Prompt: "You know ducks are supposed to be able to swim, right?"
Lilypad turned to glare at the amused expression behind her. But Flywind was unphased, and he only grinned wider at her annoyance.
“Well, it’s true.” He dipped his tail into the river, splashing water droplets over her pelt. She hissed, scrambling away from the lake’s edge.
“What are you even doing here?” She snapped, shaking what little water clung to her pelt.
“I could ask you the same thing.”
Lilypad wrinkled her nose. It was a fair question, honestly. Everyone knew she usually avoided water like a plague - which wouldn’t really be significant in of itself; plenty of cats disliked the water. It was just that her morph was… a
duck. Which was hilarious to everyone, apparently. The duck afraid of water.
But it was exactly why she was here today, staring down at her own reflection for about three cycles of turning into a duck and back. Embarrassingly, Flywind splashing her fur was the closest she’d gotten to actually touching the water.
Still, none of this was any of his business.
“Just get out of here, would you?” She flicked him with her own tail, stiffly stalking back to the water’s edge to continue staring at herself, probably until it got dark out. Maybe she’d come try again tomorrow. Maybe she’d never try again at all. Who said ducks needed to swim, anyway? She’d been plenty useful to the Clan until now without it, just flying around, collecting all of those-
“HEY!”
Flywind laughed, standing above where he’d shoved her into the lake.
She flailed wildly for a moment, splashing around and (hopefully) soaking the other cat. She was going to
kill him when she got out of here, he knew that she couldn’t…
Lilypad glanced down at her paws, paddling in the shallow water of the lake’s edge.
“Well, now, looks like you’re
fine in the water. Just like I've always said.” Lilypad didn’t think he’d wiped that grin off his face since he’d showed up here.
“Looks like you owe me a thank you.” He offered a paw, which was soaking wet, to her slight enjoyment, in a bid to help her out of the water.
She took it.
…
But she was still going to claw his stupid face off for that.
