in his own home. He loves to sit and watch, a warm cup of coffee sitting next to his laptop, the murmurs of others quiet while he waits for his boyfriend to meet him at the table they always sit at. It's where they met; it's a place that he considers his own but one that he doesn't mind sharing with others. He likes the shop most when it's quiet, when there are only a few people and himself present, the staff clearly grateful for the lull in traffic. But when it's busy it isn't so bad either, hearing people chat while they wait in line, complimenting the store's atmosphere or apologizing to each other for stepping on toes. The windows that surround three walls of the cafe nearly go to the floor, letting in the sunlight during the day and the dim highlights of the street lamps at night.

He loves this cafe. It's the only one he'll ever go to, much to his boyfriend's dismay. He could probably recite the menu from memory. It's truly his favorite place. And to his further excitement, he might get to work with the people he's come to know so well soon enough, having applied for their open position. He's not much of a barista but he's willing to learn. He can't wait to tell his significant other once he gets there for their date.

"It's cold."

Auburn recoiled as the voice confronted her ears, pulling her away from her thoughts. The woman in front of her had spoken so matter-of-factly that it only took Auburn a moment to collect herself, though she was still a bit shaken from the abruptness of the interruption.

"I know that," Auburn's eyes narrowed as she glared up at the barista, her mouth forming a tiny scowl. "It's Autumn. It's supposed to be cold. No one would come here otherwise." Auburn's eyes drifted away from the barista as she spoke, her chin coming to rest heavily on her palm as she stared out the window. Autumn was verifiably in full swing. Thousands of brightly colored leaves ornamented the ground, or danced on gusts of freezing wind. Wind that Auburn was, admittedly, not in the least bit prepared to confront in only her threadbare turtleneck.

"I meant the drink." The barista woke Auburn from her thoughts again, pointing towards the completely untouched mug of coffee that Auburn had ordered what she thought had been a few minutes ago, but clearly had been much longer if it had already went cold.

"Oh," Auburn picked up the mug, confirming that the coffee was, in fact, ice cold. "Sorry, then. About what I said." Auburn continued to study the mug as she absentmindedly apologized, quickly getting lost in thought again.

The barista turned to walk away, addressing Auburn one last time despite being certain she wouldn't hear.

"I'll make another cup."

doing well!! There were all so many lovely entries I had a super hard time deciding between everyone but

I really enjoyed the way you took this prompt and felt it was the most unique in interpretation and am excited
to see where you'll take Sugarbun and this potential war mentioned by Brutus ! I felt the world building was

the story would continue to develop!!
