Prompt Response:
ice storm and autumn sky are both sheltering further in the city at the time. upon hearing the collapse in the night the two warriors decide to investigate for possible supplies and feathers. they creep into the area by using catwalks and wires connecting the old structures rather than risk the flooded streets below them. keeping a quiet paw just in case a little hunting could be done in the quiet alcoves of the ruined city. Rufus and stormy sea's party meanwhile had begun their trek back toward their clans settlement. wanting to make sure everyone was safe and accounted for after the rush of water and noise that went throughout last night.

Perspective [Kaneli, #A89]

With a flick of the tail and ears, I clamber carefully down the grate that I helped Ube and Anemone climb up earlier, along with my new friend. It doesn't look like anyone was hurt during the flooding, but I do my best to check up on everyone I see anyways. While we were hiding out on top of the abandoned structure, we could hear the crumbling of stone and soon later the impact and shaking of the ground as the wind, rain, and rush of angry water rendered one of the taller structures into the ground, liquifying the asphalt like sand and sending cracks sprawling across the abandoned city like shattering glass. It was both horrifying and breathtaking to behold, the true, honest, brutal power of mother nature claimed more in her name, taking all she pleased asunder. Of course, it's a mix of morbid curiosity, fear, and concern that drives me to pursue the crumbled breezeblocks and splintered gnarled wood that's settled itself into the earth like a graveyard of once great things.

Mostly, the forefront of my mind is overtaken by panic that any of the others who followed little Anemone, Ube and I into the city may have been trapped in the debris, that if I hesitate now someone's last gasp could be struggling to reach their lungs. My own burn, chest still heaving and heartbeat pounding loud in my ears from a mix of adrenaline and anxiety, while I run and leap over the hazardous obstacles in my way, driven into the street by the incredible monsoon. As I see the towering remains of what was once a safe structure, a home, once a place of creativity where some other creature built it to achieve new heights, I inhale sharply at the cold trill of anticipation. Then, I begin the arduous task of searching for injured survivors... and whatever possible remains could be buried by the calamitous onslaught. I'm not a believing type but against my will a small prayer escapes under my breath, I hope if there is any of the latter to find, that I wont find it.

It's painful to think of having to deliver that kind of loss, I can't help picturing sweet Anemone's face, drenched from the rain as they sneeze and little droplets shoot off everywhere. There's a part of me that remains hopeful, maybe there will be a new place to explore, hidden behind one of the many locked and holdfast wooden doors that blocked any given advances. Just my luck, as I crawl in through the shattered bits of what was once a window high up in the stone tower trying to keep shards from piercing my paws, I find a door that was familiar from the outside, now open and shattered at the middle with a hail of thorns on the floor radiating out from it, washed up in a wave to form a strange pattern on the floor. I take a look around, wary and worried, however that morbid curiosity piqued again of course.

In destruction sometimes there is beauty in spite of the harm, I look up to what was once a wall above my head where the sunlight peaks from behind clouds and rays reach inward casting twinkling reflection on the floating dust not yet settled, unaware of the halo of splintered wood under paw alight in a warm glow.

Prompt #4

Characters: Pyla #F271, Waxwing #F270, and Asclepias #E13

Asclepias was just coming back to her senses when the bang sounded. She jumped, a small gasp echoing around the room. The first thing she did was look to her companions; not a single motion. That is, not a single motion until Pyla lifted her head, blinking and looking around. She looked where Asclepias once was, flicking her ear and searching the dark room.

Asclepias?” she called, careful to not wake Waxwing. The kit turned to her, tilting her chin up.

“The rain stopped. I heard a loud bang… I think something bad happened.” She whispered, meandering her way back to Pyla. The cream molly stood up, stretching. Concern filled her amber eyes.

“Oh? Well, I’m sure it won’t hurt to,” her voice was cut by a yawn, “check it out, no? I’ll wake Waxwing. You should be able to look out the window by climbing on the sofa to see.”

Asclepias nodded, trotting to the sofa and making her way upwards, putting her paws on the frame of a smashed window. A short, horrified breath was all she could draw in, Pyla turned to her, Waxwing now awakened.

“Everything alright?”

“The building across the road…… it fell! It fell down!” She turned around, panic in her voice. Pyla’s eyes widened with alarm. Waxwing shared the same expression.

