Entry: Sara is so excited to learn today's activity is a nature walk! This is perfect for her, she is barely able to stop herself from jumping in place from excitement! They eagerly set off into the forest, wondering what cool things they will come across today. As she wanders along a path, her adventure seems to be off to an excellent start as she quickly comes across a family of squirrels darting between the trees. Though they are careful not to stray too far from the path, Sara cannot help but follow them for a little bit, curious where they are headed. The squirrels soon afterwards climb a large tree, moving out of Sara's sight... But she sees some beautiful flowers unlike any she's ever seen before growing beside the tree.
Sara examines the flowers closely, before taking out their sketchpad and carefully drawing a picture of the flowers, making notes on their coloration and other details. She will have to do some research on what kind of flowers they are when she returns home from camping. Putting the sketchpad back in their backpack, Sara takes a last look at the flowers before making their way back to the path. Fortunately, she is able to find her way back relatively quickly, and soon she is walking along the path again in search of more cool things.
As they continue on, they soon come across a small pond, surrounded by rocks partially or entirely covered by moss. There even seem to be a couple of fish living in the pond! A small stream of water trickles into the pond, likely from either the ocean or the lake. Sara walks over, watching the fish swim around as well as trying to guess where the stream of water is coming from. Soon she takes out her sketchpad again and begins to draw the area as well, taking great care to get all the details just right. They even manage to draw the fish despite them swimming around!
After finishing her sketch, Sara continues along the path, wandering farther into the forest. As they walk past a tree, they notice movement on one of the branches and look closer. There is a butterfly there! Sara watches as its wings flutter a bit... Then realizes there are actually a bunch of butterflies on the tree! Amazed, Sara tries to count them all, but there are just so many! After watching them for a while, she decides to draw this scene, wanting to remember it forever since she has never seen so many butterflies at once before. Carefully so as not to disturb the butterflies, Sara takes out their sketchpad once more and begins to draw the tree, adding tiny butterflies on all the branches to try to replicate the scene before them.
When she eventually finishes her drawing, Sara moves on, realizing that if she keeps getting sidetracked she will not have time to finish her hike before it is time to head back to camp. This still does not stop them from pausing a few more times to sketch a cool plant or rock they come across, though. By the time Sara returns to camp, it is quite late in the afternoon, but she's very happy about everything she saw today, and smiles as she flips through her sketchpad to relive the memories.

Rosemary streched herself before heading towards the forest, being someone who enjoys a good hike or stroll she decides to spend some time there but knows that she must be back before it get's dark. She had already grabbed a hiking stick and a compass out from her tent before she started so that she did not get lost and making a trail could get her back from point A to point B, whist she was walking she could hear the birds chirping and the trees swaying, she was in the zone when she tripped on the overgrown root of the tree and kept stumbling down until she splashed into the lake. She stood up and felt sorry for herself, cause of that she had to cut the hiking short and had to head back to the campsite drenched and soaking wet.

