Amalthea didn't fit in with Shoreclan, the former group of cats she used to reside with. Instead, she set off on a long journey to find a new home and a new group of cats. She traveled from what the humans know as California to Arizona, and she stopped one afternoon in a forest of very tall, prickly plants. As she rested, she gazed at the sky and watched as pinks, purples, and oranges painted the sky. Thea was mesmerized by the sunset of the Sonoran Desert, and she knew that this would be the perfect new home for her group.

She quickly learned more about the area. The forest of plants are known as saguaro, a species of cactus. Among the desert, there are many other cacti as well, such as the ocotillo and the prickly pears. Amalthea found out about jumping cholla in the unfortunate way... one of the prickly plants practically leapt at her and hooked into her pelt! She walked around for days searching for another cat to help her, and she was lucky to find someone with healing knowledge.

Unfortunately, all of these wonderful ideas in her head haven't exactly come to fruition. Amalthea hasn't met anyone who's been willing to join her group, which is now proudly called the Saguaro Syndicate. Instead of most clans, she's made up different rules and traditions. Rather than "moons", cats name their ages by "sunsets", meaning how many days they've lived and essentially how many sunsets they've seen. Amalthea also came up with a different hierarchy of ranks -- such as her rank as the leader called the Solaris, meaning "of the sun". The Aurora would be her heir, meaning "dawn". The kits are Ortus, meaning "sunrise" or "daybreak". The elders are Occasus, meaning "setting of the sun".

Although she often feels lonely, she feels confident in her ability to lead and that those with pure hearts will join her.