“What if… there were cats in there too? What if they were sheltering, just like us? Oh, this is terrible!” Asclepias cried. She jumped down from the sofa, running for the window next to the fire exit. Pyla caught her by the scruff.

“Slow down. I’m sure a crowd has already gathered to help - we don’t need to be there right this second. We should get going, however.” Waxwing stood up as he spoke, stretching and kneading his claws into the carpet before padding to the exit.

Pyla placed Asclepias on the floor, and she followed Waxwing, falling into step next to him and jumping out the window to the fire exit. As soon as all of them were down on the city streets, they worked their way to the building, crossing the street to the building. Some city cats had already gathered around, chattering anxiously. Some were already entering. Asclepias looked up at Pyla and Waxwing.

“Can we… go in?” She murmured, looking up. Waxwing nodded slowly.

“It’s only right. Come on.” Pyla led the trio, carefully picking her way around the crowd and into the building. It reminded her of one of the beach caves, or a cave inside the shoreline rocks. They were quickly surrounded by the crumbled concrete walls, a tunnel to what could be stranded and injured cats. Water fell occasionally from the ceiling, creating an eerie echo of dripping water and pawsteps. They pressed on, calling to see if any cats were inside.

But if there were any, they obviously weren’t here. The calls fell on deaf ears, if any ears at all, and soon they were standing in the darkness of a rich smelling, soaked concrete tunnel. Pyla sighed, twitching her ear as it echoed throughout the passage.

“Let’s go back. Nobody is h-“

A crash sounded, just down the way they came. All three turned quickly, watching as their only known escape - the passage - collapsed. No other way out was in view, at least not yet. Waxwing’s heart dropped, and Asclepias whimpered, backing up into and pressing against Waxwing’s leg. Pyla’s tail dropped, and she drew in a shaky breath.

“W-well…. Uhm…. I guess… the only way to go is forward.” Her head dropped, and she nudged Asclepias along, Waxwing following suit. While they were going, they kept calling, hoping for a sign of at least one cat.

Nothing. At least, nothing they could hear.

Finally, after what felt like moons upon moons, a light flickered through. A hole in the side of the wall from where it had collapsed again, the caved in section a blessing amidst darkness. However, across from it, stood another point of interest. Another hall, with more light coming from it. The group stopped, looking down the hall. It was long, with plenty of spaces where injured cats could be. On the other hand, they’d been through enough stress in these tunnels already. What if it happened again? Pyla and Waxwing turned to eachother.

“Let’s go down the hall.”

“We should get going.” Both cats spoke at the same time, eyes widening. Waxwing sighed, turning to the kit who was still shaking from shock.

“Asclepias? What do you think?”

“Either one works for me….”

Pyla frowned.

“Well, Waxwing… present your point. Why should we go down the hall?”

Instead of sighs or calls, it was now passive arguing that filled the passage.

Prompt 5 Results

Neon sparks - [Post]
Ice Storm and Autumn Sky creep between the buildings, high aloft on shattered pylons and bits of rubble. From the feathers all over the place, macaws nested here once, and the pair are quick to grab them before they head off. When they finally meet back up with Rufus and Stormy Sea, they have amassed a good number of feathers to show off to the cats at camp, along with something they found shining in the mud; you have found a moderate line edit!

You have found:
    8 feathers
    1x moderate line edit

Aizui - [Post]
After the small group had gotten their feet back underneath them, a loud crash shattered the silence. Worried that there might be cats trapped in the rubble, the trio set off, peering into the revealed cavernous interior. While they didn’t find any cats, and only a few feathers, Ajwa noticed something shining on the floor of the room; you have found a maximal line edit!

You have found:
    2 feathers
    1x maximal line edit

Adamented - [Post]
Your exploration into the new space brought you into a quiet, calm room, quite at odds from the terrifying monsoon that had raged just moments ago. The air is still, and dust floats by as you pad across the floor, illuminated in the flow of light through the remnants of vast stained-glass windows. From the lack of pawprints in the dust, this place had been sealed up to anyone without wings for many years, although macaws had nested here, judging by the piles of feathers you gather up to take with you.

The stillness is a welcome respite from the chaos of the floodwaters, and you are relieved that you haven’t found any cats in acute distress. With your feathers in your mouth, you plan on returning to Anemone and Ube so as to show them this new place, when something shining in the dust catches your eye; you have found a double stat reroll!