As the needles of pine, fir, and spruce trees rustled against him, Zeno felt a sense of wonder. He didn't like to show it, but hiking through wooded areas of towering coniferous trees always made him feel as though he was in control over his life. The paw prints behind him winded towards a trail entrance only a few metres away, which he had just walked through only seconds before. After the short pause, standing in between the trees on the narrow path, Zeno continued forwards on his nature walk. The path looked hardly used, with overgrown bushes spilling out from the sides of the trail to cover up sections of the walkway. He could not remember the last time even he had entered past the signpost marking the beginning of the walk, and clearly he was not the only chicoon to neglect this trail. He wound around the bushes and pines with not a thought, his mind going into a quiet trance that the heat of summer always exacerbated. There were many benefits to this place: there were no birds making an unnecessary racket, it had a lack of chattering chicoons that gave him headaches unmissed, and, in addition, there was an absence of tedious plants to investigate and analyze. This was why he preferred the calm of the softwood forests. He passively processed other animals wandering about; a rabbit hopping after nothing in particular, a deer picking at some berries in the undergrowth, and even.. was that another chicoon? He halted mid-step, the flash of bright colours and fire-crested tail burning in his mind's eye. He hesitated, unsure of whether he wanted to pursue the potential conversational partner. In general, Zeno did not enjoy talking to others, but, well- he was feeling strangely adventurous. He glanced at his paws, their green tint suddenly striking him as camouflage, and made his decision. He somewhat reluctantly began to follow in the path of the other chicoon, honking to try and gain its attention periodically.
After what could have been a minute or perhaps an hour, Zeno had seen glimpses of what he thought was the other, mystery chicoon whisking through the firs and pines. He began to run, a strange pull towards the stranger motivating his rhythmic pawsteps. After what seemed like endless turns, he finally caught up to- no one. He found himself in an open meadow, purple lilacs waving in the summer breeze, with the shadowy underbrush behind him. There were no other chicoons here. Whomever had led him here was gone, disappeared to some unknown direction into the bordering conifers. That suddenly did not matter, though. Unlike in the darkness of the forest, a certain kind of peace seemed to linger in this meadow of lilacs and reedgrass. His nature walk had led him, perhaps purposefully, to this timeless place. Zeno began to hear birds chirping within the treeless meadow, but oddly enough, he did not feel annoyed. He did not feel exposed underneath the open sky, either. It was all terribly strange. Strange, but he still cautiously allowed himself to rest. He slowly settled into a sitting position, and looked up at the cloudless summer sky. Maybe the chittering of the birds wasn't so bad after all, and maybe he would have to find that stranger someday.

Kino, despite his rambunctious and chaotic nature, does enjoy going out into the calm wilderness from time to time. The soft grass between their paws is a good contrast to the usual rough-and-tumble they face. He usually just frolics, always taking little notes of things he sees or hears. He especially likes flowers, however. They're the light of his life.

Entry: Kimmy bounces happily through the forest, she's having a grand time looking at all the pretty tall trees. Some look just perfect for climbing and as such she keeps stopping to do just that! When she climbs up to the tops of some trees she sees all kinds of cool critters like lots of birds and even a humongous squirrel! Or wait... No that's another Chicoon! She honks in greeting waving to the funny Brown Chicoon before climbing back down to keep looking for critters!

Chicoon: Palette, Puzz

Show or tell us about your Chicoon taking a nature walk! What do they do / see?

Entry: Palette rucks his head under some low-hanging shrubbery, his feathers catching on the twigs and pulling at his pins, he honked in frustration, swatting bugs out of his face and shaking mud off his back hand. Puzz called out ahead of him although he was barely audible over the sounds of morning birds and morning crickets. Palette yawned and let out a disgruntled honk, it was too early in the morning to go on a hiking trip along the cliffside, Puzz had mentioned wanting to show him something, but it was cold, and foggy, and honestly he really wasn't feeling up to this "amazing scenery" Puzz kept going on about yesterday afternoon. Palette trotted after Puzz, barely being able to see them besides their bright rainbow-colored flame Palette was always so amazed by its unique shape and colors he often found himself staring at it and watching it flicker and bob like flames do. Puzz never seemed to mind, in-fact Puzz seemed honestly happy to see Palette so intrigued by his flame, almost like it was a source of pride for the rainbow chicoon.
Puzz had stopped farther ahead and as Palette caught up with him he chuckled and shouldered Palette teasingly, asking why Palette was so much slower despite Puzz not having legs! Palette grinned, shooting back that Puzz has legs, the only difference is that Puzz didnt grow them himself, instead, he got the best quality legs a chicoon could get! The pair laughed but Palette ended with a sigh, Puzz smiled knowingly, the goal-location wasn't much farther ahead, in fact it was just over the crest of this hill at the base of the tree found at the top. Puzz jumped behind Palette, nudging him forward with his head and urging him to make it up the mountain, the excitement in the chicoons honks growing stronger and stronger with every step. Palette was weary, his pawsteps were still careful as he didnt want to fall back down the mountain of a hill he had just spent all morning climbing up!
As the pair got closer to the hilltop, breaking through the dense brush and trees, coming up to an awkward root that was bent out of shape (almost in a bench-like shape!) Palette finally noticed how bright the sky was, the sun was barely breaking the treetops; painting the sky in brilliant pinks and oranges and tinting the deciduous forest with dodges of gold and coral. Palette knows now that Puzz had waken him so early, so they could get to the viewpoint with plenty of time to spare, and Palette was finally thankful for this. The two of them watched over the next hour as the sky changed colors over the horizon, dying the ocean below them with reflective colors, and as the distant lake was filled with the sky. Puzz had even brought a few snacks to watch the sunrise with, after a hearty workout up the tallest hill around, a breakfast of blueberries was exactly was Palette wanted. They talked in hushed voices through noon and slowly returned back to camp with sunburns and smiles on their faces- as they returned Puzz described the view and the location to Wes before falling asleep in a chair by the campfire.

