prompt: A dusty wind blows across your face as you shield yourself from the blindingly bright sun. Sweat has already begun dripping down your back. You're in the desert. Who even convinced you to come out to this desolate wasteland?

A bouncing green Kalon bounds up to you. Ah, yes. This is who. "Welcome, welcome! I'm so glad you made it. How was the trip? Did you enjoy the scenery?"

You bite back a retort of "what scenery" - as soon as you left the city, there was nothing but empty plains and dead grass swaying in the wind - for miles... and miles... and miles...

The Kalon doesn't wait for an answer, instead prattling on without a thought. "I'm Mallory, it's so nice to meet you! Anyways, I'm sure you're very curious about my growing operation!" You nod. "That's great, I'll give you the grand tour!"

You follow Mallory as he babbles on, pointing out local "landmarks". A rock vaguely shaped like a potato (aren't all rocks potato-shaped?), a dead, splintered tree that'd been struck by lightning, the scrubby grass that you're walking over. His enthusiasm is endless, if a bit exhausting, but it still feels like coming upon an oasis in the middle of the desert.

And when you come to his "operation", the oasis metaphor feels a lot more apt. Next to a rickety wooden house are few seemingly endless fields of green and a couple of huge greenhouses. Mallory grins at your shell-shocked expression.

"Everyone looks like that at first! But I have to make sure to produce enough, well, produce to feed the nearby village. And myself, of course. And trust me when I say that my fruits and veggies are the best," he says with a wink.

You voice your skepticism that anything grown in the middle of the desert would be particularly... tasty. But Mallory pulls you over to the first of his fields, and you can't help but stare at the sights in front of you. Corn, tall and healthy, swaying in the wind, ears just beginning to ripen. Watermelon vines like a lumpy green carpet, melons scattered here and there like gigantic marbles. It's a veritable farmer's paradise out here, and in the most unlikely of places.

"How do you do it?" you ask, and Mallory waggles his eyebrows mischievously.

"Well, lots of love and tender care, and a little bit of..." he wiggles his fingers, and the plants all sway towards him in unison. "Magic."

Ahh, a plant mage. That would explain a lot of things. As you follow Mallory around his farm and take in the sights, you find yourself enchanted by just how excited he is. By the end of the tour you're gorging yourself on some gorgeously delicious out-of-season strawberries, sitting side by side with Mallory and gazing over his fields.

"So do you get it?" he asks, and you nod. Out here in the hot wind, the leaves whispering around you like friends, you do get it.

Catti works with my other kalon Aurelia!
Aurelia uses the power of alchemy to create plants and hybrids of different plant species, selling her finest creations in her shop.
Catti and Aurelia met a few summers ago. Catti was born here in this desert on a foreign planet, and Aurelia was visiting to find a rare species of cacti. Catti is a line of cacti-looking kalon who evolved to look more and more like their surroundings. On this planet, all kalons follow this rule depending on where they live, which makes everyone unique and a little different.

It was on a cool night when Aurelia was walking around. It was too hot for her to walk around in the daytime, so she took this opportunity to scour the bush for her prize find, the teacup cactus. She begins walking towards the rising moon, and to her surprise, she sees two of the elusive teacup cacti on the ground near a bush. Excitedly she runs over to it, and tries to dig it out of the ground. However, as she begins her excavation, she hears an "ouch!" and steps back. Out of nowhere, a kalon unravels itself from the bush- no, it was the bush!

"I'm so sorry! I thought you- your horns were a teacup cactus." Aurelia exclaims in an apologetic tone.
"Ah, it's alright! It happens, heh." Catti says as she shakes the dirt off of her fur. "Wait, who are you? You don't look like you're from around here."
Aurelia nervously chuckles. "Oh, I'm just an alchemist from your neighboring planet, here to collect a teacup cactus sample. DO you know where I can find some?" she inquires.
"Oh, those? Yea! We've got plenty." Catti says eagerly, beginning to bounce away. "Follow me!"

Catti leads Aurelia across the moonlit desert for what seems like hours. At first Aurelia thinks, I hope she actually knows where these can be found...

"Ok!" Catti says as she abruptly stops by a pit in the ground. "Here we are, they're just in this cavern!" Catti says while she jumps in headfirst into the cavern. Aurelia has her doubts, but she follows suit. In the cavern she hears a small stream and it opens up to a large cave with a hole in the top, letting the soft moonlight into the cave. At the bottom lay hundreds of teacup cacti. Catti takes one from the ground and hands it to Aurelia.

"There you are. I'm a cactus enthusiast myself, and I know about thousands of species and subspecies of 'em. It's my passion!" She tells her. Aurelia looks at her. Wow, I underestimated her. "Hey, how's about you join me on my journey? I'm trying to find all sorts of rare plants and then take them back to my home."

Catti began to get teary-eyed. "I'd love to! I've never had a friend before." she says with delight.

Aurelia chuckles. "Well then, let's get to it!"

He once was a collage student, wanting to teach others and educate them as well as pass on his knowledge to the next generation. He majored in teaching, and was offered a job of being a math teacher. He graciously accepted, as this job he felt was perfect for him, as it is a job he enjoys and he gets to spread that joy onto the next generation.

His passion for teaching spurs him on in life, hoping that he can teach as many people who enjoy learning as much as he enjoys teaching in his lifetime. He loves how kids make him laugh, and he hopes he can give children a joyful and positive learning experience and help them love learning and all the wonders that come with learning.

Sabro held the letter tightly, brows furrowed and a hint of anger in his eyes. Yet again, yet again he received another letter from his family, every time he would be full of hope, though the hope cut slimmer and slimmer he still wanted to read those words, words of praise, words of your doing a good job son, but every time he'd be left with disappointment. This time though he couldn't contain his rage the last sliver of hope was snuffed out and all that was left was disappointment and anger. Grasped the letter tightly between his rough, scarred fingerprints he read again.

Dear son, it's about time you end this foolishness and come home. We are worried sick, your brother has become more ill and we need you to take his place for the foreseeable future while he recuperates. He is your twin and has always been more skilled so this is the least you could do. I mean look at yourself, isn't your work hard? Isn't it tiring? Wouldn't it be better for you to just have a peaceful life with everything taken care of for you? Why do you need to do such hard work? Such a silly boy you are. Anyway, we await your return, and good riddance of that job you have. From, your dearest mother and father.

A chuckle escaped Sabros like a mocking smile in his eyes. His parents could care less about him, the imperfect twin, they merely wanted him for their facade while his brother recovers then he'll be sent away to live a life of no hardship. He didn't want that. Perhaps it was stubbornness to prove he could do things, he could work hard, or perhaps the sense of accomplishment when he did something well. He craved to break free of his old identity and live the life he wanted, hence why as soon as he had saved enough money he left for the countryside to fulfill his dream of working hard for every aspect in his life.

A farmer, he was a proud hard working farmer. Getting up at the crack of dawn, caring for the animals, plowing the crops, living off the land, he enjoyed this challenging but fulfilling job… if you could even call a dream a job. He simply enjoyed it too much for it to be called a job. His once smooth hands were now rough and cut, his pale complexion now tanned and bright, and he himself felt as though nothing could bring him down while he was working hard. he did miss his family for moments but no longer held out hope, they did not respect his life, his job, his way of living, so there was no reason to respect him. So like that he grabbed the letter and threw it into the fire before going to sleep ahead of another long day.