You have found:
    10 feathers
    1x double stat reroll

harvestberry - [Post]
“Well, I thi–wait. Wait, did anyone hear that?” Waxwing held up a paw, looking into the darkness with his ears pricked. “I swore I heard something move down there.”

“What if it’s dangerous? We can’t take Asclepias down there; what if it’s a predator?” Pyla asked, tail curled protectively around the kit in question.

“What if it’s someone who needs help, though?” Waxwing countered. “If someone needs help, I’m not going to leave them here.”

With that, Waxwing ventured cautiously into the tunnel, treading carefully in case of any further water damage to the floor. Pyla watched for a moment, tail twitching across the floor, then motioned to Asclepias to follow Waxwing; if one of them was going, they would all go.

After what seemed an age, the trio emerged into a dusty room, illuminated by light streaming down through a crack in the roof. Lying in the middle of the floor, covered in dust and mud and clearly exhausted, was a cat. As Waxwing approached, all three cats noted that the stranger’s coat seemed to be a hodge-podge of different patterns, like nothing they had ever seen.

“Do you need any help?” Pyla asked softly, not wanting to startle the strange cat, who looked up at the three with an expression of deep surprise and relief.

“Oh, other cats!” they cried, turning to face Pyla. “I thought I was trapped in here! Can I come with you?”

Prompt 6

All the cats have regrouped at the main camp after the monsoon, grateful for the assistance from their own team and from the other team. The onset of the rainy season, though, means it is almost the end of the feather festival!

It’s almost time to leave; what’s the last thing you want to do in the jungle?

Prompt #6

Characters: Pyla #F271, Waxwing #F270, and Asclepias #E13

Waxwing shook the droplets from his fur, looking to the sky and taking a deep breath. It was dawn on the last day; the sky was overcast, sending small occasional droplets down. He stood, shaking them out of his fur and glancing at his companions. Pyla and Asclepias were already awake, holding a quiet conversation. He began padding over to them, and both turned around, Asclepias grinning.

“Morning, sleepyhead!” She mewed, lifting her tail. Waxwing trilled at her, amused.

“Good morning. Anything interesting happen yet?” He mewed, sitting down next to Pyla. She turned to him, flicking her ear.

“Not yet. We were thinking of going into the jungle because Asclepias.. hasn’t been, yet. It’s our last day; she might never come back and get to see it!” Waxwing glanced at the small kit. She was looking away with her tail tucked neatly over her paws, embarrassed.

“Hey! It’s not like I could have ever had the choice to go in! Mama always said not to unless an adult was with us… I didn’t want to disrespect her!”

Waxwing twitched his whiskers. “Well… that certainly seems fair. Let’s go deeper into the jungle, then.” Asclepias’ eyes lit up.

“Let’s go, then! Oo, oo, I want to see the clearing! And the river! And the waterfall!” Pyla stuck her tail out in front of the kit, blocking her.

“Pace yourself. Let’s follow the river to the waterfall. We have enough time.” Asclepias nodded, slowly stepping over the cream molly’s blockade and trotting forward. Waxwing and Pyla followed, alert for danger as the kit explored. She left no stone unturned; she ran around checking everything from the ferns to the flowers, poking around in every crevice.

It was quite odd that she’d never been out, even when her parents were around. She could have followed any other adult city cat and she would have been fine. Speak of her parents, where were they? They weren’t anywhere to be seen when they found her, and it didn’t seem like there were any cats looking for her. She was refusing to talk about them, as well. Something was amiss. These questions tortured Waxwing, but when he snapped to his senses, all his worries vanished. She seemed happy as a housepet in a pile of food.

At some point, she wandered closer to the river, dipping her paw in it. Pyla’s ears perked.

“Do you know how to swim yet?” She mewed, padding over to stand next to the kitten. It was a very good question; coastal life was no place for a cat that couldn’t swim. Asclepias beamed up at her.

“Of course! Every jungle cat can swim. It’s the first thing they teach you!” As soon as she finished talking, there was a splash on the water’s surface. She turned, pupils going slitted as she crouched, lowered her tail, and, in a snow-colored flash, dove into the torrential waters. Waxwing yelped in alarm, but it didn’t take long for her head to poke back up, small paws churning beneath the surface to carry her back to the land. In her mouth was a shining, silver fish. Barely half the size of her, but still fairly big a catch for a young cat to pull off in such a violent river. She dragged herself out, shaking the droplets from her fur.

