I'm a part time pharmacy technician and full time author!
What is a pharmacy technician/what do they do/how do you get that job?
Pharmacy technicians are the people you see at the pharmacy ringing out prescriptions :) Behind the counter we are the ones that fill your prescriptions, type them when they come in from the doctor, answer your phone calls and questions, and cashier when prescriptions are picked up. It's a a fast paced job (especially where I am, although it will depend on your area and staff). You're on your feet most of the day. It's not a job for most people, as it is a form of retail (unless you want to go to a hospital/nuclear/mail order pharmacy). If you choose to go into this field, you have to understand that (like all jobs), people don't know what's going on behind the counter. They may have just come from the hospital, they may have a sick family member, they may be in a hurry, etc etc. You're not going to have all nice customers.
But it definitely feels rewarding when you do get to connect to your customers. It's a great feeling to know you've helped better their health.
I personally got my job with 0 schooling or experience, and started as a pharmacy technician in training. My job gave training and paid for it, along with schooling (paid) to get certified. You do have to pay to get your actual license to be a pharmacy technician, and where I am it was about $200.
How did I get to be an author?
Honestly, just put yourself out there! If it's something you're really passionate about, put it out there for people to read! Make an instagram or other social media to advertise your work, and really connect with the people that read your work. You're not going to get a publishing offer right away, it may take a while. For me it took around 4 years. Keep a schedule, connect with your readers, and be patient!