Wes smiled and listened to each chicoon recounting their days away from the campgrounds. A few had found some wonderful napping spots, others had followed tracks. One chicoon had even drawn some amazing scenes in their sketchpad!! Wes honked, ears flapping happily as they showed the drawings to him.
A few chicoons mentioned seeing strangers in the forests, chicoons made of water or just shadows out of the corners of their eyes. YIKES! Hopefully whoever, or whatever, these specters were would show themselves soon...

Wes jumped, a few feathers falling from his coat. A chicoon had just snuck up on him, saying they were looking for Quillflight! Mouth agape, he pointed them in the right direction...

Chicoon: Meelis

Oh no! We're Lost!
How does your Chicoon make their way back to the campsite?

Entry:
It was a warm night. Crickets chirped and fireflies danced in the moonlight. Meelis was outside his tent with his outdoor gear. He made sure no one was watching before slowly and quietly making his way tot he forest entrance. From there, he hid up in a large tree and waited for his target to pass by. What was he waiting for? Well, to talk about that we have to go back to the lake.

The lake was very enjoyable that morning. Meelis swam in the cool waters until she longer could. She dragged herself to a nice spot in a shade and slept for a bit. She woke up due a commotion not far away. A mysterious chicoon was lecturing other fellow campers about the dangers of this place and were confiscating the campers' souvenirs. When they complained, the mysterious chicoon just told them they'll get something special in return if, they keep this quiet and come back to the forest at night time. Most of the chicoons were upset and stomped away from the lake. Meelsi also would have been offended if not for that sweet gift the mysterious chicoon was talking about. What could it be? A brand new pear watch? Maybe it's the special edition folder cosmos phone she was hearing about. Eyes glittering, Meelis decide to sneak tot he mentioned place.

Back at the forest entrance, Meelis finally lucked out. The mysterious chicoon and a few campers met up and headed into the forest. He gleefully followed the group without getting caught. It wasn't that hard actually. The night was very dark and the natural noises drowned his footsteps. Unfortunately, this meant he also had hard time seeing the group ahead. And they were moving quite quickly. Meelis tried his best to follow but in the end he lost sight of them. Disappointed, Meelis took a quick breather and headed the way back to the camp. Or he thought. The forest was like a maze and the darkness was not helping him. every turn felt like the one before and he felt he was going in circles. Yes, Meelis finally accepted he was lost and alone.

At least he was in an open field and was a bit brighter. Meelis sighed and looked up at the sky. The moon was beautiful and the stars shone brightly. He was mesmerized by the natural beauty surrounding him. He was going to stay here for the night and hope that he'll find a way out in the sun when it suddenly hit him. A compass fell from a tree and bonked his head. Startled, Meelis honked at the tree but there was nothing up there. He was a little spooked but he decided to check the compass out. Upon closer inspection, the compass was not actually a compass at all. It was a gps tracker that resembled a compass. At the back, it read "To the camp". Who threw this at him? was it one of the campers that followed intot he forest? Or could it been the legendary cryptid that everyone was gossiping about? But whoever it was, Meelis thanked them by honking and slowly made his way back to the camp. by the time he reached the camp, the sun was rising to start a new day. [551 words]