“See? It’s second nature at this point. Come on, let’s go!” She left her catch behind, trotting down the riverside again.

“But, your ca-“

“Leave it! I’m sure someone else who’s hungry will find it. We already ate.” Pyla and Waxwing shared a glance, shrugging before they followed her. The clearing soon entered sight, as well as the waterfall. She slowed down, stopping in place to gawk at it. Waxwing chuckled.

“Quite the sight, ain’t it?”

“It’s beautiful… but the sunsets on the beach are even prettier than that, I bet! I see some cats in the clearing over there, let’s go!” Asclepias bounded ahead, Waxwing right behind, while Pyla kept a slower pace. She lifted her head, closing her eyes and catching the rich, exotic breeze one more time.

The end of the journey was near. It was hard to believe everything that had happened; so many new companions, friends met along the way that would stick around for many moons to come. The jungle would forever be a memory, along with everything that they did here.

But, it was better to think in the moment. And she had a group to catch up to at the clearing.

Perspective [Kaneli, #A89]

It's been a wild trip. I can't help now the deep sinking feeling of home sickness as I sleep in the dim corner of a structure left standing after the flood, surrounded by few who I recognize. I miss my home and the others where I come from, even though the stuffy suffocating air of the humid jungle and its city within no longer bothers me. It's been a good time but a harrowing one... encountering snakes, strangers, rapid dangers waters from sudden storms, crumbling buildings toppling to the earth from whence they came. There's many beauties and horrors about the natural world and the laws that govern it, a show of power by the weather itself certainly has me on edge. I can't help but jump at any hint of strong wind or dancing raindrops, an uncomfortable nervous feeling trembling beneath my fur, I don't sleep very well that night, if at all.

I'm still waiting for the water to come back to wash me away, along with all my new found friends and unfortunate strangers.

It doesn't happen, though, when my groggy eyes squint at the floor and the rays of sunlight glittering off broken glass that cast patterns across my paws I can't hear any heavy rain or blowing winds. Just the distant fast flowing river and its angry rapids, reinvigorated by the torrent. I can't help the shudder. Currents and snakes. I'm not sure how much I really like the jungle, after all.

It's not long before I find my paws padding forward again, I run into familiar faces as everyone begins to gather. "What will you do today?" Asks Anemone, watchful father only tail lengths away, silent but observing. He's still nervous too, without making eye contact I dip my head to acknowledge him and his own struggle with what had transpired yesterday. I take a moment to ponder my options, I suppose I could try to find more feathers for my team. I think we've got a good amount, I've been helping out this long in spite of the perils so I may as well keep going. What else could this jungle even have to throw at me that it hasn't done?

On second thought... maybe just a nice walk. If I happen to find a nest... then fine. "I think I'll wander around today. I haven't spent much time in the city. Do you and Ube feel like joining me?" Anemone seems thoughtful but Ube gives a warning look, tail tip twitching slightly.

"I think we're going home to the jungle again soon." I nod, a little disheartened that my only close friends and comfort among the city are leaving so soon. I remind myself that I'll be going soon, too, and try to bid a genuine goodbye of well wishes. I don't want to dwell on the sadness of it all.

I spend the rest of my day wandering the city, observing the damage and looking for any cool spots I might have missed, while reflecting on what I've learned and seen here. I wonder if I can bring some of Ube's and Cliffside's language of gesture home to my own clowder. Maybe next Feather Festival, I can come back and learn some more of it.

with the festival coming to an end, the cats are almost ready to head home. they decide to spend the day together scavenging what they can from the vast jungles. the prey and plants here are far richer than anywhere within their own territory back in the desert. autumn sky and ice storm pair together once again to hunt through the foliage for colorful items to bring back, supervising the citizens who had trailed along with them. the cats would spend most of their remaining time getting as many fiddles as they can get their paws on. some taking multiple trips to gather more than they could really visibly bring back with them. though this little thing of how much one can fit in their own mouth is little reason to stop the cats who are used to hoarding anything shiny or even remotely bouncy. even after the desert clan leaves the jungle clans will have many little caches of sparkly rocks and bottle caps to find!

as the moon rises over the camp the cats have a small party together. or as much a party as cats can make. there were many a story telling and sharing tounges among both old and new friends.
